One quality to that was enjoyable about the house was the amount of open space that could be found inside. True, Charlie had voiced this thought on several occasions, but that didn't mean he had grown tired of it. Images of the small prison cell frequently flashed within his mind which in turn always made him appreciate a place such as this. The walls (for the most part) were blank and that was something else which tended to bring a smile to his lips. As strange as it was he could appreciate the blankness of it all. The smooth surface was like a new beginning.
New beginnings didn't mean that he forgot about the past though. But for the moment he was more than content to work on preparing a meal to share with Reese. She had been both his partner and his friend before but living together was adding a new spin to things. You picked up on the little nuances in a person's life that were usually left out of the office. In this case he was starting to become more familiar with Dani outside of being a police officer. It went both ways though and that made Charlie a little uncomfortable. He was pretty private about certain things.
For now he was busy chopping vegetables and dealing with his thoughts. If he had replaced someone then it had been for a reason; which meant Reese had replaced someone for a reason as well. That alone was intriguing enough and even more so when he went deeper. The two people they replaced were obviously intimate. That was the thought that had been ever present in mind. What did it really mean? He didn't know. But Charlie now had time to think which brought back a measure of comfort.
Dinner was a small step to see what was going on. He wanted to talk to Reese because she brought a stark contrast to his approach. Maybe he was missing something that she could clue him in on. Or maybe she was starting to see past his normally up beat attitude to focus on his still troubled humanity.
