Warnings: um? Copious amounts of teenage boy-ness, with a side helping of 'OMG, people expect me to be perfect!'

The sun was just starting to go down when Darius opened his second beer of the evening. He enjoyed hanging out with Scott. When he drank with Nathan, he could never keep up. But with Scott the drinking was secondary, instead of a learned defence against the horrors of his life.

At least for the moment. He leaned back in his lawn chair, a lazy semi-smile on his face. "Told you Spain has the hottest women." Ah, the joys of being a world traveler.

Scott was enjoying himself, and glad that Darius was as well. He had flown out, rather than portkeyed, and enjoyed the luxurious executive class conditions. Here, in Spain, he was picking up a present for Waverly, and spending a few days with the wandering guy.

He liked Darius, who was more like a best friend than a son, and he liked being able to help him.

He snorted.

"Right. Sorry, but no."

He thought for a minute. "I portkeyed while I was stoned, and ate more than I could afford to pay for at a restaurant in France, so they made me pick grapes for their house wines for a day. Um, then I was kidnapped by Nathan, and wound up playing poker with everyone there. Nathan and Domino won most of the time, but Lorna's victory dance for her single success more than made up for it."

He laughed a little at the mental image. "Then I went to Scotland, decided it was still boring, and tried Japan instead. Think I'm headed toward Hong Kong next."

"I don't think I'm looking for anything. I mean. . . I just need to get my head on straight. I think putting some distance between me and the craziness that surrounds any grouping of our family members seems like a good idea. I'll still work for you, of course, but I think the time off will do me good."

He put his empty beer bottle in the can they'd brought for empties. "Want another round, or should we pack it up and go watch some movies?"
