Entry tags:damon salvatore, johanna barker

Who: Johanna Barker & Damon Salvatore
Where: London
When: Wednesday evening-ish
Why: Johanna's giving Damon a tour of Old London.
Warnings: Not likely they made dinner out of some thugs, kinda messy.

Johanna arrived on the streetcorner not far from the portkey not long after she said she would. Her hair was tied back, just to keep it out of her face, really, and she was wearing a dress. Neither of these things were really remarkable, as she did them often.

She had an umbrella tucked under her arm, since it was predicted to rain, and she was wearing a coat, not because she needed one, but because she didn't want to stand out by not having one when the weather called for it.

She was much more at ease amid the bustling traffic now than she had been when she'd first arrived, she still wasn't wholly comfortable with it, but she fit in well enough, and knew she had nothing to fear from it.

Damon had fed well on the woman he'd woken up next to, and smiled as he got to use his Powers for the first time in a new world. He shifted into a crow, flying upward fast and strong as he flew to the address Johanna had given him. He spotted her blonde hair and swooped into an alley behind her to change back. He walked toward her, still straightening his jacket. "Johanna?"

She smiled, dipping a quick curtsy, "I am, and you must be Damon." She straightened again, smoothing her skirt with a practiced, almost instinctive ease, "Do you know where you'd like to start? I tend to go along the river first instead of last, don't get caught amid the riff-raff after dark that way."

He took her hand and kissed it carefully, lips barely touching a knuckle. "I am. I'd like to walk near the water with you, but I'll protect you from any riffraff, I can assure you." His eyes widened when he noticed her necklace, reaching out to take it between his fingers. "I - are you sure you're not Katherine?"

"Quite certain, yes." It would, of course, be easy to mistake the two, but Johanna was a born Londoner, she fit in the city even though it was some decades after her own time.

Her smile quirked then, "And I'm fairly sure that I can handle the riff-faff myself, but I won't object to help, if you're up to it."

Damon shook his head, still amazed that Katherine could affect him, even after so many years. He offered Johanna his arm, but let her guide the walk. "I'm a bit old-fashioned, you'll have to pardon me."

"No pardons needed." She said with a smile, shifting the umbrella to the other side so that she could take the offered arm, waiting for the crosswalk to change before continuing on towards the river, "I don't mind it, more people ought to be, if you ask me. So we're at the edge, here, of what I know best and what I'm still learning. I grew up here, see, haven't checked to see if the building's still there, haven't had reason to, really."

"Well, I'm older than I look," Damon quipped. He tossed his hair a little, looking around and taking in the sights. "Well, let's go check. No time like the present."

"I'll be sorely tempted to burn it to the ground if it is." She said, her tone calm, utterly matter-of-fact, and almost sweet.

Most of the vendors were closing up shop by the time they got to the river, aside from a few stragglers who usually kept their stalls open until well after dark. Johanna couldn't help but smile at this, shaking her head, "It's different, walking the streets than it is seeing them from above, but I still know them as well as I did then."

"I won't stop you if you need to," Damon smiled. He watched her, noticing how much sharper and feral she was than Katherine. "From above? Could you fly?" He said it firmly tongue-in-cheek.

She smiled at that, "Well I'm glad you approve at least. Though I sincerely doubt local law enforcement would." Not that this was much of a deterrent for her either, of course.

"Couldn't fly, no, not then. Though I often wished I could." She shrugged, "I was kept in a tower, so to speak."

"Ah, the police. Don't worry, they're easily influenced." He winked at her and listened to her story, shaking his head. "I'm sorry to hear that. Cages aren't any place for birds."

"I'm quite sure that I could get away with murder, if I smiled sweetly enough." She actually grinned at the statement however, "I'm glad you've enough sense to see that. And I'd wager that you can understand why I'd rather see it burn."

The smile was half-playful then, brow arching, "I'm game if you are."

"Let's find other, more interesting things to do before we resort to petty arson, shall we? I only just got here, I'd rather not have to exhaust myself with the police just yet." He kissed her on the forehead. Damon wasn't merely teasing; he really didn't feel like expending his Powers on the police for something that wasn't really his business.

There was another laugh at that, bright and high, shaking her head, "You've got a point. Besides, best to save that sort of thing for when you've actually got a plan."

She shrugged, "Can at least see if it's still standing, anyway, thing of it as reconnaissance while we're on the walking tour."

"Precisely. So, tour guide, where are we?" He liked her laugh, and wondered who she was, what her story was.

"Whitechapel." She said, though it was followed with a shrug, "Or close enough. Neighborhood's changed a little from my time, but not enough that anyone would notice."

The smile was almost-predatory again, "Would you like to stay along the mai thoroughfares, or along the walks that I always thought were mine alone?"

"I'd like to see the town as you saw it. Perhaps one day, we'll visit my home and see if things have changed much." He returned her smile with one of his own, just as sharp.

She nodded, turning around the corner of the next building, it wasn't into an alley just yet, but it was a narrower walk, pavement giving way to cobblestones before long, "There used to be flower carts along this street, there may still be during the day, or on carnival weekends."

Damon smiled a little, toying with her hair. "Somehow, I get the feeling that you're older than you seem." It was ironic coming from him, but true.

She shook her head, turning again, into a proper London alley this time, "Not really, I'm just from an earlier time, that's all. The storm brings people from all sorts of places and any conceivable year."

"And when are you from?" He was curious about this, but it stood to reason. He was almost twenty years ahead of when he thought it should be.

"Only shortly before Whitechapel became famous." She said, smiling. This could be ten years, it could be twenty, and was, in fact, closer to eighty.

Her brow arched, just continuing along at an easy pace, taking turns and through-ways on some internal map of her own, very like a bird navigating by true north, "You do know what Whitechapel's famous for don't you?"

"Oh, yes," Damon grinned. "But I'm not the Ripper, and you're not a lady of ill repute." He continued along with her, chuckling a little at how young she seemed for someone almost as old as he, when he heard footsteps. They were tentative, trying to be quiet, and he hushed Johanna with a finger to her lips.

Her head had tilted, having caught the footsteps herself, but she was well aware she could handle anything the city chose to throw at her.

She cocked her head, looking more birdlike than she had any real right to, brow creasing as she counted, finally holding up three fingers, tentatively followed by a fourth.

Damon chuckled and nodded, taking off his jacket and setting it down on a relatively clean looking pile of wood. If he was going to eat, he'd rather not get blood on cashmere.

He waited for the first to round the corner, armed and obnoxiously ready to use his weapon. He started to wave the gun around before Damon was on him, baring his fangs and drinking from him fast and hard, even as he snapped the neck of another.
