Who: Malakai Chmelyk, Levi Slates
What: A vampire and a shapeshifter walk into a bar...
When/Where: Backdated to the night Levi arrived, the Luxor, Vegas
Warnings: Drinking, vampirism possible. Not really.

Malakai wasn't quite sure what he was walking into, offering to help the new arrival in town, but then wasn't that what made it interesting? With things between him and Rurik still on uneven ground, and Gatlin seeming more distant than normal, he felt the need to... branch out. More than that, he needed to start making new 'friends', and keep himself fed. Live, so to speak.

Leaning against one of the pillars at the front of the building, Malakai scanned the crowd, looking for someone seeming lost. He sensed a bit of not-quite-humanity off to his side, and couldn't hide his shock when he noticed it seemed to be coming from the lost-looking man. He moved through the crowd toward the man, damning his new sense of modesty.

"Levi?" He called out, tongue sticking slightly on the 'v', foreign sounding without being too much of a foreigner.

Levi was well used to people mispronouncing his name, and often responded to anything resembling the vague sound of the L and the V together. He smiled a bit awkwardly at the man's approach. "Kai?" he questioned, though he thought it must be the man he'd met through the message board. He knew no one else in this town.

"Hi," he added with an offer of his hand. He wasn't able to pinpoint the sense that someone was not quite human, being newly turned and turned without the benefit of guidance from his maker. He shifted his feet, feeling something but unsure what, and unable to even associate it with Kai.

Kai looked down quizzically, but took the hand after a moment's thought. His skin was ice cold, a tell-tale mark of his race, but he figured the boy could sense him, as he sensed the difference about Levi. "Would you care to go inside for a drink, or-?" He wasn't sure if he boy had something against so many humans around, or if the draw of alcohol was enough to make him not mind it so much.

Levi nodded. He spared a glance at the people around them, but his attention was on the man offering to help him out. He paid the people little mind, and nodded again. "A drink would be fine."

He was sure he hadn't stolen anyone's wallet, but he found an unfamiliar billfold in his pocket while waiting for Kai. He didn't recognise the name on the ID, but there was a bot of cash on the back. He hated to use it, but he also wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

With a nod, he waved a hand towards the casino and headed for the door, staying just close enough to Levi to seem like he was leading him. Even after being in this universe for so long, it was hard for him to put much trust in shifters. That was no reason for him to break his word, though, so he led the man to the bar, thankfully rather empty, for the time of night. He took an open barstool, with one free beside it, and waved the bartender over.

"A glass of red wine, and whatever the other is having," He would cover Levi's tab for the night, while they discussed the world and its oddities. To make things a little easier to understand, and to prove he was trustworthy, for Invidia.

"Whiskey, straight," Levi said to the bartender, without meeting his eyes. He didn't know anything about Invidia or shape shifters, or anything else. He knew what he was, what they had made him. But he wouldn't divulge that information right away, if at all. He really didn't know what it meant.

Werewolves were thing of science fiction and horror movies. He'd never heard of weretigers before, and to be fair he hadn't actually changed yet. The full moon was still two weeks away.

"It's really nice of you, to do this. Help me out and all," Levi said to Kai after the drinks were delivered and his hands were wrapped around the glass.

"We are not all monsters, yes? I do not know where you are from, but I assure you, everything is peaceful here." A beat, "For the most part." He made a small face, taking the wine to take a drink as he thought about what to say next.

"You have heard the stories, yes? You have a new life here. A new name, a new identity. Your... family, is likely not here. They may fall in, as you did, but some do not. You should... prepare, for that."

"Good." He'd hate to have to kill his mother again, but he would. She was a monster. He hated her. He'd never hated anything so much as he hated her, and he'd had plenty of things to hate, in his life. "Better off without them."

He shook his head then, and drew the wallet out of his pocket. "Is that what this is? I thought. I didn't know where it came from."

Excuse Malakai's shock, at the vehement reaction to his mentioning his family would not be around. The lycans he had known from his previous home were extremely pack-minded. It was what made the mention somewhat hesitant, in the first place. "I. Well, alright, then..." He seemed a little confused, considering the 'man' until the question was asked of him. "Yes. That is you, now. The money as well," He added with a little smile. Most people were more reluctant than he to accept 'found' currency, but it was just a perk of the place.

"Good to know." Levi tucked the wallet back into his pocket, then took a sip of his drink. It burned deliciously down his throat. There were a couple of credit cards in the wallet too. Maybe he'd lucked out and fallen in to money. Wouldn't that be a nice change of pace?

"So I'm just. Here? I'm this guy now? His name, his home, his life?"

Malakai nodded. "If you wish to be. There is no set rule, saying you must do as he did, or live as he lived. But if you want it, it is there." The wine alone wasn't cutting it, and with a sigh he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small flask, unscrewing the cap and taking a long drink. The liquid he licked off his lips was thick, a red dark enough to be black, and probably had the unmistakable smell of blood. It wasn't real- at least not entirely- but he couldn't get it from the bar. Or, it seemed, from his friends. So he had to fend for himself. Again.

Levi took to looking around the bar, while Kai drank from his flask. He was fully aware of the motion, and assumed the contents of the drink were the real thing. He licked his lips, an almost primitive response, and his bright eyes turned to his host just as Kai's tongue darted out of his mouth and across his own lips.

If Kai looked closely, he might recognise the restlessness behind his eyes. "Most people don't bring their own drink, when they go out drinking." There was no accusation in his tone, it was merely a comment.

"I have, how you say... dietary restrictions? Liquid only. Very... specialized." He meant it as a joke, something like sarcasm in his tone; it wasn't like he was trying to hide what he was. Why tiptoe around the issue?

"Interesting liquid choice," Levi said, eyes burning now with interest. The smell of the blood, though perhaps undetectable to humans, was quite strong in Levi's nostrils. His tongue smoothed over his bottom lip.

Kai's eyes cut as he turned his full attention back to Levi, noticing the way he licked his lips. But he wasn't a vampire, his heart still beat. His head cocked to the side, skeptical confusion.

"You are not pretending, are you? I am not ashamed of being vampire. It is not as strange here, as it may have been in your world. You do not need to hide yourself,"

"You're a..." Levi nodded, and found his mouth uncooperative on the word. "A vampire," he managed with a little sigh. Well, that explained the odd feeling he'd felt, out on the street when Kai approached. It explained the blood.

"I..." he shook his head. He had never said the words out loud, about what he was. What they made him. He averted his eyes, took a drink, and eased the collar of his shirt down to show the bite at his shoulder joint.

Malakai nodded as the man repeated his words, watching him for his reaction. He seemed... shaken, but alright. Not running, at least- which was as much as he could ask, really. When he revealed the mark at his shoulder, Kai leaned forward just enough to try and make out the pattern.

"...Cat?" Obviously a big cat, but not dog, or bear, or anything else he'd seen. He wasn't good enough to be able to tell what type, without help. Once he saw what he could see, he sat back, not wanting him to feel threatened.

"Tiger," Levi confirmed with a nod. He smoothed his collar back down. "I." He shook his head. He glanced around them. There were plenty of people in the bar, but no one was paying any attention tot he two of them. "My...she bit me. Two weeks ago. I haven't..." His eyes closed, and the words fell to heavy silence. "I don't know what to do."

"Oh. I- I did not know. I am sorry," He frowned, taking one last drink from his flask before screwing the cap on, and slipping it back in his pocket. "I do not know of other tigers, here. But I know there were lycans, before. I'm certain one of them could help you, perhaps?" He would offer, but he wasn't sure that was too smart, if he really had no idea how to contain himself.

"Not exactly something I want to broadcast, you know?" Kai might have been fine with the fact he was a vampire, it seemed he'd been undead for a very long time. Levi was new to the whole thing, and drop kicked in to a whole new plane of existence.

Kai looked a little more surprised at that, but just shrugged. "Well, then, I- I mean, I am not... of your people, but I have known shifters, in my day. You should not be alone, your first moon,"

Kai smiled dryly. "He is far too used to my causes, to care. And I would not live with myself, if you went out and harmed someone when I could be taking care of you, yes? Yes. It will be fine." In truth, he'd never handled something as large as a tiger alone. But it couldn't be that much more difficult than a wolf, could it?

Levi nodded and fingered the rim of his glass. "All right then. If you're sure." It was kind of a relief to Levi. He had no idea what he was agreeing to, really, but Kai seemed nice enough and genuine. And Levi was pretty sure he was strong enough to take him on, if it came tot hat. He hoped it wouldn't. He wanted to believe in the goodness of the other man.

Vampire, he reminded himself. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea, after all, but he'd already agreed and he had no other viable option at the moment.

"I am sure," He reiterated, picking up his wine and taking a long drink. His thirst was growing, heightening his awareness of the slightly-quickened pulse of the man next to him. But he couldn't do that, not to a shifter. Some lycans were poisonous to vampires, some would rip your throat out for trying. No, he'd entertain the boy, and then find something... later.

Assuming he made it to 'later'.

"All right then." Levi nodded agian, as if securing a deal. He still felt some small measure of apprehension about the whole thing, be he saw that he had little choice. He'd simply make the most of it. And if it didn't work out, he'd move on. Or die, but there was no need to dwell on that. He might be better off dead, than turning into a tiger every full moon.

He scratched idly at his neck. It wasn't deliberate, and if he'd realised what he was doing, he would have sat on the urge.

Kai's eyes were immediately drawn to the scratching at Levi's neck, and he swallowed reflexively, fighting the urge to draw his fangs and just take. Was he really that hungry?

"Perhaps I should... go," He seemed on edge, standing to pull his wallet out and toss a few bills on the bartop.

The vampire managed a smile, pausing at the bartop to shake his head at Levi. "Do not worry, friend. I was... hungry, before I arrived. It is not your fault, nor is it something to concern yourself with," He wouldn't ask, he wouldn't take. It could wait until he found some nameless face on the street. He hoped.

Malakai shook his head again, sighing a light, unnecessary sigh. He really didn't need to smell all of the life in the room, but the human gesture was too ingrained in him, by now. "No. We do not have to kill to feed." Which wasn't to say he didn't, from time to time. But he wasn't at that point- no need to alarm the boy.

He went very still at the suggestion, eyes meeting the man's for a long moment. "I... couldn't ask that of you. I did not mean it that way, Levi," Despite his protests, his eyes shifted down to the hand at his neck, and he felt his jaw tighten.

Levi shook his head. Being bitten by a vampire couldn't be any worse than being bitten by a shape shifter. His entire life seemed surreal at this point, and he wasn't convinced that it wasn't all some sick, demented dream. Why not add to the crazy, and offer himself up as a bleeder.

"Maybe we should go somewhere a little less crowded?"

Malakai should have protested, should have just walked out, but he found himself reaching over to take the boy by the arm, leading him to the front desk. He asked for a room key, passing over a credit card and earning a card in exchange. Rather than give either of them time to think about it, they were off in the direction of the elevator, and the privacy the suite would afford them.

They could have gone to Kezia's room- he could have gone to Kezia, instead of the boy. The thought only hardened his resolve to do this, take from the shifter. Because he wouldn't go back to the bitch.

Once they were outside the door, he seemed to hesitate, leaning heavily against the hard wood. "I do not know, Levi... you should. Stay here, tonight. I cannot- it is not safe for you," He forced the last words out, hating himself for seeming so weak.

"You paid for the room, Kai," Levi protested. He was a proud man. He'd had a rough life, and he carried a long history of petty crimes including theft and taking advantage. he'd been hoping to get himself on a straighter path, before everything crashed down on him.

"And I offered." He added, tilting his head. It wasn't a subconscious baring of his neck. He wasn't sure really how he felt about the whole thing, but he'd gotten it in his mind to do this, and he was reluctant to take no for an answer.
