Jon flew his books home at breakneck speeds and grabbed his bag of clothes before rushing back across the Atlantic. London hadn't changed much in the few minutes he'd been gone, except that it was soon to have one fewer resident.

He flew over the city to find the now familiar building that housed his girlfriend (girlfriend! whee!) and landed. He knocked on the door, making absolutely no attempt to show himself as anything besides super excited.

	Rei had packed a bag of clothes and toiletries, and was trying not to bounce around her bedroom. She heard the knock on the door and all but scrambled to answer it, biting her lip and grinning at her boyfriend (which still made her giggle to think about). "Hi." (Reply to this) (Thread)

"Hi. Ready to go?" There should have been something weird about being a mode of transport, but there wasn't. He didn't mind taking Rei anywhere she wanted to go. Besides, he was environmentally safe. Jon had only ridden in an automobile twice in the last year, and with a boy more than willing to hold her tight to his body as he flew around, she'd never need to buy a plane ticket as long as she knew him.

"You look nice," he added. It was always true.

Rei nodded, blushing faintly at his compliment. "You too." She was actually excited to go back to Tokyo; if it was an alternate universe, there could be huge differences. She almost hoped there would be. If it was too similar, she'd start to miss Usagi and Makoto and Ami and Minako.

She slung her pack over her shoulders, squeezing his hand as she locked the door. "Thank you for taking me. In advance." She didn't know if it was appropriate, but she'd never had a friend that doubled as an airplane before, much less a boyfriend.

"You're welcome. You're always welcome. This is going to be fun." Ever since Apocalypse's attack, he'd missed fun. Right now, he was in desperate need of it. And traveling to a foreign country (well, okay, foreign for him) was romantic as all hell.

He gave her hand a squeeze and then bent down to pick her up. "Hold on tight, we're going to be going pretty fast." Japan was about six thousand miles away. He could actually get there in fifteen minutes (faster still if he flew alone) but he wasn't completely sure if she would be safe at speeds like that. Six thousand miles an hour was pretty fast as it was. "We'll be there in an hour or so."

A passerby or two may have noticed a boy floating into the air holding a girl, but by the time they looked back, he was long gone.

Rei couldn't help it, and nuzzled her face a bit into the crook of his neck during takeoff. She trusted him, but the sensation of rising so high so fast was a bit disconcerting. She'd be okay once they were going at a steady rate.

After a few moments, her brain clicked everything into place. It was all so improbable - her with a superhero boyfriend! - and she was vaguely glad that Usagi wasn't there to squeal her ears off.

"An hour is amazing. Is there anything specific you want to do while we're there?"

Jon was probably a bad person for thinking like this, but he loved how she was inclined to grip tightly and press her face against him when they flew. The cliché was that boys took their girlfriends to see scary movies so that they would cling, but those boys were landlocked. The real way to a girl's heart and skin was through flying.

"I haven't given much thought to it, to be honest. I love Japan, but most of the big deal is the fact that I'm going there with you."

Rei wondered how it was that they'd gotten so close in so short a time, but then she remembered Usagi and Mamoru. Past lives influenced the present, and as much as she hated to admit that possibility, maybe Jon was someone she'd known and cared about before. Besides - disasters usually brought people closer together.

"I'm glad we're going together as well. I haven't shown anyone around before. I think it will be more fun this way." She noticed how tightly she was clinging to him, and she relaxed her arms a tiny bit.

I can show you the world... shining, shimmering, splendid... God, I really am a girl, Jon thought. But they really had grown close. Part of it was chemistry, the way they'd just clicked when they met, but no small amount of it came from leaning on her in the hospital.

"Huh." They'd been flying for maybe ten minutes when he noticed that the sky was starting to get darker. He checked his watch, a bit confused. Then he realized that he was in Western Asia. "Oh, time zones! I forgot about time zones! Wow, it's going to be like... 1:30 in the morning by the time we get to Tokyo."

	Rei blinked and then couldn't help but laugh. "I forgot as well, it's not a worry. We can get a room and sleep for a while, or watch television. I didn't watch much television even when I lived here, so that would interest me." She squeezed his hand, pecking him slightly on the cheek. Jon was at his most adorable when he was flustered. "Yeah, Tokyo's a big place. They're probably used to people all jet-lagged and checking in at all hours." Jon slowed his flight and stopped, floating a few miles over what he was reasonably sure was Kazakhstan. The laws of physics objected when he went from six thousand miles an hour to zero in an instant without suffering from horrible side-effects, but they were overruled.

"Look," he said, pointing to the east. The sun was setting in the distance, the kind of sunset that made the end of the day seem like the best part of it. "Isn't it beautiful?"

Rei couldn't help smiling broadly and nodding. "It's... not something I thought I'd ever see." There was something to be said for seeing a sunset from so high up - it was huge, and the colors were more vivid than she remembered.

"Thank you." She meant for everything, but she wanted to say it anyway. It didn't seem like enough to convey what she wanted to say, but it was a start.

"Anytime." And he meant that literally; anytime she wanted to see a sunset, he was there. Jon Kent Airlines. "I've always thought it would be weird, doing something like this. Flying with a girl. I've thought about it, but back home my identity was a big deal. But with you... It's pretty normal, I guess."

With the way he was holding her, it was somewhat difficult to hug her anymore than he was. He tried anyway.

	She hugged him back tightly, smiling. "Mine was too. Nobody was allowed to know I was a solider except for the other soldiers. 	When Rei hugged Jon, he let his arms slacken a bit. And then when she kissed him, he was more than a bit shocked, so his arms loosened a bit more. He didn't so much drop her as let her slide out of his grip. She couldn't have been falling for more than a second before he caught her. "Sorry! I'm so sorry! I don't... yeah. I suck. 	Rei couldn't help laughing. "I'm fine! I'm - I won't do that again while we're flying." She was surprised to find herself doing it again anyway, as if to tempt fate and see if he'd drop her yet again. 	Jon was blushing pretty hard. "Just give a warning. 'Hey, Jon, I'm going to kiss you.' So yes. We should probably get to Tokyo where you can stand on solid ground and not have to rely on me. Wow." "I'm glad you're not holding a grudge about that. You probably do owe me a little toast on the backside." He would probably get used to the whole "carrying your girlfriend to the other side of the world" thing sooner or later. For now, dropping her was about the biggest faux pas he could think of.

Jon increased his speed a bit, so that even from their distance above the ground it was a blur. "It's kind of funny, when you think about it. A few billion girls in the world, and I end up liking the one who can kick my ass."

"I wouldn't. I'm actually really good at controlling my powers. Luna made us train constantly." She'd actually sort of enjoyed that part, although Usagi's constant whining about it hadn't been that enjoyable at the time.

"And I won't ever burn you. Unless you're frozen somehow. But that's not so much burning as melting." She took the time to watch the bluring world beneath her, smiling and humming a bit to herself. She was content. It had been a rarity before, and she was glad that she was going to get to feel it more often.

"I trust you." It probably wouldn't have been too necessary, anyway. She was a firebug, but he was the Swiss Army Knife of superheroes; he could handle getting himself unfrozen. Besides, he hung out in space without any bad effects. How much colder was he likely to be?

It was night now, and they still had a little way to go. Flying over China probably should have made him more nervous than it did, but if there was a radar that could sense him at the speed he was moving, China was up to some serious overclocking.

	"I'm glad." She watched the sky get darker, as it was one of the few things she could watch without getting a bit dizzy. Eventually she settled for closing her eyes and burying her head in his shirt, mumbling against the cotton. She smiled a little and thought about how there were much worse ways to fly. "Not far now. I can see it." He kicked on an extra burst of speed. Jon hated crossing over China. It wasn't that it was at all likely that he was going to get shot out of the sky, but there was something intensely uncomfortable about it. Like walking on a bridge with no guard rail.

They passed over the Sea of Japan and were soon flying over Japanese ground. "Welcome home, Rei." He slowed down as they approached Tokyo. They were a few thousand feet above the tallest building, but it was like a sea of bright lights below them.

	Rei looked down and couldn't stop from squealing in delight. "It's beautiful. I've never seen it this way before." She couldn't help but notice how dark it was and she blinked. Jon landed not far from a hotel, out of sight of the nightlife still walking around. "I made reservations! It was fun. People always get confused when you're speaking in Japanese and then slip back into English to give them your name. 'Watashi no namae wa JON KENT desu!' I think they'd have preferred for me to speak in English, just so they knew it was coming."

Jon put Rei down and took her hand. "Come on, let's go check it out."

Rei laughed at his exuberance, squeezing his hand and following him. "It's just probably confusing, because you speak it so well. It was unexpected."

She thought about how thoughtful and sweet he was, and felt incredibly lucky. He was kind and thoughtful and handsome. It made her smile, and she moved to stand in front of him, tugging downward on his lapel to bring him toward her for a kiss.
