Who: Soren Skwigelf and Henriette Stillman.
What: Soren's a good step-husband.
When: Monday afternoon.
Where: Wolfpackhouse.
Warnings: Swearing. Will update if needed.

Soren went to find Henn, looking around all the rooms of their new home. He had a bottle of soda in one hand and his favorite nesting blanket in the other. When he finally did find her, he smiled a little to himself. "Hey, mind some company?"

She was curled up in her shelf-nest in the back parlor, right where she'd been since she'd heard, with only brief forays into the rest of the house. She had Houses of the Holy on repeat, playing quietly. She'd been singing along with Over the Hills and Far Away when he found her, smiling sheepishly and shaking her head, "Nope. C'mere."

His smile grew sadder, and he moved to join her, sitting down next to her and pulling the blanket over them before wrapping his arms around her. "Hi. Brought you a soda, we can share."

She smiled again, a little more honest and a little less sheepish, turning the volume down a little more before settling comfortably against his side, "Thanks." She tilted her head up to kiss his cheek, "And thanks for looking after my ma."

"I worry about both of you, you know." He burrowed a little, petting her hair and ever-so-slightly rocking her. He really had been worrying about her, and he wanted to make sure she was okay.

She insinuated herself into his lap without even having to try, tucking her head up against his shoulder. She'd done the same thing to Cass on the first day, just curled up tiny, "I'm okay." A shrug, "Doing better, anyway."

"Better's good. You don't have to be great any time soon, but better is good." He kissed her forehead, sighing.

She nodded again, "It's like I told Cass, he's not my dad, but he was still my pops, you know?" There was another faint smile, "Cass said I need to stop talking about him in past tense."

"He's still around. Just not here." He smiled and squeezed her gently. "And he might come back, you never know. It's happened before."

She nodded, curling up against his chest again, "Yeah. I can't help it though, I mean, it's not like I'm saying he's dead, he's just not here, you use the past tense for people who aren't here."

Sighing, he pulled her closer. "I know." He lightly rubbed her shoulders as they snuggled, wishing with all of his heart that there was something more he could do for her than just give her a backrub. He wished he could genuinely stop the aching.

And even just that wishing was good for her, since it was an intent, and for all purposes emotional intent was just as good as actual emotion.

Sure, she still had to work to actually feed off any energy that didn't belong to Cass, but other people's emotional states still had sway on hers, the same as always.

She snuggled herself closer, arms curling around his waist, "Are you doing okay?"

Shrugging, he smiled. "I'm all right. More or less. Therapy's coming along well enough, and Sindre really helps." He nuzzled her and lightly kissed her cheek.

"I really ought to talk to that kid some more." She said, returning the cheek-kiss before resting her head against his shoulder again, "Probably should kind of get out more in general, huh?"

"You don't have to just this minute. You're allowed to feel a little better before we make you go and be social." He stroked her hair lightly. "Nobody's forcing you. But I know Sin'd help make you feel better. He does that."

She shrugged, "Being social would probably make me feel better, I'm just pretending it won't. I think, hell if I even know anymore, right now, whatever."

"Well, I'm always around to help if you want to try being social. We could go do something now. Want to go get a root beer float?" He smiled and danced fingers over her arm, lightly casting water spells as he did so.

"Sure." She said with a nod, still curled up against his chest, but smiling crookedly at the water, shaking her head, "You're lucky I don't melt."

He smiled, lightly kneading like a very careful kitten. "I know you don't melt. I've seen you melt before. And if you were a witch, you'd be Glinda. She wasn't allergic to water. I read the books." He smiled and kissed her forehead, sighing a little. "I wish I could take some of your pain for you."

She snickered at that, shaking her head, "I would not. Can you see me flying around in a bubble and effin'... glittering at people? Fuck no. I'd smite some nonbelievers with some effin' flying monkeys is what I'd do."

Avoiding the subject? A little, but it was because she still wasn't used to people caring that much. She was getting used to it, but still had a ways to go.

"In the books, she was a lot less glittery. What she did, was she kissed people on the forehead. If they were from Oz, it shimmered when they looked at the person, and they saw the kiss mark. It was a warning that they had Glinda's protection, and she'd beat the crap out of them if they hurt someone she cared about. She had long red hair she wore in a braid, none of that 70s perm pouf nonsense. You're book Glinda. ... that's what we should go as for Halloween this year. Oz characters. Cass could be the Wizard, you could be Glinda, I could be the Lion, and Sin could be the Tin Man and Torii could be Dorothy and on and on and on."

She shook her head, "Been too long since I read those, all I remember was the silver shoes. And was Ozma the same girl? Or someone else? Wonder if I've got a copy anywhere, know the ones I had back home were read to death."

"She was the princess that was given to the witch because her father didn't want her to take over. I could buy copies. I wouldn't mind reading them to you." Soren's favorite thing to do for anyone was to read to them; books were as much a part of his soul as music, and communicating through either seemed to be the most pure thing he could do besides physical affection. He liked doing one then the other even more.

She smiled at that, arms looping around his waist again in a tight hug, "I'd like that. I can even read some if you get tired."

Henn liked reading because it was a lot like singing, it had cadence and tone and everything.

He smiled and hugged her back, letting his cheek rest on the top of her head. "If any of you guys go, I don't know what I'll do. Or Mom or Dad." He bit his lip, trying not to dwell.

Henn shook her head, tilting her head up to kiss the underside of his chin, "We won't, not without taking you with us." She was sure of that much, "Place wouldn't put us all together again and let us get attached if it was going to take us all apart again."
