She noticed and wasn't surprised at Jane's reaction, and was thankful that she couldn't see the other rooms where some soldiers were being held-soldiers that had literally left bits and parts of them back at the base.
The whole putting things in perspective, it only helped so much. Then when she finally had Danny in her arms, it took every ounce of discipline Sonya had to not start bawling right then and there. Being the sensitive 'little guy' that he was, Danny seemed to get the idea and gripped the fabric of her t-shirt.
"Mama here mama here..." Of course, he said 'hewe' not 'here, but it wasn't hard to understand him. Sonya herself was torn between not wanting to let him go (not that she could with his 11 month old death grip) and not wanting to put pressure on any sore spots.
"You've gotten bigger since I last saw you." She looked up at Jane. "You've no idea how much this means." Well, maybe she did, but the thought was the same.
Alice pulled up a box of tissues. She only knew Jane for a short while, but the woman was supposedly a friend of mama's and Alice didn't pick up anything to the contrary-she just didn't like seeing Sonya on the verge of an emotional wreck. It was more upsetting than seeing her wounded, because she knew that Sonya could handle such injuries.
