Who: Bobby & Mary
Where: Bobby's place
When: last Sunday afternoon
Why: Because Mary needs a tour of the Salver's library.
Warnings: Doubtful. Swearing at the worst, I'd figure.

The place was just as orderly as it ever was, which was to say the kitchen was clean, the bathroom and the back bedroom were both clean, the main room was mostly clean, and the library itself was kept the same way it ever was, in some unknown order on all the shelves lining the room, and in mostly-tidy piles and stacks on end tables and chairs where the shelves were full.

Bobby knew where to find everything, he always did, as did anyone who'd hung around long enough, the library was organized geographically, really, eastern religions and texts to the east wall, western ones to the west wall and so on, older texts towards the top shelves, more modern stuff closer to the bottom.

Just at that moment Bobby was finishing cleaning up from lunch and keeping an eye on the front walk, the previous afternoon Robbie and his girlfriend had marked out a rough circle with hubcaps around the area where the portkey dropped people off, just so Bobby knew where to look without looking like he was looking.

Yes, she'd made him a pie. It'd taken a short time to throw one together, since she kept pie crust frozen and on hand nowadays, so while she showered and got ready, it baked and was still a little warm in the dish. She'd also brought him donuts, like she'd promised.

Mary was happy to be out of the house, that big quiet house for the afternoon and Bobby was always good company. Plus, you know...there was alot she had to thank him for in person. That was why he really got the pie. She still hated that feeling from the portkey, but she touched it and wound up on Bobby's front lawn.

Bobby dried his hands on an almost brand-new gingham dishtowel, unable to keep from smiling as he nudged the door open, "Glass of milk you'll be just fine. At least that's what they tell me." He shrugged, slinging the dishtowel onto the counter and holding the door open for her, stepping out onto the well-weathered porch to let her pass, "C'mon in, it's ... damn good to see you again." Sure, he'd seen her at the wedding, and the couple times he'd come to visit since, but it was still almost a shock every time.

"Thanks for holding the door, Singer." She smiled at him as she passed him up the front steps of his house. She put down all of her baked goods to turn to Bobby and grab him up in a giant hug. "And it's damn good to see you, too."

He might have been older, but he was still Bobby. Even with that silly hat.

It was a whole collection of silly hats, so that he could pretend he didn't have a bald spot. Worked for Ron Howard, meant it was good enough for him. Of course, he'd never actually voice this rationalization.

There was an 'oof!' at the hug, but he returned it all the same, if a little awkwardly, he never really had gotten the hang of hugs, though between Dani and Torii and now Lilo, he might learn to get the hang of them pretty quick, "How've you been?" He asked once he managed to detach, crossing the narrow kitchen to get coffee mugs out of a cabinet.

"Been okay." She lied through her teeth. "I've got my boys now, which by the way...thank you. Again. For everything you did."

She followed him to the coffee. It smelled good. Familiar, kind of like Bobby himself.

Bobby's coffee was strong enough to stand a spoon up in, always had been, he really didn't know how to make it any other way. He shrugged at the thanks as he poured her a cup and handed it over, "Some milk in the fridge, sugar's ... somewhere. Ain't any reason to thank me for keepin' those two from being bigger idjits than they could help, I was playing cleanup more than I was playing cavalry."

This wasn't entirely true and he knew it, since even when he was cleanup he was often cavalry as well, "Besides, they've paid it back in spades already. Pulled my ass out of the fire more than once."

She fixed her cup to her liking and sat down at Bobby's table.

"Tell me more. About them. My boys." She took the kitchen knife from the bag with the pie in it, and taking out the pie, and plates she'd brought as well. With Bobby, you never knew. She served them up two pieces and indicated that he should sit. "It's too quiet in that big house."

He did so, smiling faintly, "Too quiet in this house and could fit the whole damn thing in the back sitting room at that place. Robbie calls it the Winchester Compound, starting to think he might be right." He shrugged then, just holding his mug between both hands for a moment, "What do you already know? Already figured out they're from ... hell, somewhere earlier on than I am, which is the weirdest damn thing." Another shrug, "Probably better off for it, though."

"Tell me about them when they were little." Mary looked for answers in the coffee in front of her. "I missed all of it."

She swirled the cup around and took a thoughtful sip.

"John's not much of a talker, you know."

"Never has been." He said, breaking off a bite of pie with the tines of the fork, "Don't figure that'll ever change, just one of those guys." He shook his head, "Sam got to be the same way, didn't talk much, wanted everyone else to talk to him though."

He shrugged then, "Didn't see a lot of them when they were real little, hell, didn't see that much of them when they were just kind of little, remember they used the house as more of a byway from the front to the back, or the other way around, depending. Rumsfeld always liked having them around, they were springy enough to roll around with him and not have to worry too much about not getting back up again."

She took a nibble from her slice, too, listening to him.

"Rumsfeld's your dog?" She didn't want to guess wrong.

It seemed unfair to her that Bobby would still know that much, albeit as little as it was, about her family and she still didn't know. And that was the problem. She wanted to know everything and there was no way she could. Mary felt the sadness cross her face for a moment, her mask slipped off and she quickly tried to replace it before he saw.

Bobby hadn't lived as long as he had without learning to read people, he'd seen, but he wouldn't bring it up until she did, or until it was important. He was like that.

He nodded, "Was, died a few years back, never did get another. Probably should now I'm here." He huffed a laugh, "Used to have a snapshot of the three of them taking a nap on the rug in the main room, figure Dean was about eight. Couldn't've been much older." He shook his head, "Rumsfeld treated them same as he did any of the younger dogs people've brought by, figure he did more for their manners than I ever did."

"We've got a dog at the house. Well, I'm told she was Dean's dog at first, but now he and Sammy have joint custody now that Dean moved out of the house."

She sipped her coffee.

"Wish that picture came through with you, I'd have liked to see it." She managed a smile this time. "Have you met my grandsons yet? Aidan's with Sammy and Anne in Greece right now and little Robbie's with Bela. Big Robbie didn't like too much when I tried to spoil him, so I told him I'd save it for his baby self."

"Roxy." He nodded, "Met her when I came to dinner, she's good people." That was Bobby through and through.

There was a faint smile, "The older set helped me get the library in order when I first got here, Robbie and the twins and Robbie's girlfriend who's decided to adopt me, she says, or at least the library." He scratched a brow, "Still getting used to the place, half of the time I'm sure I've been clocked over the head with something hefty and I'll wake up back home any minute."

"She is good people. She's so good with the boys, big and little. Sam said she used to have a thing for eating socks, but maybe that's passed now." Mary nibbled more of her pie.

"I know what you mean, about this place. Its alot to kind of, wrap your brain around. John and the boys were here when I got here, so it was easier. Would you believe I showed up in the nightgown I died in? Talk about awkward and cold." She managed a little smile, remembering her boys coming to rescue her.

"Makes a sort of sense at least." He said, shrugging one shoulder, "Your arrival, anyway, I'm still mostly confused why somebody would want to be me. Or... well, not really me, but damn close enough for the numbers." He shook his head, "It's a TV show, haven't seen any of it, just found some articles and synopses of episodes when I was putting the library to rights again, things got pretty tumbled when I blew in."

Another there then gone smile, "Not quite as cold, I'd guess, but still pretty awkward."
