Who: Henn & Brend
Where: Casa de los Wolfpack
When: Saturday when Cass & Soren were on their date
Warnings: Some cute, probably, maybe wholly blase discussions of humping

Henn had crashed out for an hour-long nap after she'd had copious amounts of growlysex with Cass. It had been a long week and she had finally been tired. Of course, once she'd slept she was fine again, if a little happy-overworked sore, she shuffled down the stairs in her PJs, actual PJs this time, since she didn't want to cause anybody any injuries, especially accidental ones.

She stretched as she meandered into the kitchen, Kitten draped over the back of her neck, chirping a contented sing-song.

She shrugged, chin resting atop his head, she was good for hugs, she liked hugs, mostly on account of she liked people in general, "I think it comes from when she was younger, wanting to get away from anything that reminded her of home, which she was also trying to get away from, rebellious teenage phase or something, I don't really know."

She nosewrinkled at the statement, "Ugh, yes, it is. And what I call gumbo is really just beefstock stew with some of whatever spices are on the top shelf, and some of whatever veggies are in the fridge, plus shrimp and sometimes sausage. In a crockpot, at least 24 hours." She smiled, "That's not one of the actual recipes I know, but if it counts, that means I know three actual recipes."

It sounded like something Miss Petit would do, and Brend nodded, smiling a little. "I don't think I had a rebellious teenage phase. Maybe it's why I'm liberal with sex, but that's really not that bad, especially since I'm safe about it. And of course that counts, but you have to let me make you some real stuff someday."

She rolled her eyes at that, deadpanning: "Oh no, I'm never going to let you cook me delicious gumbo never ever in a million zillion years."

She smiled then, kissing the top of his head before finally letting him go, "I'll let you help with the pretzel chicken, it's easy."

"Are we doing it now?" He blinked, watching her hop off of the counter. But then he figured, what the heck, why not? Chicken was always good.

She shrugged, "Sure, we've got everything for it, yoink me down the cast iron skillet with the highest sides, the one with the map on the bottom."

She was already rummaging through the pantry for the wheat pretzels and the jar of creole spice she'd made the last time.

He did as she was told, rolling up his sleeves, tying his hair back, washing his hands, and getting the spices settled in a way that both of them could use. Blinking, he realized he was doing mise-en-place at home, and stood back. "Sorry."

Henn laughed, flicking water at him after she'd washed her hands, drying them and tugging the fridge over to get out the milk and the eggs, "Three eggs, milk in the same volume as two of the yolks." She said handing them over, "I usually use the big measuring cup to whisk it all in, but if you prefer a bowl that's fine."

She shuffled around in the detritus on the counter, coming up with somebody's MP3 player and plugging it into the dock beside the toaster, just setting it to shuffle.

He used a bowl, not bothering to measure the ingredients. He could eyeball them well enough, and he started to whisk in no time, humming a little with the music. He danced a little as he moved. "Seriously, this is just like work."

She laughed, sprinkling the pretzels out onto a baking sheet and crunching them with the bottom of a glass, "You don't have to help, I've made a batch myself in about ten minutes, plus cooking time."

She shrugged, "And once that's smoothed out, you can handle the chicken, strips or popcorns, up to you, I'll eat either."

"Strips are awesome. What kind of chicken did you get? It'll be nice not to take down a whole one." He chuckled, rummaging around in the fridge for the food.

"I always get boneless breasts." She said, "Makes everything easier." She blinked then, "And did that sound as dirty as I think it did? My radar's completely off lately."

"Just a little!" He grinned and found the chicken, shrugging and opening the package. "I get them delivered with the feathers still on, talk about a pain in the ass."

She blinked, then again, then shook her head, "Nope, couldn't do it. Love my goosedown comforter, but I couldn't pluck anything myself, hell, I don't even pluck my eyebrows."

"It's not so bad," he murmured, busy stripping the chicken down into bite size bits, efficiently, and almost eerily quickly.

Henn tossed some cornmeal in with the pretzel crumbs, and then the cajun spice, stirring everything by hand, humming along, "It's one of those things that I don't think I'll ever do except by necessity."

"If it comes to that, won't you be glad to have me around?" He grinned and shook his head, handing her a plate of chicken to coat as she liked.

She grinned, "Well next time the universe goes wonky and we end up being amish, yes, I'll be glad of that."

It had been a while since she'd done this, but muscle memory was one of those things that was there for a reason, and it was only a minute before she had the pan filled with the first half of the batch.

"Amish life would be hard, but we'd be okay. I can chrun butter and everything." He watched her, sitting down and sharpening their butcher knives. They needed it.

She smiled, shaking her head, "Poor Cass wouldn't be able to go anywhere, scared of horses." She paused then, nose wrinkling, "I probably wasn't supposed to mention that."

"It's sort of adorable, really." Brend shrugged. "I'm his brother, I don't think he'll mind too much."

She nodded, "I understand the logic of it, I mean, they're big, and they can be pretty dangerous, and I'm scared of clowns for chrissakes, which doesn't make any sense at all, but there you have it."

She shrugged, turning the chicken strips over and going to get a cooling rack and the paper towels.

"But lots of people are scared of clowns. I don't think fears are supposed to make sense." He returned the sharpened knives to the butcher block, sprawling out on the kitchen floor.

She nodded, "I think everyone's got at least one irrational fear, the one where they can't explain it, and know it's silly, but they're afraid of it anyway."

"Parrots. Just the pet kind. I read somewhere they can bite fingers off, and yeah, I need all of mine." He shrugged. "They're cute, I don't deny that, but I sort of don't want to incur injury."

She nodded, "Something-hundred pounds of pressure behind that thing, I totally understand that one too." She shrugged, "And I don't mind evil clowns, like, Killer Klowns from Outer Space? Those are clowns in their natural state, it's the happy clowns that scare the fuck out of me."

She pulled the first batch out of the pan, replacing it with the second batch moments later while she talked.
