Sophie, for her part, did smile. "Hi," she said, her voice sounding lame to her. She sat down on the bench, leaving a foot of space between them. "You don't have to be nervous," she said, but her own nervousness made the words less comforting than she would've liked them to be.
She looked down at her shoes, contemplating the best way to go about this. She should've rehearsed a starting point. "I.. I should probably talk first. Since I asked you to meet me and stuff." And if he said something to throw her off, she might wind up unable to say anything.
