Who: Brendann Brennan and Rob Fellows
Where: Brend's restaurant in London
What: Uh... dinner and stuff?
When: Now-ish
Warnings: in theory.

Rob had decided that it had been far too long since he'd had a night out with nothing planned, he'd decided also that London was the least likely place that anyone looking for him, a misplaced automobile mogul, would find him.

Of course, after playing tourist for a good portion of the afternoon and evening, he decided that it was time for dinner, bidding his collection of hangers-on good evening, smiling faintly to himself and shaking his head as he headed up the street, tugging his jacket straight and just slipping into the nearest eatery.

He couldn't tell if the wait-staff knew who he was, or if it was just a case of 'hey, you look like a guy who did a thing' In any case, he was seated in a quiet corner, which he certainly didn't mind, nor did he mind the wine list that was handed over without being asked.

Brend had a sixth sense when it came to VIPs, and it had served him well in the past. He sent off a waiter with an amuse bouche and another one to wait for his wine list. Standing at the pass, he squinted out at the restaurant to watch the patrons, making sure that everyone looked happy. He saw the new arrival and made sure to memorize where he was to watch him later - for business purposes. The fact he was kind of cute made him straighten the black ribbon that held back his hair in a low ponytail.

On the rather long list of things Rob liked, good service was right near the top, he'd already decided that he liked this place and was planning on coming back sometime, perhaps with Tree in tow, though that might lead to trouble and perhaps an indecent exposure lawsuit. The thought made him smile to himself, shaking his head.

He decided on a Rosè, since it went with pretty much everything so far as he was concerned and 'surprise me' was all he said for an appetizer. He rather liked the way of the sushi chefs, where the highest compliment was to ask for what they thought you would like.

Brend rather liked the man's style as well, and sent him out a baked butternut squash soup with parmesean cream and some crispy rabbit. He hummed as he sent it out, smiling a little bit and wiping his palms on his apron. He figured he'd go out himself with the man's dessert.

Rob was the sort of person who could make a full-course meal last all night. Granted, he generally did that when he had company, just on his own he took his time, but didn't dawdle.

By the time dessert rolled around he'd finished the first bottle of wine and was well on his way to finishing a second and was no worse for wear because of it.

Ordering his sous chef to handle the expediting for the time being, Brend moved out to the VIP's table. He stopped off at his office to grab a bottle of port that went with the dessert he'd picked out. Setting it down in front of Rob, he couldn't help but smile.

"White chocolate and mascarpone tart, with a raspberry sorbet. This will go with it nicely, I think." He poured them each a glass of the wine after uncorking it expertly, sitting down and watching his guest as he took a sip.

His brow arched at that, just slightly, but he was smiling all the same, perfectly at ease, "You, sir, have excellent taste. I can already tell." His smile was crooked, amused and teasing, "I haven't gone and terrorized the staff too badly, have I? Should I try harder?"

"You think I have excellent taste because the bottle's new, but either way, you're right." He grinned a little bit, leaning back comfortably. Brend could be awkward at times, but his restaurant was his territory - he felt more comfortable there than anywhere else except maybe his own house. "They don't scare too easily, you're fine. Eat, that's better when it's cold."

"Well, there is that, but also because of the white chocolate and the raspberry, it's a combination that's far far too infrequently used. Neglected, even."

His smile was very nearly serene at the first bite, sighing contentedly and nodding, "Mmhmm. Exactly that."

Brend chuckled, sipping his own wine. "I'm glad you think so. I like it too." He grinned a little bit, shaking his head. "I'm glad you're having a good night. You should come back, I'll make sure I have a table for you."

His smile spread then, not so much serene as near-gleeful, "Well, with an invitation like that I'd be a damn fool not to come back. Though I think I may bring friends next time. I've at least two of those."

He offered a hand then, "Rob Fellows."

Taking his hand, Brend grinned. "Brendann Brennan. Nice to meet you, Mister Fellows." He took another sip of wine, content and happy. "And only two friends? I'm sure you have more."

He waved a hand airily, settling back in his seat and taking another sip of his wine, "Just Rob, really. And at least two. Three here, so far. It was the same back home, really." He said, brow creasing, he hadn't really thought of it that way before, and was already weighing which of the new friends was most like which of the old ones.

"But still, you'd think you'd have more than three friends, handsome guy like you." Brend shrugged. "Just an observation, but seriously, you'd think you'd have friends all over."

"Well, to be fair I haven't been here that long." A pause, "And one of the three is rather time consuming, in the best way." He already liked Tree, a lot.

There was also the fact that he didn't make a lot of friends only because he knew that he was going to outlive them. That, however, didn't bear mentioning just yet.

Brend chuckled. "You're like that, huh? I haven't been here that long either, and I don't have a girlfriend. But hey, you work fast, well done you!" He smirked and swirled the wine in his glass a little bit, inhaling deeply and purring. "Mmph, I am so glad I got a case of this."

He shook his head, "Wouldn't consider Triesta a girlfriend, she's a girl what's a friend and a whole lot of fun to boot, but she's certainly not a one-man woman, and I can hardly blame her."

There was another smile then, nodding as he took another small sip of the wine himself, savoring it, really, "I said you had good taste."

"Oh, one of those." He nodded a little bit. "I think I have a date with a woman like that, actually." He ducked his head a little bit, shrugging. "And I've slept a couple of times with this really cute guy, but yeah, I don't know." He hated his tendency to run his mouth to strangers. "Yeah, I have good taste for wine, I guess. I'm working on becoming a sommelier officially."

"I've always liked that word." He said, mulling it over for a moment, "And I'd blame it on the fairies, since they were always making up words like that, but they weren't winemakers as such. Wine-drinkers, certainly, but not really with the making."

"Blame it on the French, they made it up. They make up everything good, though." He smiled a little bit. "I'm glad I live here, though. If I lived in France, I'd be so spoiled."

He nodded solemnly, "That's what I said, the fairies." He managed to keep a straight face for a moment longer before the grin returned, laughing softly and shaking his head, "Honestly I don't know where the fairies finally settled down, though France seems as likely a place as any, if the cuisine is anything to go by, miniature portions and silly names."

"And pretty ladies." Brend chuckled and shook his head. "I will say this for France, they have a really high ratio of hot to not-so-hot."

He laughed warmly at that, nodding, "I like the way you think." He shrugged, "That and you've got a good eye, from what I can tell."

It was right about then that he noticed the purple in Brendann's hair, head tilting to make sure it wasn't a trick of the light, "The purple, is it natural?" He shook his head, "Seems like a silly thing to ask, but Triesta's hair changes color from time to time, of its own accord."

"I'm not blind," Brend smiled. "But thanks." He blinked when Rob noticed the streaks in his hair, untying it from its ponytail and running his fingers through it. "It's natural. My whole family has it, all the way back to my grandma." He smiled a little. "We grandkids just have streaks, my uncle's got bright red hair, and grandma was bright pink."

His brow creased slightly at that, "She wasn't one of the sprites, was she?" He shook his head, smiling faintly, "Haven't seen one of their ilk in quite some time."

"Nope, part puppet," Brend shrugged. It was a story he was used to telling. He drained the rest of his wine, twirling some of the purple hair around his finger.
