Reinette couldn't help but lean into the touch briefly. It was as if, when he touched her, all she felt was him. The rest of it faded away, and she could focus on just him.
"Do not apologise, Doctor," she said, closing her eyes and smiling softly as he kissed her head. "It is hardly your fault. And, in some way, I feel as though I can understand you better now. To have felt this for so long...you are truly an extraordinary man." She looked up with determination. "I will learn to manage this. There is no other alternative."
She took his hand in hers for a moment. "Thank you, my Doctor," she said.
