He'd been just about to call it a day, and close up the confession, and the church proper. He wasn't annoyed by the arrival of a straggler, it wasn't in his nature to get annoyed with people, at least not often.
If he recognised her voice, he didn't let on. He believed in the ritual, and the privacy of the confession. He offered a short reading of scripture before inviting the sinner to confess her sins.
