Every step they had taken closer to the resort and then to the bungalow, Henry could have sworn he felt the weight of the recent upheavals in his life dropping away. By the time he and Gabriella were standing in the magnificently appointed suite perched on stilts above crystal blue water, Henry could have sworn that he could fly, as light as he came to feel. Glancing off to one side and then the other, he confirmed that the immediately adjoining bunaglows were well and truly empty, as Henry had booked them as well to help assure their privacy.
He held Gabriella tight when she ran into his arms, burying his face for a moment in her thick, wavy hair. "No, nothing really does beat the genuine article," he agreed, taking in the fresh, clean scent of her. Henry laughed as he looked down at Gabriella's adoring smile.
"I am about as far from perfect as can be. But I do love you, and I'm happy to be as good as I can be for you."
