When Sam was happy and/or feeling touchy-feely, Anne found herself the object of squeezy hugs and being lifted off the ground a lot. She loved it. It was a good thing that, in her natural state, she didn't weigh much at all, because she wasn't sure how Sam would have faired had she weighed what she should. She was tiny but she wasn't THAT tiny. The whole thing made her giggle.
"It's not your birthday yet," she said around her laughter, hugging him tightly. "This doesn't count. There are gifts to come."
Of course, that's when Selena walked in with a tray covered in fruit and yogurt, water and juice. The tray went on the small table next to the bed and the woman bowed. Anne grinned at her. "Selena, you remember Sam?"
The older woman, nodded and raised her head. "I do. Welcome back to Troy."
Anne said, "Tomorrow is Sam's birthday. Will you tell the kitchen to prepare accordingly?" The woman nodded. "Thank you." As Selena left, Anne looked at him. "Not QUITE a traditional birthday cake, but you'll see." Motioning to the tray, "Were you hungry or did you want to go swimming?"
