Who: Lois and Jason
What: mother and son talking
Where: apartment in London
When: nowish?

Lois had not slept well the night after she'd argued with Clark. She'd tossed and turned most of the night and finally arisen early in the morning.

After not having her son around for a year and a half, it was... almost odd to have someone else to take care of again. At the same time, it felt natural, and she found herself easily slipping back into mothering habits. What was really the odd thing was that he wasn't five years old anymore and didn't need constant monitoring. Still, she checked on a sleeping Jason quietly, then left a note for him that she'd gone into work early, there was food in the fridge, and he'd better go to school. She was pretty sure he'd heard her moving around, what with him having super hearing, but he didn't react to her leaving. It was a relief. She wasn't looking forward to questions from him on why she was upset and where was his father.

Lack of sleep and stress over all the new changes, Jason being 10 years older, the situation with moving, and the misunderstandings with Clark made her grumpier than ever. Even coffee didn't improve her mood. She went into work extra early, intending to get more work done, but it only reminded her that she wasn't working at the Planet and couldn't pursue anything on that venture without Clark. It wouldn't be fair.

Her foul mood did not go unnoticed by her co-workers. She snapped at people, ignored others, and the rest generally stayed out of her way. Homesickness for the Daily Planet and Perry and Jimmy and the rest of the regular faces was hitting her hard. She'd been able to keep it at bay while no one she knew was here.

But now that she'd had a taste of home with Clark and Jason, she wanted the rest. She wanted it all. She thought she'd moved on from wanting to go home, but realized now homesickness would always come back. She missed Metropolis and the Daily Planet and that little deli place where she always got lunch and Jimmy and Richard and Perry and picking Jason up from school and working with Clark, oh, how she missed working on stories with Clark...

She saw Superman on TV once. It calmed her down a little to know that he hadn't fled the planet again. Somehow, she made it through the day without killing anyone. She tried calling Clark, once, on her way home. She had no idea what she would say if he answered, but she tried anyway. It rang and rang, until going to his voicemail. She wasn't sure whether to feel disappointment or relief. You thought he was going to pick up right away, Lane? After what you said to him? What do you think you can say now that will change things? Lois flipped her phone shut without leaving a message. She'd try again later, in a day or two. Hopefully he didn't completely hate her.

If it hadn't been for Jason, she wouldn't have bothered to go home until close to midnight. Instead, she got home around 6. This apartment really was too small for both of them. "Jason?" she called as she tossed her keys on the side table.

Lois blinks and stares, unable to believe this is really her son. Her son who has, apparently, perfected superspeed. Even through her surprise, there's a little smile on her face and the look of a proud mother shows more and more.

She barely registers the flour on his face before he's off again, and she can barely keep track. She can see a bit of the Smallville Clark's traits in Jason and wonders if her Clark was like this as a teenager, and what Martha had to deal with... she wishes to the powers that be that Martha was here. At least Lisa knows what it's like to suddenly have a superpowered teenager, and Lois can talk to her.

By the time Jason gives her flowers, she's smiling. She takes the flowers and watches him speed off again. Her horrible day seems insignificant next to what she's seeing. Tears sting at her eyes, because she can't believe her son is here after she waited for so long, and he grew up to be so capable and strong and got her flowers, and he's cooking... wait. Hopefully he got cooking skills from Clark. Or Richard, if Jason had grown up knowing Richard too. Carefully, she enters the kitchen to see what he's up to. She hasn't said a word, but just watches Jason happily.

The kitchen seems to shift back and forth from being a mess to being spotless. Sections of it seem to be cluttered and swarmed with dishes. Then something blurs past and it's all clean. There's a practical use for super speed after all.

"Dinner's almost ready." is quipped in his mother's ear as Jason stops next to her. He plants a quick kiss on her cheek, before blurring off to set the table.

The next time he's still, he's walking to the fridge, holding the carton of eggs fairly carefully.

"Gotta' be careful with eggs."

The kitchen smells like he's cooking some kind of multi-layered steak extravaganza with a multitude of different sides littering the top of the stove.

Lois knows now he got his cooking skills from the Kents and Clark. "You're making dinner," she states the obvious but it's in gratitude and surprise. "Do you usually do this?"

She wants to hug him but he's moving too fast. So when he slows down to take the eggs to the fridge (what messy incident led to him being careful, she's not sure she wants to know), she goes over and hugs him tightly before he can rush off again.

Lois may not have superstrength, but it almost seems like it with the way she's holding on. "I love you, Jason," she says, in only a voice a slightly choked up mother could have. She kisses his cheek and pulling back only far enough to study his face. "I hope I told you that every day when you were growing up."
