Who: Logan and Darius Summers
Where: Frost Mansion, in the morning
Warnings: Just awkwardness

The girls had left for school and he'd fed Esme breakfast. The toddler was now in front of the TV watching cartoons and playing with her toys. Logan was enjoying the quiet that came with Esme being glued to the television program.

Logan sat at the kitchen table, his chair turned so that he could keep an eye on the baby. He had a large dumbbell and was doing arm curls with one hand as he lifted a beer bottle to his lips with the other.

Darius padded downstairs, his eyes still red from his late night. He'd spent the majority of it out with Ophelia, hoping to outlast Sophie's ability to stay conscious long enough for her to forget why that mattered.

But he had failed the previous night. He flinched a little when he saw Logan, but didn't say anything. Breakfast was much more important.

Logan raised an eyebrow at the kid's appearance. "Late night?" he commented gruffly. He put down the beer and switched the weight to the other hand.

It wasn't really his place to tell the kid what to do. Emma made the rules. Logan was the enforcer. But in Darius' case, he wasn't quite sure what the rules were.

"Time zones. It's really hard being five timezones ahead of your girlfriend."

He took the gallon of milk out of the fridge, eying Logan for a minute. The urge to shudder was intense. "Starting early on the beer, huh? Where's the little princess?'

The sound of the cartoons in the other room told him, but small talk was good! He just wasn't very good at it.

It wasn't like Logan ever got drunk, really. He drank beer because it was there and he liked the taste. Didn't taste any different at 11am than it did at 8pm.

He nodded toward the living room where Esme was sitting. He had a perfectly good view of the toddler, and would be at her side in an instant if she even made a funny sound. He was a good daddy. Most of the time he forgot that Esme wasn't really his.

"Girlfriend, huh?"

Darius peeked in on her, not because he doubted Logan, or his ability to watch the girl, but because it was neat having a little sister.

"You tell me. You're the supernose." His tone was even. Honestly, he had no idea what Ophelia was, really, but girlfriend was the closest approximation. "D'you know when Mom's going to be back?" He was annoyed that Sophie had gotten past his shields, and curious how she did it. Also, a morbid part of him wondered how accurate her image of Logan had been, and how the hell Sophie knew that.

He poured himself some cereal and entertained the idea of plopping down next to Esme. But the table was more comfortable, and he had gotten used to dealing with Logan as an authority figure. He just wished the damn mental image would go away.

Logan raised a brow in and just grunted, looking back at his beer. He didn't pay much attention to where Darius went or who he spent time with. He kept a much closer eye on the girls, but Darius was a little older and could handle himself. Darius wasn't 'his' the way that Rose and Esme were, and Sophie was starting to become.. He didn't really need to know who the kid was hanging out with, as long as it wasn't some super villain.

He shrugged. "Usually around four. Don't think she has any meetings today." Kid was acting weird.

"'kay.Darius thought a bit, reviewing his schedule for the day in his head. He only had the shaolin kung fu class today. He could do all the stuffhe'd wanted to do (beside throttling Sophie), and still get back before Emma.

Perfect.

He was never going to get that stupid image out of his hed. He pointedly avoided looking at logan, wondering when the man would catch on. Though he wasn't a genius, he was good at reading people, and Darius was too damn tired to act more naturally. "Anything interesting planned for the day?"

Logan had definitely noticed Darius' weird behavior. He was just trying to figure out if he cared enough to comment.

"Thought I might paint myself blue and try out for that group," he said, watching Darius with a raised brow.

"The Watchmen?"

oh, ow. Why had he seen that horrible, horrible movie? Why was this image stuck so profoundly in his head. "You'd have to shave first."

"Was thinking that music group, but there's a thought." Kid was acting weird. That bad joke really didn't deserve follow up comments. He'd just been trying to jerk the kid back into acting somewhat normal. Then he went and said something weird about shaving. He was looking at Darius like he'd grown a second head.

"You'd have to pretend to be interested in a lifeless model, though." His tone was grumpy. He was going to kill Sophie. Just kill her dead.

Logan raised a brow. There were a few answers he could say to that. None of them were safe. The dangers of living among telepaths. "Now you're just trying to get me in trouble."

Darius shook his head. "Nope. I've got enough people pissed at me in this place already. How do you deal with it when you piss Mom off?"

Logan had to have a strategy, and maybe it would help Darius out in his dealings with Sophie.

Logan raised a brow. "I try not to," he said. That was the first line of defense. He hmm'd to himself, thinking of what else he did. Strategy on the battlefield was easy to sum up, but he played this relationship-thing by ear most of the time.

There had been a few times when he'd done or thought something stupid and Emma had made him suffer for it. Those had been before they'd gotten serious, though. And at least one of them had been for his own good, even though it hadn't felt that way at the time.

He shrugged. Even if Emma was really upset, he was sure she wouldn't do any lasting damage to him. "Try not to," he said again. "And if I do, guess I just let it run it's course and try to stay off her radar. No use poking an angry bear with a stick unless you're gonna kill it." Proverbs today would have been a lot different if Logan had had Confucious' following.

"See, that doesn't help out at the moment." But that was, in general, Darius's way of handling things. "It might have been a good thing to think about a few days ago."

The only way he was staying off of Sophie's radar was to not run into her until he'd stopped being angry. He seemed to have no control over his mouth, and that wasn't so great around his very sensitive sister.

Logan just shrugged. He wasn't really sure he wanted to know what was going on. Who the kid had pissed off and what had happened.. Not really Logan's job to interfere in that sort of thing.

"There's another beer in the fridge," he offered instead.

Darius thought about that for a minute. "Yeah, alright." When coffee is inadequate, sometimes beer can be a temporary fix on the path to the solution.

Or something. Maybe he would stop seeing Logan naked in his head. That was all he really wanted. He stood and took his empty bowl to the sink, grabbing a beer from the fridge.

It was a bonding thing. Easiest way for Logan to relate to people he didn't have a lot in common with. Things had always been pretty awkward between them, and today was ten times worse than usual, for some reason. Drinking could only make it better.

Drinking made everything better when it came to dealing with people. Darius wasn't normally that great at it anyway. He had no clue what to do with this version of Logan. But things were relatively peaceful between them, so he let that stand. He had no intention of making either of their lives more uncomfortable than they had to be.

He drank his beer in silence, watching the television intermittently. Soon he found the program completely engrossing, and he parked next to Esme, ruffling her hair to annoy her.
