Who: Teague Brennan and Dean Winchester
What: Manly things like hunting ghosts.
Where: Some abandoned burned out shell of a boarding school, Northern Ireland

Maybe it was just a change of pace that made Teague think about going off on one of Dean's misadventures. He was unloading his truck at the site, which was a large brick building in the country. In previous years, the building had probably been picturesque, with well trimmed shrubbery and a well maintained drive. After decades of abandonment, decay and a fire, the place was just as spooky in its aesthetic as the stories would have led him to believe. In the sunset, it was practically overwhelmingly terrifying from the outside. He pulled out the equipment that Dean set in it as he shook his head. He knew what it all did, but he was still anxious. He wasn't a skeptic, but he figured he'd live and let... be dead. Ghosts weren't on Teague's book of potential buddies, or things he could help.

"Dean, man, when we're in there and I start freaking the hell out, you are not allowed to tell me it's cool. This is not cool. Sure, all the drama at home's not all that great either, but... seriously. You know this place is haunted. Why go somewhere you know is haunted?" Teague had heard the stories, too. The school got burned thirty years ago by a disgruntled music teacher, who had killed three of the kids prior to taking his own life. Luckily, all the other children were saved and only suffered minor harm. Those children were alive and grown now, and apparently, from what Dean had found out by talking to a few of them, the few brave people who had investigated the boarding school had been harmed by by an unseen presence. It was said to be the most haunted building in all of Northern Ireland, outside of a few buildings in Glasgow.

He picked up a video camera and raised a brow. "Documenting this? What are we, the guys on the Travel channel?"

"It's obviously not cool, dude, that's why we're taking care of it." Dean was busy checking all the guns to make sure they were loaded with rock salt. He knew off of the top of his head what was in his duffel, and since that was always on his person - and none of his grown kids would ever fuck with the contents - that didn't need to be given a once over.

Pulling out his sawed off, he grinned at Teague, chuckling at the camera. "It's actually to see if we can pick up any activity, my kids have been bugging me to get with the times or some crap. I don't see what it can pick up that my EMF can't, but hey, I'll humor them. And hell no, we're not Scooby Douche and his gang. Though if we were, you're Shaggy, and I'm the dude humping Daphne. I don't do cravats."

"Hell yes, I'm Shaggy, I'd rather be the guy with the dog than be the dude who constantly tells the gang to split up, thus causing even more problems. And last I checked, you don't hunt Old Man Withers, the gardener. You're in for the real deal." He tied his hair into a ponytail and secured his hat more firmly into place. "It's an infrared camera, apparently." He said as he turned the thing on, looking through the viewfinder. "And I suppose that explains the digital recorder, the whole getting with the times thing. Still, I don't see how this shit will help us see a ghost." He shrugged and held the camera, turning it off for the time being.

"After you, fearless leader." He chided, waiting for Dean to lead the way into the building. The sun had drifted down beyond the horizon, and he knew this was likely to be an all-night thing.

"Let Chris Hansen pick up Old Man Withers, I'll deal with the dead shit." Dean grinned and waggled his eyebrows, situating the shotgun over one shoulder.

At Teague's question held aloft the EMF reader. It was the same one Sam had mocked long ago, his Old Faithful. "Ghosts don't operate on the same plane as us, so they don't make the same sounds as us. EMF readers pick up on that, those things are supposed to too."

When they arrived at the front door, he wasn't surprised to find it padlocked. He crouched down and pulled a lockpick kit out of his duffel, taking two lengths of metal and making quick work of the heavy metal chain. "Ta-dah."

"And why would you bring along a shotgun, anyway?" Asked Teague, sincerely curious. "Aren't ghosts kind of, well, like you said, a different plane? where they're all see through and junk?" He shifted his weight to one foot as he waited for Dean to open the door, before nodding and stepping in.

Inside, it was like the boarding school from Hell. The place still had the stink of a fire inside it, and the wallpaper and the paint were chipping and peeling off the walls. Paper was strewn about, and the furniture that had once likely been plush and comfortable in the foyer was dusty, and smelled like mildew. The floors, however, seemed stable enough, and that was a welcome surprise for Teague. He put a matchbook against the latch of the door before closing it (He'd sneaked into his fair share of abandoned houses before) and made sure it didn't latch before looking up the stairs, and then down the long corridor which led to the boarding rooms. "What did the people say about the kids and guy that died here again?"

"Same reason there's a couple of bags of rock salt in my bag. Something something purification, ghosts can't stand it. Basically, this is like mace for ghosts. And trust me, you'll be able to see 'em."

He got his bearings, looking around and sniffing the air. "Little bit of a fixerupper, huh." He grinned and powered up the EMF reader, moving it in front of him and walking to where it seemed louder. "Oh, not much, your typical music teacher going nuts after hearing one too many wrong notes. Killed some kids, did the suicide gig. Whole lot of bad blood, and that's where you get the violent ghosts." He turned to Teague, voice more serious. "Speaking of. Shit gets too hairy - and I don't think it will - you take that bag of salt in my duffel, you make a circle around you, and you do not move until sunrise. Got it?"

"Don't need to tell me twice, chief." Teague followed quietly behind, turning the video camera back on. The light was waning and the shadows grew longer and darker in the hallway as they walked down it. Teague walked as he watched through the viewfinder of the camera, navigating smoothly around an errant wooden chair. "Sounds like fun story. I ever tell you how much I don't like boarding schools? It's like prison for kids." He peeked inside a doorway, noticing that a bed frame and desk were still in the room. He felt a little shiver go up his spine as he noticed a decomposing teddy bear set at the corner of the room.

At a loud wail from the EMF reader, Dean held a hand up to Teague, motioning for him to follow close. He could feel a telltale chill to the room, and he licked his lower lip, looking up and around for anything in the room. Pausing, he took an iron poker out of his duffel and handed it to Teague. "Maybe you'll get a gun next time, Sparky."

Then he heard a quiet scuffling noise in the corner of the room. He cocked his head, holding his breath. By his estimation, it was too loud to be a rat.

Teague held the poker and looked at it with tight lips and a furrowed brow. "Golly, thanks." He hushed, however, when he heard the sound, and although he figured it to be just an animal, he wasn't taking any chances. He turned to look in the corner, and looked into the view. "Nothin'," He whispered, though he did get to see what dust looked like under the glow of infrared.

"Sounded like it was right there though." He shook his head, and tried to write it off. However, Teague noticed when the light on the digital recorder came on when neither of them were speaking or making noise. It was voice activated. He held it up to Dean with one brow raised. "Want me to play it back?" However, there was no chance for Dean to respond, because there was a louder, more brash thumping that came from a few rooms down the hall.

He'd been about to explain how ghosts hated iron, too, when they both stopped to hear a bit better. He turned his head to the thumps down the hall, furrowing his brow. "Yeah. Let's hear what you picked up before we move onto whatever's throwing a tantrum down the hall. And I didn't give you a pussy weapon, don't worry, ghosts don't like iron, either. I've just gotten shot with rock salt before, and yeah, it does sting." He winked at Teague, deflecting stress with humor as usual. "Fire up the ... thing. Whatever. I'm glad I've got you here to be my Sulu."

"The thing's about right," laughed Teague, "Man, you're more technologically savvy than me, I'm stuck in the damn 80s." He pressed playback and it played back what Teague said, and then a moment of silence before a faint sound of piano that sounded far away and a very nearby sound, like the tapping and scraping sound of chalk on a small, practice chalkboard. "That's... pretty distinct, I know that sound." He shook his head. "When I was little, my sisters had this little chalkboard they had for their dolls so they could play schoolhouse, it was about a foot square, and sounded just like that." He scratched his head and stepped out of the way of the doorway so Dean could lead the way again.

Dean blinked. "Huh. I wonder." He aimed his mag light around the room, looking for a chalkboard, any sort of lead. He was flying blinder than he wanted; he didn't know why the place had been burned, why the kids had been killed to begin with. "You see chalkboards in here?"

"Nothing in here, no. Just the creepy dead teddy bear," he pointed to it with the toe of his cowboy boot. "I dunno, maybe your EMF thing picked up a spirit on the move. The cuuurse of the flying chalkboard~," he teased, before stepping out into the hall. Another sound came from the room a few doors down again and he sighed, looking down the hallway and startled, jumping back a little, with a gasp of "Shit!"

"Something just went back into the main room thing," He muttered, pointing that direction. "Foyer."

Dean chuckled, shaking his head. "Just guessing, but they don't appreciate us busting into their house." He nodded, moving toward the foyer area, training his light around the room. A piano was in the corner, and dean winced when the EMF reader squealed loudly. "Somebody's pissed that it's out of tune." He continued to train the light around the room, going in the same methodical formation he'd always used.

When he heard a door slam, he moved the light quickly to a cupboard. There were smears in the thick layer of dust that looked too much like fingerprints to be anything but.

"Fresh handprints," noted Teague out loud, still looking through the camera's viewfinder, following Dean's motions with the flashlight. "Hang on, check this out," He murmured, nudging Dean to look at the viewfinder. He could clearly see a mist coming out of the cupboard, before it slid down and out, and made like a bat out of hell up the stairs.

"I'm guessing that's not atmospheric."

"Nah, not so much dry ice in here." He moved forward to open up the cabinet, handing over the flashlight to Teague for a moment, just in case there was something inside.

There wasn't; it was empty, but Dean stood up and cocked his head. "If I was a kid, I'd have hid there. I used to hide in closets when I was two or three, so Dad said." He blinked. "I think maybe it's scared." He cleared his throat. "Hey, kiddo? We're not mean, promise, we just sort of wanted to check in on you." ... hey, if it worked, he wouldn't look stupid.

"Yeah, I used to hide in the pantry, sometimes in the linen closet. It's a going back to the womb thing," Teague nodded, "small, closed, safe. Cassie hides under the sink sometimes even now..." He listened after Dean called up the stairs, and he peeked up them with the camera, before looking up with his own eyes. "You don't have to be scared of us, we're here to help out. Why don't you come down and talk, huh? We've got a little thingy here that can hear you." He paused and set the digital recorder down and turned it on to record at the sound of a voice. "See that little red light? Can you talk to it? Were you the one making the sounds in that bedroom?"

Waiting for a moment, they caught another sound that wasn't made by either of them. He played it back and it was another chalkboard sound. "Okay, that's something at least."

He shook his head. "Maybe that's all he can do." He looked around for the chalkboard, then blinked, wondering if maybe it was on the ground, or the wall. "Look around for anything chalk... y." He sighed and chuckled a little. "Glamorous job, huh."

"Beats cleaning out port-a-potties." He looked around and shook his head, "Don't see anything, skip. Hey there kiddo?" He looked in the general direction of the staircase. "Let's play a game. We'll clean up after you so you don't get in trouble, but right now, it's perfectly okay to write on the walls. So take your chalk and write something, anything, on the wall. I promise we won't tell." He raised a brow and looked over at Dean with a shrug of one shoulder.

Maybe the chalkboard was incorporeal, just like the kid. Soon, an entirely different sound came from about halfway up the stairs, against the wall. It sounded like the ghost took his advice. He bounded up the stairs and took out a pocket flashlight and held it in his mouth to see what was written.

"Ih fayf 'fif'aw'," Teague eloquently explained, pointing to the wall. It read 'sister', in a childish scrawl.

"Spoken like a true dad." Dean grinned at Teague and shook his head a little, blinking and grinning when it paid off. He chased after Teague, quick to stay behind his friend to make sure his friend remained safe. "Sister. Your sister, kiddo? Whose sister? I know it hurts like heck, but anything else you can give us." He looked around for any journals or newspapers or books, anything that might have some sort of information that was more specific.

Teague got goosebumps when he felt something chilly and almost holding a static charge moved closer to him. He gave it some room and there were a few more scribbles on the wall, just tiny scratches of chalk, before another word appeared out of thin air. "Oi!" called Teague, still around the butt of the flashlight. "Dee! Mo' werfs." He pulled the flashlight out of his mouth, "Augh, tastes like ear wax. Says 'Andrew', but now the cold spot is gone. Sister and Andrew. I doubt that the kid's sister had a boy's name, but definitely something going on with that. Hey, kiddo? If you're still around, just hang on, we're going to help you. You just rest for a while and thanks." He scrubbed the chalk off the wall with the arm of his jacket(just to keep his word to the ghost, figuring it's better safe than sorry to do so), before standing back up. "Let's go up here." He said, nodding up to the second floor.

"Thanks, kiddo," Dean murmured. He looked at Teague. "This is gonna sound - look, if you see any remains, you tell me, 'kay?" He hoped that wouldn't freak Teague out too much, and hoped he'd be okay with it.

He moved up the stairs, letting Teague work the light for the time being. He used his ears more, trying to sense the cold again. He hadn't been on a hunt in a long time with someone who wasn't a member of his family, and it reminded him that what scared him and got his blood pumping was completely different from what most people would consider normal.

Teague nodded. He wasn't scared about finding bones or anything like that. Even if they were human bones, even if they were the bones of a child, it would be more tragic to him than scary. He already knew three kids had died here, and that made him more sad and willing to help than it made him frightened. Children were innocent. And the first ghost seemed willing to help.

He hefted the camera onto one shoulder and carried the light with his other hand, sweeping it into the most area he could, and he waited for Dean to stop him. There was a sound after a few minutes, just a faint sound, but it made Teague stop in his tracks. It was the sound of a girl's laughter and dress shoes hastily running into one of the classrooms up ahead.

Girl ghosts - especially young ones - were always the creepiest. Dean didn't know why, but it was just one of those facts of life, like buying a girl flowers once a month was a good idea because dudes were bound to Fuck Up. CYA.

Which was what he was doing when he cocked the shotgun, still leaving it on his shoulder, moving forward in front of Teague. His ears had heard right, and he turned into that room, toeing the door open and looking around. "Sweetheart? Andrew said you were up here. You okay, honey?"

Teague kept quiet as he peeked around Dean's shoulder with the camera. He could see the cracked and broken mirrors and ballet bar around the room, and the large, floor-to-ceiling windows that let natural light in. He wondered if that was to account for the ridiculous chill in the room, or the fact that they knew the ghost was in there. "Your brother is worried. Can you talk to us? We're not here to hurt you, we're here to help. We need you to do us a big favor and let us know you're here. Make a sound?" He waited for something to happen, and something did. The camera didn't pick it up but he could see it plainly on his own. There was an outline of a girl - somewhere into adolescence, by the height of her - tiptoeing around the room before twirling. He could hear her humming. She then turned to them and bowed like she'd just been in a performance and giggled again before waving. Just the outline, like a shadow without the dark filling, nothing more.

Dean shivered a little bit and shook his head. This was not obviously his favorite part of this trip. He looked around the room, finding a stack of papers and sorting through them. Sheet music, by the looks of it, and he kept rifling through the desk he'd found to see if there was anything of use. "At least she's not pissed off."
