Who: Beecher and Melissa
What: Getting high, adjusting to the strange new world
When: Today, early morning, after leaving Chris high and dry in California
Warnings: Drug use, strong language- anything else, I'll let you know.

Toby had looked up where this portkey was supposed to be, having to haul himself there on foot; he hadn't driven anywhere, since the accident. He didn't want to start, just to leave the car abandoned while he went halfway around the world. Finally making his way to the portkey, he glanced down at it; an old beer bottle, of all things. Cautiously, he reached down to touch it, feeling the now-familiar lurch of the ground from under his feet. Managing to land on his feet this time, he stumbled to the nearest wall, leaning into it while looking around for this 'Melissa' he was supposed to meet.

Standing nearby was the not-so-tall blond, smoking a cigarette and shuffling a bit in the cold. Melissa wore jeans and high heeled boots (she had to get some height somehow) with a big coat, because it was cold and she was packing. Seeing the man looking around, she gave a smile and walked over, "Hey there, ducky, you wouldn't happen to Mr.Beecher, would you?"

Huffing out a sigh, Toby righted himself, glancing over at Melissa. His eyes scanned the... them, over once, more as a threat assessment, than any statement about Melissa's dress. He actually had to snort, at how close the guy looked to him in drag; a flippant enough memory to make him just damn the whole thing, nodding and shoving off the wall, offering out a hand.

"Beecher's fine. That makes you Melissa?"

Melissa took the hand, and even if she dressed like a girl, she shook hands like a man, "And here I was, hoping I'd get to 'Tobias'. But anyway, luv, yes, I'm Melissa, or Lissa, or Mel if you can't manage the others. Pleasure to meet you. Glad you found your way alright. Avoided the keeper's bite, did you?" That amused her, really, that the man had a keeper, or at least a butch boyfriend/girlfriend.

"Tobias' fine. Whatever," Once his hand was released, it went back in his coat pocket, as he shuffled on his feet and glanced around.

"He's asleep. It's four am, in California," Hence the rather sleep-deprived look he had going on. But once he had a hit or two, it wouldn't matter, anyway.

"Fair enough, Tobias is it, luv," Melissa said softly with a nod, "Alright, dear, how's about you let me take care of you then? Must be knackered. I've my flat just a bit aways, so you and I can start walking, hm, since this is going to be an eat-in deal and not a take-out." She motioned her head in the direction of her apartment before turning to head that way.

Toby nodded, following her- her?- down the street, glancing around; curious, more than worried. If he'd managed to do tits under the guards' noses, he had no doubt they could manage to keep under the radar, on someone's private property.

"You know, I never got to travel before coming here. Hadn't left the states in my life. S'a lot less different, than I thought,"

"Oh, it's about the same, save the accents, luv," Melissa waved a hand, "I lived in New York for a few years before this-or rather, a good many years before this, but anyways-and it was the same as London, if not a bit nicer. Not the people, of course, people are just about the same where ever you go, but New York has a different feel-Oh, this way, ducky," Her hand grabbed for Toby to guide him down a side alley to cut their walking a bit.

Eyes snapped to Melissa's hand around his, but he fought off the urge to draw it back. She wasn't a threat. He'd already decided, she wasn't a threat. Listening to the small-talk, he nodded along the best he could, figuring he should try and contribute something. "Spent most of my life on the East coast, Harvard Law... they're unlike people anywhere else." More cold. Self-centered. The thought made him roll his eyes, knowing he'd been like that up until his accident. "S'good to get away from,"

Melissa was ridiculously used to not having people contribute to her small talk, so it was sweet for Toby to try. "Oh, you were a lawyer, then, Tobias? How lovely, are you still doing that here? I went to school back when I was young. I think I did an literature major, but I can't be certain. I know I read a whole bloody lot," Laughing, she walked beside Tobias, glancing at the man as they went. He seemed a bit stressed. Melissa would be glad to make those woes go away for a bit.

"In a manner of speaking. I was disbarred at home. So I've got to see if that's the case here, or not." He noticed Melissa was walking a little close, but tried to just ignore it, in favor of going on. "So what do you do now?"

Looking both ways before she pulled the man across a street, Melissa raised her eyebrows, "Disbarred, were you? Let me guess...Oh, gets you disbarred these days? Getting jailed, I suppose. The opposite of what you're supposed to be doing, anyway, isn't it? Did you do that, then, luv? This way," There was not a speck of judgement in Melissa's voice over any of that as she guided them towards a rather posh townhouse.

It took Toby a minute to wade through the accent, and not-quite-conventional order of words, to figure out what Melissa meant. "Yeah. Vehicular manslaughter, DUI. 'Served six years before coming here." He didn't sound ashamed, any more than Melissa seemed to be judging. Hell, the man was getting him dope- he had to know his fair share of less-than-innocent types.

"Oh, ducky, shame, six years? Must have been rough," Melissa clucked her tongue and kept on going, letting go of the man's hand as he walked up the steps, pulling out keys to unlock the door, "Where'd you serve, then? Might have heard of it. Who knows! Though, I'm from a few decades back, so if it was new, probably not. Oh!" He turned as the door opened, gesturing the man in, "Is that what you meant by keeper, then? Bit of the old gang come along this way with you? How nice. I've Jacky, Jack Dent, who was here before me from my world."

"Oz- Oswald State Pen, level 4. Still don't understand how accidental death got me in a maximum security ward, but," He shrugged. "Yeah, the... Chris. He got here a few days before I did. 'Watched him die, the first time around. He's been sort of.. obsessive," Which wasn't all that different from normal, but Melissa didn't need to know that.

"Oh, has he now? Well, had I died, I supposed I'd be holding tight those those I loved while I could, wouldn't you?" She said before going on, "Of course, he also could be out of his head and think that now that your out you'll have no use for him and all that, thus holding you to him like some sort mad man so he doesn't lose you! I wouldn't now, never was in prison, oddly. Came close, though, once. Not for this, either," This being drug dealing, "No, nearly put in for prostitution! Imagine. I tart myself up a bit, but a hooker? Pardon me?" she was laughing as she took off her coat and got out some baggies, "Alright, love, already rolled or not? You can well imagine I'm sure the already rolled costs a bit more than roll your own, you know, labour and all that."

For an apparently batshit drug dealer, it shocked Chris on dead on 'she' seemed to be, and he was left just staring as she went on, shaking his head a little. At her laugh, he couldn't help but laugh himself, glad the focus was once again off his past.

"I can roll my own. And don't worry about cash," He pulled out his wallet, tossing it on the table with the bags, "That's your budget."

"Well, look at you, Mr.Moneybags," She just giggled a bit as she set to putting out different sized bags, "That'll do you for ten dollars, that one. Not that good, but cheap, after all, is nice. That," Pointing to a smaller bag, "That there is a hundred, due to high quality. You look around, do some shopping, we'll see what you want and set you up." She moved to sit down at the table, humming softly.

"Might as well go all out. Last hoorah, and all that. Go for the hundred," He shrugged, sitting back as well, letting Melissa handle the drugs until she took the money, out of courtesy. Granged, things seemed a lot less life-or-death than when he was getting drugs in Em City, but he still wanted to keep things as gentle as possible.

"Grab it up then, I've papers if you need them, bet you do," She grabbed them from...well, it was hard to tell if it was in her pants or her pockets, "And if you're going all out, I got some stuff I've never tried meself, but it's a thousand. Apparently it's been worked, nothing like that in my time so much, not so easily available, really," She pointed behind her, where the good stuff obviously was, "Would you fancy that instead? Or we can do the hundred."

He considered that for a second, before smirking and shrugging. "'Thousand it is- so long as you take a hit with me. I'm not doing something you've never done, without at least a little moral support,"

"Oh, aren't you naughty?" Melissa stood and went to get it, "I'd love to, since you're paying," She laughed and brought back the bag with a shake of her head, "Wanted to try it anyway, so you and I can share our first go of it, hm? How lovely."

"Fair enough," He was sure he had enough cash in he wallet to cover that- he'd pulled the money from his account to get clothes while he was out- hello, excuse to go out, in hindsight. Oh well. It was going to just as good a use, now. "Besides, if I'm going to get my ass beat over this, I might as well enjoy it to the fullest, first."

"Oh, ducky, I hope your over exaggerating," Melissa frowned a bit as she gave him the bag and took the money from the wallet Tobias had put on the table, "There," She counted it out so he would know she wasn't stealing from him before she sat back, "Care to tell me all about it? He a rough one, is he?"

Toby watched the exchange, only half concerned with her getting the count right; he'd fallen in to even more money than he'd had before. And this was something of an important thing for him to do, at least to him.

"Dope first, stories after." He was already working on dividing the dope out, rolling the sticks, still having enough left for another stick or two, if he was careful. Waste not, want not in prison, after all. He passed off Melissa's, reaching in his pocket for the lighter he'd grabbed from Chris, lighting them up.

"To life," He offered up, smirking before taking a drag, letting the smoke waft in his head for a minute, sighing out the remains. "Damn," His voice was already clouded, eyes not quite focused as he opened them. "Good shit indeed."

"To life, luv," Melissa murmured as she took a long drag, waiting as well before smiling as she blew out the smoke at Tobias' words, "I never lie about the quality of my shit. But goodness," As if it just hit her, she smiled a bit more, "This is rather potent, isn't it? Lord. Alright," She took another drag, "Tell me. Who's this Chris bloke, then, tell me about it."
