Who: Anya Lehnsherr and Henry McCoy
What: Anya wants to have awkward relationship discussions after two weeks
Where: Anya's apartment
Warnings: Nah

Anya had been getting ready for the evening while the dinner finished cooking. She'd straightened up, and set the table. She'd debated setting up candles, and had actually set them on the table and then taken them down three times. Eventually, she figured that Hank wouldn't object, and left them out on the table. This was the first time she'd invited Hank into her home, and she wanted everything to be nice.

After slipping on a simple black dress, she finished stirring the sauce for the last time as she put on her pearl earrings. Her timer went off right at six, and so did her door buzzer. "Just a minute," she called, pouring the sauce and setting things straight before going to the door and opening it.

"Hi," she said with a bright smile.

"There are, are you willing to take them?"

He looked at her and closed his eyes, then opened them.

"I care for you already, Anya, in fact, am very close to loving you. But I need to know if this is going to be a deal breaker. I want to be with you. It's your choice."

"I..." Anya looked down, giving herself a moment to take this all in. 'Deal breaker.'It was a harsh turn of phrase, but she had to work through this. "I want to be with you too.."

She took a deep breath. "It is a deal breaker," she said, then added "but listen. Warren and I dated for a few years. We'd talked about kids, and he told me he wanted to be a father. We got engaged, and we had a.. well, I suppose you'd call it a pregnancy 'scare'.. Warren did. It turned out I wasn't, but Warren realized that he couldn't handle it. He told me he couldn't be a father."

She frowned, looking back up at Hank. "But Warren wouldn't have been any less afraid if we had been talking about adopting. He didn't want to be a father. I.. I would rather have my own child biologically than adopt, yes. But I'm open to options."

"If this is something we both want, we can make it work."

He winced at her first words.

"I would like to have children, but biologically, for me, anyway, is out without being sure I don't consign them to a never ending chain of mutations. Adoption would be something I would be willing to do, with you by my side."

She let out a breath. It felt like she'd been holding it for minutes.

"Then let's not rush things and just.. relax and enjoy dinner?" She gave him a small, hopeful smile. She really wanted things to work.

He smiled, a little wary, but a smile.

"Dinner sounds good."

he drew a breath.

"What is on the menu tonight, oh hostess?"
