Who: Sam Ford and Iggy
What: Nothing! Nothing at all! What makes you think something's going to happen? Nothing's going to happen!
Where: Pizza place in Brooklyn.
Warnings: You people are relentless!

Sam was a complete idiot, he decided after re-reading his comments to Iggy. What a spaz. He just hadn't been expecting to talk to Iggy. He'd avoided the tall, gorgeous blond guy with wings--wings--for months. Sam was convinced he was the only gay teenager in the world and, not having a chance with anyone, preferred to admire his crushes from afar.

Suddenly being healed, then suddenly finding out his best friend had disappeared, then suddenly being invited to pizza with the guy he'd crushed on since day one? Well, it was a little overwhelming for Sam Ford.

He didn't give himself much time to dwell on it, though. Five minutes to get to the bridge meant he had to head for the portkey right away. He briefly considered jogging--he hadn't been able to run in eight years--but decided against it. Sweat, and all. He still made it to the portkey with plenty of time, heading for the bridge and looking for the wings.

Iggy, on the other hand, mostly knew Sam as 'Candy's friend Sam', knew him enough to know who he was in passing, but he figured that without Candy as a go-between they might as well strike out as friends on their own. Or something.

He'd portkeyed in from Alaska and was just circling at the moment, re-aquainting himself with the city noise, there was, as usual, the momentary panic when everything was static until he got noises sorted out again and could judge distance. He managed to land himself in a quiet spot on the pedestsrian walkway on the right end of the bridge, shaking out wing and then the other before folding them down, not completely, just enough that there wasn't any drag in the intermittant breeze.

Sam saw Iggy land, and headed over. He was making an effort not to appear too overeager, and since the other likely option was dread, he hit his stride somewhere in between. Sam was a very good actor, thanks to growing up around his father's friends. He approached Iggy casually, giving him time to adjust before walking up to him. "Hey."

Brilliant lines of our lifetime.

Iggy smiled, he had enough practice that he could focus on a person, or at least mostly towards a person, it was easier in the quiet, which was why, right at the moment, he was looking somewhere over the top of Sam's head, but it was at least the right direction, "Hey. Hope you're hungry, this place is used to dealing with Navi and me and I'm pretty sure her metabolism is even higher than mine."

He cocked his head, mostly a nod, "C'mon." He kept one arm down, apparently relaxed with his hand at about hip height, fingers spread to brush against railings or walls on occasion, just to keep himself on track.

Brilliant conversationalists the both of them.

Sam didn't seem to take exception to the indirect eye contact. He wasn't exactly sure how Iggy's senses worked. He didn't know if there were weird powers there, like Daredevil or what. Obviously he could fly, and not to mention that he was leading him to their destination, so there was some way for him to 'see'.

"I probably will be as soon as I smell it." He didn't quite have his appetite right now, but he imagined it would come back. He followed alongside Iggy, trying to think of something to say. "Does Navi go to our school?" he asked, all casual curiosity. He didn't remember anyone by that name, but it wasn't like he knew everybody. And really, he shouldn't go around assuming that any female name Iggy mentioned was his girlfriend.

It was quite a bit like Daredevil, actually, something that was somewhere between sonar and echolocation, which was why he hated city noise, because it blanked everything out to static and he was back to being blind.

There was another smile, nodding, "Yeah, that should be pretty soon," A pause to breathe, "Yeeeah, that's it." A shrug, "Navi's my fairy. She teaches kindergaren, she kind of adopted me when I fell in here. Well, rescued me, then adopted me later." There was another pause, counting steps before sidestepping around a newspaper box and stepping up to a door, he bumped his knuckles before getting ahold of the handle and tugging it open, "After you."

Whatever it was, it impressed Sam. It was easy to forget that Iggy was blind, until little things like seeing him bump his hand made Sam feel a little guilty for not stepping in to help.

Sam's stomach growled, and he grinned. "Okay, yeah. That smells awesome." He followed Iggy inside. "Fairy?" Why was he even surprised anymore? "Of course. Fairy. I really should get used to all of this one of these days." He chuckled.

Even if he had stepped in, it probably would have made Iggy bristle. He was used to making sure he wasn't a burden on anyone, even after he'd been in this universe and away from his on-the-run family for as long as he had. Luckily the restaurant was fairly quiet that time of morning, but still open, the place was set up almost cafeteria style, though the counter was tiny and fronted the kitchen, leaving the rest of the space open for a scattering of tables and chairs and a couple ancient arcade machines in the corner.

He grinned again, "Fairy. She's blue." He shrugged, "I've probably still got some glitter on me where she hugged me on the way out." He did, in fact, have most of a blue handprint in the middle of his back, most of the glitter had come off during his flight, but that was still there, "They have the specials up on the board yet?"

Sam looked around. Classic pizza diner, nice. Yeah, he had definitely missed this. Sophie had brought him a pie when he was in the hospital, but delivery wasn't the same as the diner experience. He leaned around and noticed the handprint. "Oh, yeah. You have blue. On your back."

He looked up at the board. "Hmm..There's a West Coast pizza with artichoke and avacado and junk. And a barbecue chicken thing." He wondered if Iggy ate chicken. It might be weird to eat something else with wings. He didn't ask, though. "And a sign for their new breakfast pizza." That would probably be the most appropriate, given that it wasn't even eight in the morning yet, but Sam wasn't craving breakfast food.

"Avocado on pizza, eugh." His nose wrinkled at that, shaking his head, "The barbecue chicken's awesome though, it's got like, bacon bits and barbecue sauce instead of red sauce, it's good."

He grinned at the cheery greeting from the little old woman behind the counter, answering her "No fairy today?" with: "No, she got engaged, so we moved to Alaska, this is" There was the briefest pause before he continued, "My friend Sam." It sounded better than 'this guy I barely know who just got out of the hospital and is in dire need of some real food.'

Sam found the West Coast pizza a little dubious himself. "Yeah, that sounds pretty good," he said of the chicken.

There was a--very brief, very irrational--moment of panic when he thought Iggy might have said 'a date'. There was NO reason for him to suspect that, but that didn't stop his brain from visiting Crazytown. He hardly even knew Iggy, really! A date wouldn't have been a bad thing, but a public announcement like that would've been enough to make Sam's heart stop for a second.

Once his brain started processing reality again, Sam gave a friendly smile to the lady and waved.

The woman eyed them both for a moment, then tutted, shaking her head, "And neither of you is getting enough to eat, beanpoles the both of you!" Iggy just shrugged, smiling again, "Growing boys, what do you expect?" That was one of the other things Iggy liked about this place, the woman who insisted on everyone calling her 'auntie'. Navi tended to collect people, good people, whether she realized it or not.

The woman beamed, "What can I get you?" Iggy shrugged, glancing back at Sam, his focus just a little better inside out of the city noise, not over the other teen's head this time, but somewhere past his right ear, "Barbecue chicken?"

Sam grinned at the woman. She was instantly likable. Sam didn't really have a grandmotherly influence in his life, and it was kind of nice to be fussed over. Not quite the same sort of fussing that Sophie did. It was sort of endearing, really. "It's not for lack of trying," he supplied. Sam was probably even skinnier after his most recent bout. The color was back in his cheeks and he felt great, but he could definitely stand to gain a few pounds.

He nodded to Iggy's suggestion. "Yeah, that sounds good." Had he already said that? "Let's do that." In a moment of inspiration, he added, "And throw some pineapple on there, if you can." He turned back to Iggy with a grin and a shrug. "It's good with barbecue sauce," he explained.

Iggy grinned, nodding and turning back to the woman, "Might as well put it on the whole thing, sounds good to me. Ginormous-size of course, and as much cola as you can legally give me, I'm going to need the caffeine, and a plate of poppers if you can crank those out this early."

"Of course." She said with another smile, adding, "Corner table's open." as she slid a soda across the counter for Iggy, "Soda's right here, what about you Iggy's friend Sam?"

"Coke for me," he said. "Breakfast of champions." He grinned. His internal clock was all messed up. He would probably be exhausted when he got home and sleep the rest of the day. Not everyday he could eat pizza for breakfast, though. Every other day, maybe. "Tomorrow morning? Chinese takeout."

He got his soda and followed Iggy to the corner table. "So what are you taking this fall?" he asked, more for conversation than anything else. He wasn't even sure he remembered what his own classes were.

Iggy shrugged as he settled, fingers having brushed across the back of the chair and the edge of the table so he knew right where he was, "Not really sure. I'm still not entirely sure what I was taking before, so, probably be more confused when I go back."

He shook his head, "All I know is that I didn't turn out to be a math whiz, which was apparently a concern for some people."

Sam chuckled. "Yeah, I know that feeling. Hopefully it'll help not coming in in the middle of a class, right? Teachers tend to tell you the name of the class in the beginning."

"I'm not bad at math," Sam said, shrugging. "If you have questions, or anything." Sam was actually pretty decent at school in general. He hadn't had any sports or crime-fighting (it seemed to be a popular hobby around here) to distract him. He spent a lot of indoor hours with homework. "I kinda wanna take one of those classes about magic or whatever. Learn more about all the different stuff here."

He laughed once, shaking his head, "Mostly I just dropped myself in where they had room for me, I, uh, wasn't really expecting to stay." He shrugged, the movement mostly just a lifting of his wings, "I haven't had the best luck with schools." Mostly for obvious reasons, but also for reasons he didn't talk about. Navi knew, Candy had known, and Sam would likely learn, eventually.

"Well, at least Taunton seems to be good at accepting all kinds of students, right? I hear the curriculums are really personalized for 'gifted' kids, or whatever. Do you get flying lessons, or anything?" Not that he was implying Iggy's flying skills needed help. He just assumed the other boy had to have more interesting classes than the math, science and english classes Sam felt stuck in.

He hoped the school was better for Iggy than the old ones. Else he wouldn't still be planning to come back in the fall, even after Candy left. Right?

He nodded, "Yeah, that's part of what weirded me out about the place at first, but everybody's been really, what's it, accommodating, making sure I can tell what's going on and don't get lost and stuff." Another shrug, "Even when there was that scare with the Purifiers a while back, seems like the staff is kind of used to handling a crisis situation."

Another crooked little smile, "No, no flying lessons, I did get to do a demo for biology a while ago, since I corner and stuff the same as a bird does, and I'm easier to see."

"Yeah, they all seem really good at that. Like they've all got war stories." Sam really hadn't seen that much action. People around him had 'adventures', but they did their best to shelter him from that. That was probably for the best, given that most of the adventures involved things that weren't exactly legal.

"That's cool," he said, his tone casual. He couldn't really just say 'I like your wings' or something stupid like that. A cute girl could get away with saying that, but Sam would just sound weird and creepy. "So you think you'll stay?"

He nodded, "Yeah, never been at a school long enough to get a summer break before, and definitely not long enough to go back again. It's ... kind of nice."

He smiled up at the waitress as she dropped off the platter of poppers, "Thanks."

He turned back to Sam then, focus much better now than it had been previously, "Without Candy though I had to put up a post for a seeing-eye-human. This one girl volunteered, I think she's a year ahead of me though, so I don't know if that's going to work. Guess I'll find out in a couple weeks."

"Cool," he said when Iggy said he'd be coming back. "I don't know too many people there," he explained. "It's a relief to know at least one person I know will be there."

He smiled and thanked the waitress, and sobered a little when the subject changed back to Candy. "Yeah," he said quietly, thinking. She was probably the only person he couldve talked to about what he was feeling right now, but she was gone. Candy had been great. She would basically drop everything and help if she thought one of her friends needed her. It stung that she was gone. Iggy probably felt exactly the same way. "If we have classes together or whatever, I can help. I don't mind. Don't even have to worry about giving me heartworm medicine." He grinned, inwardly facepalming. Hopefully 'good sense of humor' wasn't on Iggy's list of requirements for friendship et al.

His brow creased a moment, blinking once, taking just a moment to catch up to that and laughing as soon as he did, shaking his head, "Well that's a relief. You're probably harder to medicate than Angel." He shook his head then, explaining, "Angel was ... is my little sister, sort of, she's Gazzy's sister, actually, but she's like everyone's little sister." Another wing-shrug before snagging one of the appetizers to shut himself up.

That sounded like a bit of a touchy subject. Probably not something he should ask for further expansion on that. Not for their first conversation, anyway. "Probably. I'm a squirmer." That was lame, but probably better than mentioning anything related to a gag-reflex.

It made Sam realize that he was actually pretty lucky. His family was here. Iggy must've felt really alone.

Thinking, Sam took a popper and bit into it.
