Sable reaches out and, one by one, scruffs Cass's hair, strokes Soren's cheek, and gives Henn a playful boobsqueeze.
"The point isn't to make anyone hurt. If it does that too much, it means someone... maybe all of us... needs to work on something. The point is... we can't all be quiet about things we want or need or are bothered by just because we're afraid it might hurt someone else. And I know, Cass -- I love my husband as much as you do. But there's three of us here and one of him. We'll sit on him if the bits he can't control override the bits he can."
She looks around to all of them. "I'll even start. This is how we have to do things where I come from. There's no room for gentleness, no room for diplomacy, no room for anything but the facts. I don't want to hurt any of you. I will never, never want to hurt any of you. I just think... if this is going to work, we have to be able to speak freely to one another, and learn that criticism doesn't make love mean less. Love is all. Life... life takes work. I'll show you how we do it when we have meetings like this on the road..."
She takes breath and holds it, thoughtful for a few moments. "I'll just say one thing to one person. It's easier that way. I'll start with Cass. When I was growing up, the way we did it was... we had a rule that whatever anyone said, the person it was said to had to at least acknowledge what was said, and could answer or not if they wanted. The point is to make all our issues known, somewhere we all can hear the problems and think about them and if anyone wants, they can offer advice later, or talk about it in private, but bringing things up like this is done so we can all sort of look after one another and make sure we're all doing all right with any problems we might have. Right? Okay. So... Cass."
Sable lets go of Soren's leg so she can take Cass's hands in her own, and show them all how road people solve problems they have. "Cass... I get really frustrated with how much you micromanage the environment. I know you feel like you NEED to, but I'm always afraid I'm going to put something in the wrong place and make you angry... or you'll disappear into your room. I know you need things, but it scares me when you go away like that... and when you're mad at me."
She says all this holding her eyes mostly to Cass's, and holding his hands. And when she's done, she looks away shyly. "See... now um... Now cass can answer me if he wants, or not. and then it's his turn to say something to someone."
