Who: Older Anakin Solo and Baby Rahne
What: Disney movies
Where: X-Factor
Warnings: Excessively adorable Baby Rahne.

One of the first things Anakin noticed was that Rahne was a much less messy eater than a five year old should have been. He could only assume she'd been eating ice cream more or less nonstop for however long Jamie had been there, and Jamie was definitely missed his mouth more than Rahne had.

Evidently, Nemo had been found, and the story was winding down. Rahne's eyes remained fixed to the screen, but Jamie seemed to be dying of some exotic disease and trying to escape from his own skin. After the sheer volume of Disney that Anakin had been subjected to over the years, he wasn't surprised. He sat down on the couch with Rahne. "Hi. Do you mind if I watch some movies with you? Jamie has to go do some work for a little while."

Jamie did his best not to peel out of there, but it was a near thing. "Yeah. I'll be back in a... I'll be back." Jamie walked slowly out of the room, then once he was out of sight tore up the stairs. There was the sound of falling, then a chorus of voices swearing at once, then the strange sound of multiple people becoming one again.

Rahne broke her gaze at the TV to look up at Anakin. She turned to Jamie to see if it was okay, and he seemed to look pretty happy about it. "Okay.. Bye Jamie," she said, waving to him.

She seemed a little nervous at first with the new person, but Jamie was okay with it. She thought for a minute, trying to remember what she had read earlier. "You're Ani, right?"

Rahne looked a little confused by the sound, but her attention quickly returned to Anakin, though she was watching the movie out of the corner of her eye. Maybe a little more than the corner.

"That's right." At a certain age, he just got used to being called Ani. "And you're Rahne, unless there's another red-haired Scottish girl hiding under the couch." Mutants--or so Anakin had been told--didn't develop their abilities until puberty. So why was he afraid of her like he thought she would bite?

It was normal enough to hope his girlfriend liked him, he supposed, but this might have pushed it into strange territories. "After this movie is over, what would you like to watch next?" he said, idly hoping that this was the right thing to say. It would be a terrible thing when the twins were old enough to talk. He'd never know what to say.

Rahne smiled a little when he said her name. He was funny like Jamie was funny. "No. Just me and the bear," she said, pointing at the giant teddy bear that was sitting on the end of the couch. Guido hadn't told her the bear's name, and she wasn't really one for naming things. She wasn't given much creative freedom at home.

"Um.. I dinna know," she said carefully. "I havenae seen any of those." The stack of movies that Jamie had found were from the future. Not that she had seen many movies from her own time, either. "Which do ye want t'watch?" She climbed off of the couch and retrieved the stack of skinny tapes to look through. She deposited them on Anakin's lap and reclaimed her place on the couch.

She was nice. The term was probably well-behaved, but that sort of thing got Anakin to thinking why she would be so well-behaved, and that was a dark path to go down. A path that resulted in a decapitated reverend and a long period of introspection. He shook the dark thoughts out of his head and picked a movie out of the bunch.

"I haven't seen a lot of these. I'm from... far, far away. But I think that you'll like this one." It probably said a lot about Anakin that he picked the one with the wolf on the cover for no other reason than because there was a wolf on the cover.

"Okay!" she said, sounding cheerful. She was starting to think of this as a really fun vacation. She didn't know how to work the movie, so she let Anakin get it set up. She pulled the teddy bear a little closer to her, petting the soft fur on it's paw. "Does this one have music?" she asked Anakin.

Through the window they could see the sun duck behind some clouds. Suddenly it seemed cooler in the room. And Rahne had been eating all of that ice cream. "Are there any blankets I can use?" she asked.

"Aye, they all have music. You'll probably be able to sing along before too long." Anakin came very close to pulling a blanket to him telekinetically, but caught himself at the last second. Instead, he got up and went to the closet like a sensible person instead of scaring the little girl. "Here you--oof!" Seven years later, someone besides Jamie would be responsible for putting things away, but today, Anakin was quickly buried in a pile of blankets and odds and ends.

Anakin stood up and brushed off his clothes, then retrieved the topmost blanket before stuffing the rest back into the closet as best he could. He covered Rahne with the blanket and sat beside her. "This one's about a wolf, I think."

Rahne giggled when all the blankets tumbled down on Anakin. She covered her mouth, trying to hold back the laughter but it slipped through her fingers. She gave him a big smile as she adjusted the blanket around herself.

"A wolf? Is it scary?" It looked like a puppy on the front cover. Wolves were scary.

He was briefly amused at the idea of Rahne being afraid of wolves, but recalling who raised her, it made sense. "Wolves aren't scary. But this one's more of a wolf puppy, and really, you can't be afraid of puppies. If you get scared, we can put it something else, okay?"

He pressed play on the remote. "Besides, nothing's ever going to hurt you while I'm around. I promise."

She smiled up at him and nodded. "Okay." She felt safe around him. She felt safe here. She didn't feel quite as afraid of doing the wrong thing.

She pulled the teddy bear over to Ani, the giant stuffed animal practically covering her up. "Do ye know it's name?" she asked, a little hesitant. He might tell her that toys don't have names and she shouldn't be silly.

This was more Jacen's purview, giving strange names to fuzzy creatures. Anakin could name any piece of electronics one would care to mention, down to and including each individual console on the Millennium Falcon. "I don't know," he admitted. Before her face could even fall, he added, "I suppose we'll have to give him one." What do people do without the Force to warn them of things? he wondered.

"Hm. His eyes are kind of blue. How about Blue? That should be easy to remember. Your eyes are blue, too."

At first she wasn't sure. After all, the bear was mostly brown, even if his eyes were blue. But then Ani mentioned her eyes and she smiled. "Okay. Blue," she declared, with a decisiveness only a five-year-old could have.

She turned back to the movie to watch for a bit, before her attention went back to Anakin. "I like puppies," she said cheerfully, glad she was allowed to talk during the movie. "Do ye think Izzy will come back?" Mia's dog had been here earlier.

"Izzy is over here all the time. Mia brings her over when she visits. She and Jamie are--" Anakin caught himself at the last moment, remembering Rahne's slightly skewed views on the world at this age. "...close friends," he finished lamely.

It was strange, being here with Rahne. No matter what they did now, things would eventually go back to normal, meaning that Rahne would end up back in her own universe. And Anakin couldn't go with her, whatever he promised.

"Good," she said, glad that she would be able to play more with the dog. She would probably ask about it again. She'd had more than one conversation about different kinds of fish with Jamie during Finding Nemo.

Rahne looked up at him, tilting her head to the side. "Are ye sad?" she asked, a worried expression on her face.

"Hm?" Anakin became aware that his sabacc face had slipped. "Oh, no. I was just thinking. That's my thinking face. I'm sitting here with you watching a movie about a puppy, what's there to be sad about?"

The reverend didn't deserve her, but she didn't deserve to have his thoughts dark and haunted when she should just be concerned with being happy. Anakin smiled. "I'm done thinking for now, though."

Rahne smiled, convinced. Nothing sad was happening, after all. She wrapped her arms around Blue as best she could and leaned against Anakin's side.

"I like it here," she said. Ice cream for dinner and stuffed animals and movies. It was really fun.

"I'm glad. You'll have to tell Jamie when he comes back too." Anakin suspected that Rahne would be asleep before Jamie came back for fear of being roped into another movie. He was probably making time with Mia, doing things that would earn them the label of "Devil's Whore," which was probably the most adorable ignorant comment he had ever heard anyone make.

He put his arm around Rahne and gave her a little hug.

"Okay," she said, nodding. She was excited for Jamie to come back. He was really funny.

Rahne tensed briefly when Anakin went to hug her, but must have decided it was okay because she relaxed against Anakin. "Do ye know any songs, Ani?" she asked, glancing up at him. She looked as if the sugar rush was starting to wear off.

Anakin had the kind of mind that clung relentlessly to information introduced to it; he probably knew every song he'd ever heard. However, at the moment, very few of them came to mind. For some reason, one of them was Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold," which probably said something about Anakin that he didn't want to know. "I know a few. I don't think I know any that you know, though."

Occasionally, he would catch Rahne (or, given the nature of time travel, he would eventually catch Rahne singing a Scottish folk song or religious song or something under her breath, but he could never get her to sing out loud. Now would be the time to take advantage, but she was too sweet a little girl to co-opt. "My mother and my..." he hesitated on what, exactly, to call Winter, much less to a five-year-old, before settling on, "aunt, they used to sing me a song when I was even younger than you." Secure in the knowledge that if anyone were around, he would sense them, Anakin softly sang an old Alderaani lullaby.

Little Rahne smiled and listening, looking up at him from where her chin was perched on his arm. She resolved not to fall asleep, and it took every ounce of stubbornness in her to stay awake. She hummed along a little even though she didn't know the song. She tapped a rhythm with her fingers on his hand, not matching the song at all.

When he was finished, she tried to sing the last line after him. "That was pretty," she said.

"Do you know any songs? Maybe you should sing." Anakin could tell he should be ushering her off to sleep, but his use of the Force notwithstanding, he wasn't likely to be able to talk her into doing what he thought she should do. Experience taught him that fighting with Rahne on any topic just made her stubborn, and he assumed that a five-year-old's tenacity would not help this.

"You had a really pretty voice when you were singing with me," he added.

She giggled. "Um, aye," she said, dragging the word out while she tried to think of a song to sing. Then she started singing 'Jesus Loves Me' in a quiet, but happy voice. She didn't have a trained voice, but she knew all the words and was reasonably in tune.
