Lorne felt a little foolish, skulking around the street, searching for the portkey. He really hoped that it would work. His luck since arriving in this insane new place had not been stellar. He'd called his replacee's girlfriend his mom, and had since been sleeping on the couch.
Which was fine, because she was old enough to be his mom. It terrified him, a little. He prayed he wasn't married.
He almost couldn't concentrate on the thought of LA. It felt like his life had come down around his ears. But seeing Alexa would fix that, he was sure. Just thinking about her calmed him, and he thought of how her hair would look in the bright California sunshine.
The next sensation was rather like being dropped from an airplane. It only lasted an instant, though, and he staggered as it stopped, squinting against the sun, out of place in his heavy winter coat.
