Who: Teja, Miniver, Lulu and Skwisgaar the Elder
What: Time Muddlement
Where: Mordhaus, and Skwigelf Cabin - Stockholm
When: Evening
Warnings: None

Teja was used to Miniver's general tales of fancy, so when he realized that Miniver had turned into a young boy, he knew what to do. He was luckily able to find the mostly-completed suit of armor that he was making for Nathan - though it was bare of scrollwork that it would later have - and fit into it without a problem. He walked into the kitchen, grabbed the bag of marshmallows that had MINIVER'S!!! written on a tag on it, and ripped off the tag, before walking to Pickles' room.

He entered as quietly as possible with the steel covering him, and knocked on the wall three times. "I am looking for the King's steward, is he here?" His voice was low and was trained to be a proper mid-Atlantic accent, and was quite friendly. He sounded quite a bit like a baritone Clark Gable, though he looked nothing like that. His shoulder-length fire engine red hair streamed down and barely brushed the steel chest plate, and he turned on the light to look around. "Miniver, are you here?"

He held up the marshmallows. "I've told the King and Queen that you are here, if that's alright. They're on vacation right now, and I'm here to guard the palace while they're away. They said they'd like to meet the brave little knight that appeared in their castle."

There's a quiet shuffling sound seom somewhere in the wreck of the room, and a flicker of movement as Miniver peeks around the corner of a dresser. Seeing Teja, he scoots out just a little further -- and what ultimately appears to Teja is something that looks like a clip out of a Christian Children's Fund commercial, this tiny, unkempy child in ill-fitting clothing probably decades old now, staring through strange blue eyes under unbrushed black hair. He does indeed have a "sword" -- probably one of Murderface's daggers, tucked into a belt loop, though its weight makes it necessary for Miniver to use one hand to keep his pants from falling down.

He studies Teja with a kind of feral caution before speaking, his voice a shy near-whisper.

"Are you going to take me to see them?"

Kneeling down before the young boy, Teja gave a single nod. "Yes, if that's okay with you." He had a Klokateer waiting outside of the door to listen in on the conversation, so if anything else was needed, it would be brought to them. He looked the boy over and smiled sweetly, handing over the bag of marshmallows.
"We can get you some new clothes, you're about a size six in everything, right? Maybe 10c shoe, give you a little room to grow into, but not so much you'll slip around in." He heard the Klokateer walk away and he got to one knee, so he wouldn't tip over in the ungainly armor.

"Now don't fill up on the marshmallows, Queen Lulu has dinner waiting for us. She's a lovely, beautiful, wonderful lady, and she's pregnant right now with the prince. Would you like to meet her, Miniver?"

Miniver nods and scoots closer to Teja. It's like taming a wild animal, a little. He snatches the marshmallows and reaches in for a few, smiling. "I don't know what size I am," he mumbles while nibbling a marshmallow. "I never met a real Queen, either. Does she have a crown?"

There was a small nod, and Teja's smile dropped to an expression of slight seriousness, "I think those will fit you, they should be here in about ten, fifteen minutes. one of the lesser guards will bring them." Teja shook his head, "I've never seen her wear one, but she might. She prefers to wear her hair up, and crowns obstruct that. She has very, very long hair." He smiled a little, "Can I see that sword you found, sir Miniver? I think I might recognize it."

Hopefully, he thought, the thing was dull.

Miniver considers this request, seems to decide that Teja is trustworthy, and, setting aside the marshmallows, he solemnly tugs the dagger from his beltloop and tries to hand it over in the manner he's seen it done in books.

It is very, VERY sharp.

"How will we get to her? Is it a very long way to go?"

Teja sighed - both out of relief and disappointment - and set the dagger aside. "We'll get you a better sword than that one, that one's far too sharp for a young knight." He stated simply. "And it's a faraway place, yes, but there are magic areas all over the world called Portkeys, which can take you anywhere you think of that's on this world. You could go to London, or Moscow, or Atlantis, if you wanted. But we're going to just outside Stockholm, Sweden, right off the coast of the Baltic Sea. You'll be able to see the sea right from their cabin, in fact. They like it in Sweden, that's where the King grew up. He's very tall and very thin, and has lots of tattoos and can play the guitar so well that he is literally the best guitarist in the world." He smiled. "The queen can do magic, and has the most lovely eyes in all the world, and like I said, has very long hair." He finally sat down, cross legged, in front of the young boy.

"King Skwisgaar is a very quiet man, and he has a funny way of talking. Queen Lulu is a hero in Spira, and has slayed dragons. She can tell you all about that. I've only slayed bad men, myself, and zombies, and I once fought a werewolf. But I'm sure you don't need to know all that." Teja was glad that he could tell all this to Miniver and it actually sound like fantasy-come-true.
He was also glad he kept the scars he did, because he could show off the wolf-bites he'd sustained, and pass them off as the bites that 359 had given him.

Miniver kneels in front of Teja and leans forward a little to look at his armor. "I didn't know a King was allowed to play a guitar." This all really IS delightful to the nearly-8-year-old. "Werewolves are scary. Did it hurt you very badly? And when can we go?"

"As soon as the lesser guard gets here with the clothes, you can get dressed," he nodded to the dressing curtain in the corner, which was obviously something Miniver had picked out, "and we can go. The werewolf hurt me very badly, yes. See here?"

Teja tilted his head up and exposed his neck, where there were clear scars of teethmarks around his jugular, "That's where she bit me, and nearly ripped out my throat. We have a magical healer here in the castle, though, her name is Sadako. She's from Japan. She made sure I didn't get infected and become a werewolf myself. She raised me, actually." He smiled fondly and that was about when the hooded man came in with a folded pile of clothes, including a plush, hooded winter jacket and a pair of warm winter boots. "Clothes for the young Lord, sir," Said the Klokateer.

Teja smiled and took the clothes, ushering the Klokateer out of the room, before offering the clothes to the boy. "Go see if these fit you, alright?" He stood and clanked in his armor, before turning around so he wasn't facing the dressing curtain.

Miniver stares at the scar and listens raptly until the Klokateer arrives. He takes the clothing gingerly. "Are you sure I can wear these? They're really nice. I can't afford these, I don't have any money and my mom doesn't either..."

"They're a gift, you don't have to worry about money. I make a good living as a sword fighter, so they're on me." He smiled warmly and made sure to mark down the expense as actually on himself instead of on the band account. "Go ahead and get dressed, then we can go eat dinner with the king and queen."

He eyes Teja a little, but ultimately mumbles a "thank you" and does go behind the curtain. It takes him a while, but he changes into the new clothing. Even these are a LITTLE big on him, but not so much so that he has to hold his pants up.

He shuffles out finally, scooting shyly, wearing his new clothing and carrying the old stuff in his arms. "It's really warm." And the way he smiles, that expression breaking through cracks in his otherwise rather hopeless face, makes it clear that that's a good thing.

Teja smiled at the thank you and again as he shuffled out. "They look good on you, too." He smiled as dashingly as he could before offering his hand to the boy. He figured that if he was still around when the young boy turned into his old self again, he'd tell Miniver all about it. "Let's make haste, dinner's likely cooling at this point. We have to go through the topiary garden to get to the portkey, and then we'll be teleported all the way to Sweden."

With slow, careful steps, Teja made his way with Miniver beside him, walking down the long corridor and to the elevator, before walking down another hallway and out to the garden. It was well maintained and beautiful, with many gorgeous sculptures made of hedges of all sorts of fantastical beasts. Walking through the main row, they passed dragons and Valkyries, knights in battle, and other various beauties, before they got to the end - which had a simple garden post. "Close your eyes, it's a bit disorienting the first time." Teja quietly told Miniver, before he held Miniver's hand a bit tighter, and put his hand on the post, thinking of the Skwigelf cabin.

They arrived at the close end of the long driveway. It was cold outside and snowing, and the sounds of the Baltic Sea churning against the rock wall could be heard. There were trees surrounding the home, and still had streamers and balloons of black, gold, and silver hanging from the fence from Soren and Cassidy's party. He walked through the gate, to the door, where faint guitar music could be heard from inside. He knocked twice and looked down at Miniver with a smile. "It'll be just a second. Are you warm enough?"

Lulu had done her best to put on a longer dress - something befitting a queen - and had put on a tiara that Skwisgaar had given her as a gift along with some other hair accessories. She managed to set it in place with some combs, so her hair could stay mostly down.

When she opened the door, she wanted to blink and gasp at the two men standing there. Teja had gotten so much bigger than she remembered and Miniver was so small. So small in fact, that she couldn't help but fondly smile and reach out a hand to him. "Hello, Miniver. Sir Teja." She inclined her head toward the living room, ushering them inside with a sweep of her arm. "Please, come in. I've some stew warming up, if you're hungry."

Miniver clings around Teja's waist as they go through the portkey, his eyes closed tight. When they finally arrive at the door, he nods to Teja's question, though the truth is he's never warm and might be shivering a little. He doesn't complain. He doesn't ask anything that isn't given freely to him, and even then he doubts it.

Miniver is small -- now, as always, he looks both younger and older than his age. He's about the size of a 4 or 5-year-old, but with all the furtive suspicion and haggard, scraped-up look of a 12-year-old. He trots in after Lulu, still clutching his old clothing in one arm and stumbling a little now and then in a kind of odd way, almost as if he's got a limp he's hiding or is just clumsy enough to be constantly tripping over his own feet. When they get to the livingroom, he stops in front of Lulu and looks up at her with an expression amusingly serious on a face so young. He bows like a little Lord, his hair falling in his face.

"Um.. I um... thank you... milady... for your generousity." He's so PAINFULLY shy, it's like watching an actor tripping over his lines as well as his feet.

Teja smiled and kissed Lulu on the cheek, "Thank you, my Queen, for this opportunity. I'm sure the young knight should be well looked after under the watchful guidance of the queen and king." The look on the redhead's face was one of mostly amusement, and somewhat trying to maintain a Character.

The guitar music was louder once they walked in, and when they entered into the living room, the sound's source was sprawled in his usual chair, picking out a rather fanciful song. Skwisgaar had dressed up, as well - a mostly-open green silk shirt and a pair of black leather pants, and he was also wearing his usual boots. He'd braided his hair back at the temples and tied it off so it wouldn't get in his face as he played, and it also displayed his ears which had many piercings on them. The stark contrast of dyed jet black hair and white-blond brows and soulpatch gave Skwisgaar a rather unsettling, otherworldly look. The lines on his face showed his age, almost as well as his thin, long hands which were working the song out of the electric guitar. "Hallos." He said, barely looking up, "Somebody has tolds at me dats a couple knights is to be wantings a refuge here for a time?" He locked blue eyed gazes with the little Miniver and nearly stopped playing for a split second.
The boy was definitely Miniver, and it made his heart swell a bit to see him so very, very young.

Teja chuckled quietly, "Only one knight needs a bed tonight, your majesty. I've got my own back at the castle. But dinner sounds good."

Lulu showed them to the living room, then excused herself and padded to the kitchen. She'd called a restaurant and asked them to specially deliver some food and paid them a bit more to have them deliver after hours. But she knew that Miniver would need the food.

She returned with two bowls, one for Miniver and one for Teja. She handed them to the boys before moving to sit in front of the fire, motioning Miniver over. "So, tell me, knight. How did you come to be here?" She smiled a little to herself, but anyone who knew her well could see that it was mostly sad.

Miniver stares at Skwisgaar with an expression of awe. Clearly, he is absolutely taken by the belief that he is a real King, not to mention one of the most visually fascinating people he's ever seen in his very short life in the mountains of an impoverished Mafia-town. He bows awkwardly to Skwisgaar, too, his cheeks red, but is too shy to say anything.

The child carefully tucks his belongings somewhere out of the way -- under a coffee table, perhaps, next to a sofa, or maybe behind a cushion. When Lulu comes back, he has free hands to take the bowl with a mumble of thanks. He follows her to where she sits, perching as close to the fire as he dares.

"I'm not sure how I got here," he whisper-squeaks as he stirs the bowl with his spoon. "I think I was trying to hide somewhere and I went inside a door and it was somewhere I didn't know, so I stayed there, and then I couldn't leave. Or maybe I fell asleep. I don't remember. See... see, before that, I was um... I was fighting a monster, and it put um... it put me on fire, so I lost part of my memory..."

Teja listened to Skwisgaar's playing after thanking Lulu for the stew, and took a seat on the couch. He wasn't exactly starving, but he figured before anything else happened, he'd have to take care of himself.

The Swede listened in to the conversation that his wife was having with the young boy. It broke his heart, because he knew exactly what monster Miniver was talking about. The tune he played grew a bit more sad, but only slightly and only for a second before he caught himself and sought to envelop Miniver in a warm, cozy blanket of music, which is what he decided to play. "Dats is hokay, young knight. You am safe to stays at this place to rest for a while. Don't be afraid to asks for any sort of thing you want. I means it." His tone was softer than his usual demanding, condescending appeal. "You am safes here for a while."

Lulu's smile turned even sadder for a moment, and she couldn't resist reaching out to smooth Miniver's hair. Her hand extended slowly, and she carefully tucked it behind his ear. "It's exactly as my husband says. You're welcome here for as long as you need." She looked back at Skwisgaar and smiled gratefully at him. She knew that his heart must be aching as well.

"You're very brave," she said to Miniver. She meant it.

Miniver is oblivious to all going on silently in the room between Lulu and Skwisgaar, though he does find himself increasingly drawn to the so-called King and his music. The sound is as strange to him as Skwisgaar's appearance, and just as appealing, and strangely comforting. He wants to go closer to him and watch, but he doesn't just yet.

Towards Lulu, he is a little colder. Grateful, yes, but shy and nervous. He flinches when she touches him. It's barely perceptible, and he darts his eyes towards her and flashes a brief, faint smile as if to make up for it, but it is there.

"I could fight a monster for you," he offers quietly between taking little bites of stew and licking the spoon like a kitten or something, "if there is one in your kingdom."

Skwisgaar noticed the flinch, as well, and he smiled down at the frets of his guitar. "Young Miniver, you haves a not one thing to fear about Lulu. She am de most gentlest woman in all de histories of de worlds. I would not have married any less. She will not hurts on you. I can promise dats." He looked back up and gave a fond look to Lulu and stopped playing for just long enough to run the backs of his knuckles lightly over his wife's cheek. "She am nothings at all like a scary hag witch... whatevers." He went back to playing and looked down at Miniver with a careful nod. He knew that pain far too well, and it still showed in his ice blue eyes and the lines on his face, and even in the slightest movements of his body.

He was still a kindred spirit.

Teja watched this all carefully, quietly eating his soup while sitting on the couch. He knew Skwisgaar better than he knew his own father, knew Lulu better than he knew his own birth mother, but at the sight of a small, huddled, terrified and shy child, they were entirely new people. He smiled quietly to himself and tucked the information away.

Lulu smiled, arching into Skwisgaar's touch and closing her eyes. Her heart ached for both of them, and she smiled a little at Miniver. "No monsters here," she smiled. "Though your expertise is certainly welcome." She moved her legs into a more comfortable position, chuckling as Soren thumped against her stomach.

Looking down at her swollen belly, she cooed softly. "Shhh, love," she murmured, running her hands over her stomach. She turned to Miniver and smiled. "There's more food, if you're still hungry. I'm always hungry."

Miniver cannot, with his young mind, recognize the reasons WHY -- but he instinctively trusts Skwisgaar. Not only trusts, but feels close to him. Miniver's own shyness is all that's keeping him from going over to the guitarist and sitting at his feet. He actually looks at Skwisgaar with a real, genuine smile -- which, on that young, damaged face, may be the most heartbreaking expression yet. Teja's presence is almost entirely put aside in the shadow of Skwisgaar. Teja is still a safety net for the child, but the fact that he's still there is all that's important anymore.

At Skwisgaar's word, he accepts Lulu's affection as just as well. He relaxes a little, and sets aside his bowl, finishing most of the food in it. "I'm okay now. Can you really feel your baby? Can I touch it?"

Teja wandered over after a moment and smiled, putting his hand on Skwisgaar's shoulder, "Are you three going to be all right together? I should go get back to guarding the rest of the empire now."

Skwisgaar looked down to Lulu and then to Miniver, and nodded, "I can makes up a bed for him to sleeps on. Thank you Teja. You ams free to be goings. If de young knights is says on dat it is fine." He set aside his guitar and stood, immediately taller than the red haired man by an inch or so, and far more thin. "Stew am soundings very good right now. I goes and gets some for me." Looking up tat Skwisgaar, she smiled again, feeling nothing but love and wanting nothing more than to hug him. Miniver's sadness made Skwisgaar sad - she could see it - and she wished she could do something to cheer them both up. "There's ice cream, I believe."

Teja nodded to Miniver and took his leave, winking to Skwisgaar before walking out the door. He had prior engagements to deal with.

Skwisgaar let out a gentle chuckle and nodded simply. Miniver seemed like the sorriest, saddest, most adorable little thing he'd ever met, and he kept his hand held out. "Gots a popsicles in deres too, is orange. Dats am my favorite flavors of it. But we ams gots rockyroads ice creams? A friend leaveds it here a couple days ago." She watched as Skwisgaar moved with Miniver, leaning back on a cushion she'd dragged with her in front of the fire. She couldn't help but feel both elated and heartbroken at the same time. Miniver should never have had to feel this way, and Lulu knew if she ever met his mother somehow, she'd hit her. But at the same time, Skwisgaar was amazing. She was torn between tearing up and smiling. Instead of doing either, she focused on magically stoking the fire and watching them.

Lulu hoped that Miniver did take caramel, and she hoped that he would stay with them long enough to put on a little weight. She knew that no matter what happened, sometime he will have to go home. and that saddened her. She didn't know if giving him hope that there is magic in the world would make his life harder or easier as a child, if they were doing him a credit or a disservice. She hoped that it will fortify him, but there was no way to know. That ached.

Miniver gives Skwisgaar's question brief consideration before nodding shyly. "If it's not um... any trouble... yeah..." Clearly not a child who is used to taking, or to being given anything. But there's a fondness in the child's eyes for Skwisgaar so unmasked and honest, it's almost an unbelievable expression on him next to the way those same eyes would look at Skwisgaar years later. But really... the expressions are not so different after all. All that changes for the older man is more sadness in him.

He takes the ice cream when it's offered to him and finds a place to curl up in, near to the fire and near to Skwisgaar, somewhere warm and in a corner or against a wall, instinctively making himself as hidden as possible.

In the end, no kindness would ever be a disservice. His life would be his life -- and may have been a far shorter one without what slivers of hope he could find in it. Even getting him to relax since getting here is a remarkable change in the child.

Skwisgaar sat beside Miniver while they ate their ice cream and he spoke of Sweden - in particular, the area they were now inhabiting - and of the wars that had been fought on the very cliffs that the cabin stood. It was a long time ago, back when the Vikings and other North Men inhabited the land, and he spoke of the brilliant beauty that came of it, just south of them. The city of Stockholm was old as time itself, dating back to the days of kings in furs and iron swords. He spoke with a gentleness in his voice and soon, the ice cream was gone from his dish, and he continued to tell the story.

He looked up to Lulu with a kind of smile that only one who knew the joys of paternity could give. Pride, joy, a bit of sadness. He was feeling the same longing that he could give Miniver hope, that he could do the best for the little boy that he could, so in the future, the man they knew well as a friend could be just a little happier.

Standing up, Lulu collected their ice cream dishes and went to clean them. She didn't take too long, as she wanted to listen to Skwisgaar as well. Once she was finished, she moved back in front of the fire to sit down next to him, resting her head against his shoulder.

She didn't say anything, not wanting to break the spell he was weaving with his words. That, and he seemed happy. It warmed her to see how easily he'd taken to fatherhood.

Miniver loves Skwisgaar's voice. He loves it A LOT, and loves the stories he tells. The child curls up with his head on his knees and listens raptly. And here -- safe, warm, for once not hungry -- it isn't long before those pretty sad-eyes drift shut, and he falls asleep.

Skwisgaar puts a slow, careful hand through the young boy's hair and brushes it away from his face before slowly and easily bringing Miniver into his arms. It was a practiced thing - he often carried Glyndaa and Torii to their beds when they fell asleep on his lap as he told stories. He eased into standing and gracefully walked down the hall to the guest bedroom, where he set Miniver down into the soft bed, covering him in plush, warm blankets. "Sleeps well, poet. I sees you in de mornings time." He whispered, before walking out to join his wife once more.

There was a lot running in his mind, none of it really making much sense, so he spent a good deal of the night with the amp turned off and his fingers gracing the strings of his guitar.
