Who: Arkady and Richard Heller
What: Meeting
Where: LA
When: This afternoon/Richard's Arrival
Warnings: None likely

Richard had looked at the website the other woman had linked him to, and even though he had read it all, he still didn't know what to think. Alternate universes only existed in movies and TV and comic books. But there had been a vortex, and he had been drop kicked into the middle of the city, when he'd been sitting around at CTU, waiting for Audrey to come back and take him home.

It just didn't make sense, and trying to make it make sense made his head hurt. And then she was there, and he had no idea where she had come from because she wasn't there a moment ago. he jumped back, hands up, as if to protect himself.

He didn't think this day could get any weirder. Hell, for all he knew, he was still at CTU, still being tortured. Manning had called it Sensory Disorientation. Sense of time was the first thing to go, sense of reality had to be second, because Richard didn't know which end was up anymore.

"Are you...Arkady?" he asked, tentatively. If he was dreaming, it was a crazy, whacked out dream. Did people dream, when they were being tortured? He wasn't sure.

She just smiled, nodding, "That's me!" She was an interesting conglomeration of styles, and could very well have been a dream, or at the very least a hallucination. Starting with the fact that she was almost pale enough to glow in the dark, and her eyes were definitely purple. On top of that she was wearing a denim jacket that had seen better days, a patchwork skirt that was obviously handmade given as how there were upholstery patches and what appeared to be at least one carpet square in amid the other fabrics.

She tilted her head then, offering a hand, "And you're the guy who wants to be out of LA. Do you know where else you'd like to be? There's a whole world out there to pick from."

Richard shook his head. "Anywhere that isn't LA." He sighed. "I'm Richard." he realised, belatedly, he'd never said. He hated his name. His father's middle name, and he hated his father now, more than ever.

"New York, maybe. Or London. I always wanted to go to London." He tried to smile, but it didn't quite play out. "Really, just anywhere."

She grinned, "London it is! That's where I live anyway, in Whitechapel." She gave him a quick hug, and when she stepped back again they were still on a streetcorner, but it wasn't the one they'd been on before, "Richard. Hm. Like the king." She nodded at this, having made the connection she needed, heading off down the block, still keeping hold of his arm, "There's a old fashioned deli over here. I bring Spam here sometimes."

"Spam?" Richard said, with the lilt of a question. Spam was an odd name, but everybody had to have a name, some were just worse than others.

He didn't think he was anything like a king, but it made him feel special that she said that.

She nodded, "Spam's my paint-piglet. He lives with me and the chikkenz." Somehow she managed to pronounce both Ks and the Z, "He's an artist. Regular little pig-casso."

She grinned when they reached the deli, tugging the door open and waving him inside, giving a cheery hello to the man behind the counter, "Hi Chuck!" She had no idea if his name was 'Chuck' or not, but she'd always called him that.

"Paint...piglet," Richard repeated. Whoa. Okay. yeah, he was definitely dreaming. But he liked Arkady, and he wasn't sure he wanted to wake up. Maybe this was better, in the end.

Richard nodded to Chuck, if that was his name. His eyes went to the menu board. "So many choices," he murmured. He wasn't even sure where to begin. He wasn't sure it mattered what he ate, in a dream.

Arkady smiled again, ruffling his hair and shaking her head, "Just get what you usually get, and if you don't usually get anything, get roast beef." She shrugged, "That's what I do."

The man behind the counter had already started putting together a sandwich for Arkady, "Take your time, no sense rushing a good sandwich."

Richard nodded. He didn't really like roast beef, so he went with the turkey. He ordered it, and watched the guy make it. He'd never really considered sandwich making an art, but it sort of felt that way.

"I..." Richard patted down his pockets, expecting he wouldn't find his wallet. CTU had taken everything from him. He made a face, finding a wallet in his pocket. He pulled it out. "I'll cover this, yeah?" Well, that was considerably better than saying he didn't have any money.

She nodded, "If you like." She said, "And take a look, see who your wallet says you are. Mine says that I'm a yoga instructor for kids, I'm actually pretty good at it." She shrugged, "KK's says that she's a mechanic, but we already knew that."

He flipped his wallet around, to find the ID. "It says I work for a hotel in London." Richard frowned. Was that his ideal job? Well, it was in London. That was a start. Far better than LA.

She smiled, "We can go check that out after we eat." She shrugged, "Don't have to stay if you don't want to, I know some people drop into jobs that don't fit them at all and they move on."

Richard nodded. "Okay." He was okay with this. he was making peace with all of it, because Kady was nice, and the sandwich was going to be good and it was all just a dream, anyway. No reason to get worked up, or anything.

He took the tray with his freshly made sandwich, and moved to a table to sit down and eat. He was starved.

Arkady smiled again as she perched in her own seat, feet swinging. She blinked up at the window when it started to rain, one of those brief, passing summer stormclouds, "Said it looked like rain."

"You did, and you were right," Richard grinned a little. He reached up to push his hair out of his face. He usually didn't mind it, but it did get annoying when he wanted to eat.

She tilted her head, watching this for a moment before digging through her bag and coming up with a simple Alice band, sliding it onto his head with a grin, "There!"

It was anyone's guess why she had it, given as how she was fairly well bald.

For half a second, he had a flashback to having the metal blinding mask snapped into place over his eyes. He squirmed, very nearly coming up from his seat. The moment passed, and he settled, hair held back from his face. "Thank you."

Her brow creased slightly at that, head tilting again, curious mostly, shaking her head once he'd settled again, "You're welcome. That's terrible. I'm sorry."

She shrugged, picking at her own sandwich then, "Sometimes people are terrible. I didn't mean to remind you." She shook her head, "Shouldn't have to remember things like that."

Sadly, the innocent act worked with Arkady, because she was easily distracted. She shrugged, "I guess I don't remember. Good sandwich?"

She beamed, "You're welcome! I like it here, sometimes I go and get KK lunch from here when she gets tired of all the junkfood that we don't have at home, like you know, fried bits of meat that we don't know what bits they are, or tacos, or pizza with enough grease to lube an engine in it she says!"

Richard laughed out loud, at that imagery. He shook his head after a moment. "The trick is, don't get meat on it. That's what makes the pizza greasy."

"There is something to be said for pepperoni pizza," Richard nodded. "I like it, too. Vegetables ruin a good, greasy pizza."

Richard laughed. "That too. You can look at it both ways." He took another bite of his sandwich. He was getting full, but he was enjoying to food, and the company, and didn't want to end the meal.

She laughed brightly again, catching his arm and just teleporting them off to the park, sure, they could have walked, but where was the fun in that?

The space between point A and point B, the actual space they occupied while teleporting was full of stars, speckled pinpricks and longer trailing lines as everything stretched out only to snap back into place again at the edge of the duckpond in Hyde park.

She dug through the bag at her hip before coming up with a package of crackers, which she handed to Richard, "Here, you'll be their new best friend."

Richard took the crackers and split the package open. Ducks were already moving toward him. He threw some of the crackers out and watched the ducks dive for the treat.

"Do you come here often?" He held the crackers out for her to take some to giv eto the ducks, too.

She nodded, taking some of the crackers and crouching, not caring at all about the puddle she was mostly in, sitting still enough that the ducks came to snap the crackers right out of her fingers, "Sometimes. Sometimes I go other places, sometimes I don't go anywhere at all."

She nodded at that, "So do I. It's where the heart is, or where I hang my hat. I've got a hat, for when I go out in the garden, it's a straw hat."

She shook her head then, tapping a knuckle to her forehead, "Sometimes I just go places right up here."
