Sam crossed back to her, slowly. He cupped her cheek with one hand and kissed her deeply, taking his time to get it just right.

"Love you." he murmured. He lowered himself to the ground, onto one knee and pulled out the small black velvet box he'd been hiding, it seemed, forever. "Marry me? You're all I want, Anne. Just you, and our family. I don't think I could love you more if I tried and I just..." he stopped for a second, regrouped and tried to swallow his thumping heart back down.
"Will you marry me?" The box opened to reveal a simple, but elegant engagement ring. Something Sam would pick out with Anne in mind.
