Who: Oizys and Styx.
What: Lots of crying. Baby stuff.
Where: Styx' home, New York
Warnings: Maybe language.

Oizys hadn't realized how much she wanted her mother until she talked to her sister, and with her mother not there, Styx was the next best thing. The fact that she'd told Dolos to bring stuff over slipped her mind completely, and the moment Styx said her wards were down Oizys transported herself directly to her sister's side. She got along fairly well with Styx - hate and misery had a hbit of going hand in hand, after all. And while there were normally unspoken rules between them about acceptable behaviour, all of that went out the window. As soon as she saw her sister she flung her arms around her neck, and broke down into a sobbing mess.

If there was one thing Styx prided herself on the most - because let's face it, she prided herself on a lot of things - it was being a mother. And while she would have normally spoken down to a sibling that had become pregnant out of wedlock, Styx had a soft spot for Oizys and she didn't HATE Dolos. No one could really hate Dolos. He just annoyed her. All that talking. So, all in all, she thought Oizys had made an excellent choice for the father of her child. At least it wasn't an Olympian. So she was feeling rather maternal when Oizys contacted her and was pleased to be able to help out.

The minute Oizys began sobbing, Styx wrapped her arms around her and soothingly began to stroke her back.

"Shh, child. It's alright. You're ok now."

Oizys cried. It was something she'd done for ever, over any little thing. And while she mostly did it in private, and offered the world an outward facade of apathetic annoyance, it didn't stop the fact that Oizys was, perhaps, the most prolific crier around.

And so Styx's words didn't help much in stemming the tears, but they did have Oizys tightening her arms as she pressed her face into her sister's shoulder, shoulders shaking with sobs as she felt the hand stroking against her back.

"It's not. it's never going to be alright. I don't know how to do this. I don't want to know how."

"It will be. And really, it doesn't matter if you want to or not, you have to know it now. But that's alright. That's what I'm here for."

Styx just held her closer while she talked as Oizys seemed to need it.

She sniffed, turning her head toward Styx, cheeks damp. "I'm sorry. You probably think I'm being dumb. I didn't plan on this." truth be told, she was kind of waiting for her sister to call her a whore.

"Not at all." She smiled down at her. "Mistakes happen...more than you know. It's not your fault. Come sit down, and we'll talk about how we'll deal with this. Ok?"

She nodded wordlessly, and pulled away just enough to go to the sofa, taking a seat and pulling her knees up to her chest. While Styx's behavior was pretty far removed from what she expected, she was too wrapped up in her own misery to realize Styx was being nice and kind. Once her sister sat down beside her, she leaned in, resting her head on her shoulder.

"Styxie, I'm so lost. I want this pregnancy over with, because it's the most miserable thing ever, but... if it's over, then I have a baby to deal with, and I don't know what to do. And if I tell Dolos, he just says not to worry, and he'll take care of it and I know he will but then the baby will like him better than me and it's not fair. I'm going to be horrible."

"Oh, now you are going to be fine. Every new mother has the same fears. The baby will like you just fine." She wrapped an arm around Oizys' shoulder and rubbed her back.

"There is nothing like the bond between a mother and child."

"But everyone likes him more. And maybe it knows I didn't want a baby, or that I considered Ares' whole creepy "give me the child" thing for half a second." She sniffled lightly, tears slowing as she fell into more of a sulk. Styx telling her everything was going to be ok worked loads better than Dolos saying the same thing. Of course, she never believed Dolos with the important stuff.

"I can make this go faster, right? I can't do this for 7 more months. I have never cried this much in my life. But not too fast... I don't have any stuff. I probably need stuff, right?"

"No, they won't. Babies aren't psychic, darling. Simply empathic. They can feel that you are distressed and they can feel when you are happy. It's a special baby thing." Moving so that she could face Oizys, she lifted her chin so they could lock eyes.

"Of course, but I need you to calm down before we can get started."

"OF COURSE I'm distressed. I'm having a baby!"

Oizys offered Styx a sulky glare for a long moment when she lifted her chin, something about her sister being maternal making her feel about five. Which was ok, for the moment - five sounded nice. Instead, she sighed,, offering a nod, and making an effort to visibly calm down a bit, taking a few slow breaths.

"Right. Calm. I can do calm."

"Uh-huh. Ok. Good. Keep up those breaths. Now, come sit on the floor with me. We are going to do a little meditating." She stood from the couch and taking Oizys' hand guided her off the couch and onto the floor, placing her directly in front of her and telling her to bend and cross her legs in front of her. Once there, she took both of her hands and gave her a gentle smile.

"Close your eyes."

Oizys followed Styx's instructions, trying to do it with the least amount of sullenness possible. As much as she hated being pregnant, she was worried about having to deal with a baby right away - although there was the added bonus of other people being able to help once the thing was out of her stomach.

Once seated her fingers curled around Styx's, and closed her eyes, head bending forward as she made a point of continuing to breathe. Calm was good.

"Very good. Just keep breathing deeply." She waited a few more breathes before continuing. "Now, look for that spark of life inside you. Focus on that."

"Spark? Right."

She nodded, brow furrowed lightly as she did as asked, still not sure what it was she was looking for, but searching internally anyway. It took some time, but she was determined, and when she felt it... that presence inside her that was NOT her, she gasped. So weird.

When she heard the gasp, she smiled. That first feeling of your child was always the best. Her mother had taught her how to do that and Styx'd had every intention of telling her daughters, but Oizys it seemed was taking their place.

"Now, focus just on that and clear your mind. Let your mind go blank. He'll tell you want he wants you to know."

She did as instructed, trying ti find that spot where her mind was clear enough to hear her child instead of the outside noises. It took a bit of time and effort, but once she did - she was surprised she hadn't heard him before. It was a thought a second, and she didn't know enough about babies to know if it was normal, or if he simply took after his father - with her luck, it was the latter. As quick as the thoughts came they tended to focus on a few key points... Dolos' voice, her laugh, the feel of a hand on her stomach. She could hear - no feel - snippets of arguments she'd had with Dolos, and felt mirth attached to them. Not even born, and their child mocked them. He was definitely theirs.

Still, as simple as the thoughts were, they were still too quick for her to get much of a thought in. She smiled lightly, eyes still closed, her voice soft as she spoke to her sister. "Hey, Styxie. He doesn't want to let me talk. Can't you do your mean thing and just tell him to be born already? Everyone listens to you when you get all bossy."

Styx cocked an eyebrow up at her. Her kids, maybe, but everyone else just thought she was a bitch.

"Not this time. It has to be you. Keep in mind, you haven't been listening for two months, he's probably thirsty for contact." Or he could be the Dolos. Whatever. "Just make your thought louder than his."

"Thirsty for contact? Right. Or maybe he just takes after his daddy." She was amused as her hand drifted over the flat of her stomach, and she went back to focusing, listening to the babble, and eventually getting her own thoughts loud enough to offer a greeting to her sprog. She had his attention, she could talk to him, only...

"What am I supposed to say?"

"The wea..." She offered a look to her sister, but closed her eyes again with a sigh, starting up a strange and bizarre silent conversation with her sprog. About ten minutes later she opened her eyes fully, a look of mild confusion on her face.

"He said he was ready to come out now. I told him he had to be bigger than a tadpole. He said he was going to sleep and work on getting bigger. Styx... is it normal for them to talk in plurals? Everything was we. But there's only one."

"Hey... Ow!" She scowled, rubbing her hand lightly as she settled back, grumbling. "What happened to being nice?"

Anyone else would have gotten hit back, but instead Oizys just sighed, eyes closing as she reluctantly searched again, shoulders falling just a bit as she found it. She spent a moment conversing with her other child before she opened her eyes, offering Styx an accusatory glare.

"Way to go, Styx. There's two. Thanks." Because it was somehow her sister's fault.

"Lucky? Styx..."

It wasn't attitude in her voice now, but more a sense of despair. "I don't know what to do with one. Now I can fuck up twice as much. Hey there, kids. Welcome to the world. No one believes in us anymore, your mom and dad hate each other, and you drew the straw stick when picking a mom."

"What does being able to do something about it have to do with wallowing in misery?" sighing, she took Styx's hand and stood, leaning in to kiss her sister's cheek. "I'm horrible. I know. I'm sorry. So what can I learn in a month or so?"

She knew the basics... she had enough younger siblings that she knew about diapers and bottles and not dropping them and such. It was the mother part that scared her.

"Well, there is..." Styx waved her hand towards the table where a stack of books sat. "Of course, you can pawn some of those off on Dolos. They are all about parenting, things to expect, what to buy, and such. Of course, I can help with most of that. We can go to the baby store together. I know what you need."
