Who: Open to anyone attending Homecoming.
What: Taunton Homecoming Dance
Warning: Explosions!

The gym had been decorated with streamers and banners. There was punch in the corner, and kids were dancing to songs that grownups had decided were popular. It looked just like a typical dance from any high school movie. The faculty must have done their research via Netflix.

It was Taunton's first Homecoming Dance. One of the women on the party planning committee was from America, and since Taunton had quite a few American students, they'd decided it would be a fun event. With the recent loss of the headmistress, they thought everyone could use something to cheer them up. They'd gone all-out, even holding elections for Homecoming King and Queen.

Sam had just "broken up" with Candy yesterday, but he'd told her he still wanted to take her to the dance, if she wanted to go. She was his best friend, and that wasn't going to change. Neither of them had another date, and he'd already bought the tickets, so they might as well go together.

Candy was wearing a blue dress that had shimmery golden threads woven in, so much that she looked like she was wearing water. She stood by Sam, making sure not to hold his hand, chuckling a little bit at her circumstance. "We could still go home, you know."

"Only if you're miserable," he said. "I've actually never been to one of these." He was kind of looking forward to it, and even though the situation was unusual, he didn't feel that awkward. "You look really nice," he said, knocking his knuckles lightly against the back of her hand in a 'loosen up' gesture.

"I'm not miserable, and neither have I, actually." She shrugged and tucked her hair behind her ears. "Thanks. You do too, you know."

He smiled. "Good." He wasn't really sure how comfortable she was with him. He wanted everything to be back to normal, and she kept saying that she was okay, but he didn't know for sure. It had been just flipping a switch for him, but Candy hadn't been brainwashed like him.

"Do you wanna dance?"

"Do you know how? I don't, so you'll have to help." She smiled and stretched out a little bit, sighing and looking at her feet. Things really weren't awkward for her toward Sam. Things had just reminded her of how much she missed Onyxx. She looked over at Sam and took his hand, leading him toward where a few other people were sort of moving in a way that might have been dancing. She was mostly guessing.

Sam chuckled. "I had a hard time just walking for the past eight years. Somehow, I never learned to tango." He walked out to the dance floor with Candy. "I think we can probably manage, though." It's not like the other kids were pulling Michael Jackson worthy moves.

Sam put his hands on Candy's hips like the other guys and their girls.

Reggie glanced at her watch. There was still plenty of time, but she was pretty nervous. She couldn't believe someone was going to die at the freaking homecoming dance. She smoothed out the ridiculous green taffeta that Didi had helped her pick out. She felt pretty awkward dressed up like this.

She craned her head, looking around for K. Holtz. Kyle was one of the guys in her chemistry class. She didn't really know him very well, and she was probably lucky that she at least had an idea of who to look for. There were a lot of people here, and she'd be pretty lost if she didn't recognize the name.

David could tell Reggie was fidgeting about something. He assumed it had something to do with crowds, which was exactly what was making him currently a bit twitchy. But it helped that he clearly wasn't the only one who was tense. In fact looking around at the other kids, human and freak alike all seemed similarly awkward. He had the psychological leftovers of his former rat-body imprisonment as an excuse and the paranoia of constantly feeling like he was on the run. And Reggie, well she'd just been dead and given a new body; she'd have her reasons. But these kids? They were just pathetic. This space was a large and enclosed stew of unfiltered teen angst and hormones. He shrugged off some of the anxiety and relaxed into comfortable smirking superiority. It was just a stupid dance, with stupid music and he refused to be affected by any of it.

He slipped his arm around Reggie's waist possessively. "You're beautiful, you know. This place would suck without you."

"Huh?" She hadn't really been focusing on David, too worried about finding Kyle. She turned back to David, wrapping an arm around his shoulder and leaning against him. "Yeah, you're right. About the sucking, I mean." She hadn't really gotten used to the idea of looking different than she had her entire life, and being called beautiful was still kind of weird.

She didn't have the same feeling of superiority that David did. Being dead should probably lower your social status. She tried not to pay much attention to all that. She should probably be worrying about stuff that was bigger than high school, but that was easier said than done.

She brought a date on her first reap. At least Didi had given her the okay. Where the hell was Kyle?

He chuckled and gave the top of her head a kiss. "Distracted much?"

The new body thing was kind of weird to him too. If it hadn't been Reggie's mannerisms and Reggie's speech patterns, he wouldn't have bought it at all, and probably would have been in jail for doing something stupid out of his grief instead of at a school dance. But he made an effort to not seem like it was that weird to him, because if it was weird to him, it would make it all even weirder between the two of them.

"Sorry." She leaned up to give him a quick peck on the lips. "Just not used to these things. Maybe it was kind of a silly idea, but I thought it would be romantic, or something." She really did want it to be romantic. She wanted to have a fun time, and she was hoping for something to distract her from 'work'. But she practically felt sick to her stomach about the whole thing.

Then she spotted Kyle, over by the bathrooms. That was as good an excuse as any. "Hey, I'm gonna run to the bathroom. I'll be back." She leaned up to kiss him again.

He kissed her back and grinned. "Cool, I'm going to go find a place to have a smoke. Then we can start over on the whole romantic idea, okay? Maybe even dance or whatever." He was definitely going to need a cigarette if he was going to have to dance.

Iggy was there, just a little on edge, mostly because of the noise, made it hard to process where things were. Which was likely why he was very nearly standing in a corner with his back to the wall.

Granted, he wasn't easy to miss, given as how he was still a head taller than most of the students, and even backed against a wall the wingspan was impressive. He'd picked the spot mostly because he knew just how far it was to both the exit and the food from where he was.

Hope stuck close to Iggy, the back of her hand brushing against his so that he could use her as an 'anchor'. She wouldn't let him run into anything. She was keeping a close eye on the time. It was still early.

She was happy sticking to the side. She didn't really feel like being surrounded by her human classmates. She was still sore about the counter-petition that was raised against her. She couldn't believe how unfair it was. This world was full of all-human schools, but they wouldn't give her and her fellow superhumans one small refuge? The corners of her lips pulled down in a pout.

Iggy had actually agreed with the counter-petition, that separating 'normal' kids from everyone else would make it harder to integrate everyone as adults, and that leaving the school as it was made sense.

Iggy smiled, just slightly, catching Hope's wrist, sliding his hand down to weave their fingers, voice just loud enough to be heard over the background rabble, "We don't have to stay."

"No, it's okay," Hope said, shaking her head and squeezing Iggy's hand. "We should stay." She leaned in to kiss his cheek. "It could be fun. Do you want to dance?" She tugged lightly at his hand. The song had changed to something a little slower.

"I don't really know how." Was his only objection, and it wasn't much of one all in all, "But, um, if you want to?" He was fairly certain that he hadn't meant for that to sound like a question, it was just the crowd and the noise making him jumpy.

John Connor was sort of excited to be at Homecoming. He had never really been to a school long enough to make it that far, to actually go to a dance or party. His mom had usually pulled him out and they'd be off moving to another place all over again. But.. he had found out, to his surprise, that he was nominated for Homecoming King. He was curious about who picked him. Either had a fan somewhere or this was a social joke. He'd seen that happen in a couple teen movies before.

Granted, he was supposed to be a leader of sorts when he was older. But he chose not to think much on that stuff lately. Mostly because it was about a very depressing future where machines took over. This was going to be a fun night. He could feel it, as he saw the punch, saw everyone else here. Although.. him being elected king, it was a little awkward. He wasn't sure if he won it yet, but he was sure he'd find out very soon... but he'd try to enjoy it anyway.

Esk had been running around all day. She'd arrived at the gym early, and had been helping the dance committee set up decorations for the past few hours. Before that, she'd helped Rachel pick out a dress. Her own dress was long and pink. She didn't have a date tonight, so she'd mostly been going around chatting with friends.

She recognized John from one of her classes, and walked up to him. "Hi!" she said with a smile and a wave.

John imediately recognized her too. "Ohh.. hello there," he said with a nod as he walked closer to her. That was a really nice dress. He wondered briefly if she liked leather jackets.

"Having fun?" he asked, gesturing to the party. "Ohh, I also heard you were nominated for queen. Do you know who won the votes yet?"

She smiled brightly. "Yeah, this is great!" Her old school never had dances--mainly because she was the only girl and most of the other students were at least fifteen years older than her.

"Oh, yeah. A couple of my friends were nominated too." She shrugged. "I haven't heard yet. I think they're going to announce it soon." She stood on her tiptoes, scanning the crowd for her fellow cheerleaders. "I haven't seen Jade yet."

Tony Stonem came to the dance all dressed up nicely, clean clothes, slacks with a striped shirt. His hair was nicely done too. He'd been to parties before. Some were a bit tame compared to the kind he was used to... like with good-looking girls, loud music, and some good dope. Of course he had a feeling the school would frown on that if he brought anything like that in his first week here. It would most definitely not fly. But he was alright with that. It was best to get to know all angles of the school and everyone here before being that daring. And getting into trouble so soon wasn't in his plan.. least not right this second. Maybe later in a few hours or maybe a couple days, depending on the mood.

Well, he thought with a smirk as he walked into the gym, at least they had attractive people, from both sides. And he did like punch. And dancing, that was a plus. He grabbed a plastic cup of the drink himself, glancing around at the others here as he walked around the area, seeing what he could see.

Reggie thought she spotted Kyle in the corner. She told David that she needed to go to the bathroom and started in that direction. She slowed down as she got close to Kyle, feeling a little nervous. She knew she wasn't responsible for the guy dying, and she couldn't do anything to change it. Still, she couldn't help feeling weird about this.

"Hey," she ran a hand over the boy's arm, feeling a weird sensation when she touched him. "Kyle, right? Having fun?" She made a little smalltalk with him before excusing herself to the bathroom. She splashed cold water on her face, taking deep breaths and trying not to cry. She looked up at her new reflection. This was a crazy new life.

She came out of the bathroom and looked around for David. She had a hard time getting through the crowd, and bumped into Tony. "Oh, sorry. Lot of people."

Tony was enjoying himself so far. Lots of things to look at. Though it was probably good that there was no punch left in his cup, or he'd have made a mess when the girl bumped into him.

He just smiled, "No, that's okay. There's bound to be a crowd or two at a place like this. I'm Tony."

Reggie gave a nervous laugh. "Yeah, I guess I should've known that before I came. Mental note: school dance equals crowds." She glanced over her shoulder at Kyle, pretty unnerved by the whole thing. Nothing had happened yet, but she was still a little early. "Uh.." She realized she hadn't really introduced herself to anyone new since she died. Death hadn't said anything about needing to change her identity, and she didn't see why she'd need to lie to this random guy at the dance, so she just shrugged. "I'm, um, Reggie."
