Who: Iggy the runaway bird-kid and Navi the Fairy.
Where: Middle of Nowhere, then Navi's apartment.
When: Last night when the site was down after Iggy found out where he was.
Why: Daring rescue/escape tiem!
Warnings: none yet, none likely.

Iggy had dozed off and on throughout the day, trying to keep alert so that he could keep tabs on his surroundings, other than that he was just waiting for dark, he had to get a better feel for his surroundings, if he could, and he knew after dark was the best time to do that.
He wasn't sure, unfortunately, if his clothes were dark, but he hoped they were, otherwise he'd really be seen. He'd tested his window earlier, finding that it was easy enough to open and slip out of.
So, an hour before midnight he slipped out, just letting himself drop, unfurling his wings at the last moment, gliding, looping, catching the heat-rise off the building and using it to climb. He'd been listening most of the day and knew they were well and away from any sort of civilization, far enough off from the nearest city that it was likely he wouldn't be seen at all. All he really had to worry about was owls and trees.

Navi hadn't been lying when she'd said she felt stircrazy. So, after midnight she slipped out of her window to portkey to anywhere in the midwest. She figured she'd have less of a chance of being caught over less populated areas, and she giggled as she rose from the ground. Eventually she was high enough to spin and do loop-the-loops, leaving a shower of glitter and the faint tinkling sound of bells in her wake.

At first he'd thought it was just a ringing in his ears, looping himself higher, settling into a glide so he could hear over the rustle of his own wings.
When he realized it was actually a sound he dropped again, falling like a shot, snapping himself into a tight, one-winged bank around a stand of trees he'd found not too long before, mostly by smacking into the high whippy branches. He found a wider, lower, branch, landing lightly, almost holding his breath as he listened.

If he listened closely, the light, happy giggle of a young woman could be heard over the giggle, along with an occasional 'whee!'. She was learning how to use her arms to her advantage, how to make her body work more aerodynamically as she flew.

Well that was... weird. He scratched the back of his neck, wings cocking and shifting to help him keep his balance on the branch, finally easing himself further out along it, kicking off and beating his wings slowly, rising to treetop level, still listening close, trying to figure out which direction she was in.

Navi paused, hearing the beating of feathers not her own. She stopped flying actively, just hovering for a moment. "Hello?" She moved slowly in a circle, trying to see where they were flying from. "Helooooo? I'm not mean, don't be shy!"

Well, she didn't sound like an Eraser. That was... well he wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing, so he banked again, circling higher for a moment before righting himself, wings flapping just hard enough to keep himself in one place, ready to dive back into the trees again if this proved to be a bad idea, "Over here."

Navi grinned when she saw it was a boy! "Well hi! " She flew over to sit on the branch with him. "Never saw a boy with wings before. Well, not birdwings. My boyfriend's a bird but only sometimes, he's either a person or a bird, but he's a god and doesn't count. Yeesh, I babble, sorry. Hi! I'm Navi!" ... she really didn't know how to control her mouth sometimes.

Iggy just blinked at this, recoiling slightly, but keeping his balance, fingers curling against the branch a moment, "... I... see?" It was an infodump, that was for sure, and one that he wasn't entirely sure he could make sense of, finally he decided to just stick with the part that made sense: "I'm Iggy."

He didn't look directly at her when she spoke, more in her direction. Nor did he meet his eyes. He was blind, she'd bet, but she didn't say anything to him about it. Instead, she just reached out for his hand and shook it. "That's a good name! How old are you?"

There was more blinking, it was easier, almost uncannily so, to focus on her when she was talking, accepting the handshake a little warily. He still wasn't looking at her eyes, somewhere just past her left temple, but it was closer, "uh... fourteen."

"Oh, you're still young! And you must not have had fairies where you're from." She tucked her legs under her chin. "Do you want to touch my wings?"

"No, we, uh... don't really." He was probably more confused now than he had been before, brow furrowed, the gears in his head turning almost audibly, still holding onto the branch with one hand, the other sweeping through his hair, sending it into further disarray, "But... I'm not really where I come from, am I?"

Navi shook her head, immediately reaching out to straighten his hair for him. "Nope. Probably not even close. I'm sorry. Did anyone you know follow you, or did you meet up with anyone?"

He froze at the touch, much more like a prey animal than the raptor-colored wings would indicate, finally shaking his head at the question, "No. Just me."

"I'm sorry," Navi murmured. She straightened out his hair a little, then pulled back, chuckling. "I'm sorry. I - I'm used to taking care of people, and sometimes I get carried away. I'm going to turn around and let you feel my wings now. They tear easily, so you have to be careful." And true to her word, she turned. When she did, blue wings that looked like they were made of gossamer extended from her back. They shimmered faintly blue, and were butterfly shaped.

He was hesitant, but reached out his free hand all the same, fingertips always staying somewhere just a fraction of an inch away from her actual wing, "So... you're actually a fairy? Not ... not a recombinant DNA hybrid?" Because that sounded better than 'genetically engineered freakshow'

"A who and the what now? No, I'm really a fairy. When I was brought here, I was put in a regular human body, i guess, so I'm a LOT bigger than I normally would be, but that happens a lot. I know a girl who used to be a car, a guy that used to be a book. There's lots of different people around here. YOu'll never get bored."

His voice was just a little quieter when he spoke again, altogether unsure and more than a little concerned, but doing his best to hide it, "Recombinant DNA hybrids. It's what I am. 98% human, 2% bird." He gave what amounted to a shrug with his wings.

"Someone made you?" Navi's voice was more than a little shocked. "I don't want to offend, but that's terrible! Were you born this way? I mean, I'm the first person to say I think everyone should have wings, but ... adjusting, going to a normal school... I'm a teacher, and it'd make it hard on you to fit in, I think." She sighed, then smiled at his wings. "Your wings are beautiful, though. I've always wondered what it would be like to have feathers."

He was more surprised by the fact that she thought it was terrible than anything, brow furrowing, he could almost focus on her face, still off to one side, just a little too high, but at least he had the distance right now, right about on her right eyebrow that time, "No, the bird DNA got grafted on after I was born. I... didn't go to a normal school." There was an understatement for the ages.

She reached out to hug him, more at a loss for words than anything else. "I'm sorry, just... sock me in the arm if you get sick of me." She hoped he wouldn't, but still. "Do you have a place to stay yet? If you got stuck with mean parents, you can stay with me."

He was startled by the hug, wings jerking, more to keep his balance than anything.
At the question he pointed towards the building, dark and hulking now with the lights off, industrial grey brick, not that he could see it, "I'm in there. It's a school, not like the one I was in before, I don't think." At least he hadn't smelled any of the super-clean antiseptic smell, and nothing feral and angry like the Erasers, so that was a good sign anyway.

Navi looked down, sniffling a little. She could be an oversensitive soul at times, and when she saw a boy so young, just showing up in a new world, it tugged at her heart. "Okay, but if they start being weird or mean or ANYTHING, you tell me. I'll come get you."

He chewed the inside of his lip for a long moment, there were resources there, the computer that read to him for instance, but he wouldn't feel safe there.
Granted, he wasn't sure that following her would be any better, but at least it was probably easier to defend himself from her than it was from the staff at this place, "...I don't think they'll miss me."

For some reason, that made her kind of glee. "Is there anything you want to yoink? Clothes, or a laptop? If I got stuck in a place like that, you bet I'd steal something. Like everyone's pants. Chaos." She nodded and grinned, knowing he'd be able to hear it in her voice.

He could, and his own grin was quite similar, ear-to-ear and full of glee that made him seem younger, "You... want to help me look? There's clothes and stuff, but I don't know if any of it's actually mine."

Navi giggled and nodded before she realized he couldn't see it. "Absolutely. Oh, I didn't know this would happen tonight when I went flying! Kidnapping and theft! But for the greater good, so it barely counts." She hovered off of the branch, smiling down at him. "Are you allergic to ferrets?"

He actually laughed then, letting himself drop from the branch, wings opening to catch the air, flapping hard twice just to bring himself up above treetop level again, "Exactly, I mean, I don't have much of my own stuff, so I don't know if any of it came here too." A shrug, managing not to knock himself off course at all, "C'mon." It was an easy swoop and glide, finding the window he'd left open easily enough by feel, and by the radio he'd left on, quietly, for just that purpose.

Navi followed him, careful to drop the last few feet to cut off the chorus of tinkling bells that followed her whenever she flew. The trail of glitter would be a dead giveaway too. Once he was by her side, she reached out to take his hand, amused that he was already taller than her.

He folded his wings down, tucking them easily into hollows beside his spine, under a shirt and a windbreaker they were invisible, though he did end up looking just a bit like an Olympic swimmer. He shrugged, making his way across the room, "I... I had a backpack, before I got caught in the ... thing, vortex thing, I haven't been able to find it. Not sure if I managed to hold onto it."

Navi started to look around. She'd had the sharpest eyes in all of Hyrule, and was a contender for this world as well. She found a backpack, though it was empty, and started to fill it with clothes that she had eyeballed as being his size. Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush.

The computer was, in fact, a laptop, and it didn't take him long to figure out how to shut it off and snap it closed, "Is there a case for this? Will it fit in the backpack?" He was already gauging weight, "And how far are we going?"

"Don't see a case, yeah it will, and to New York City but there's things called portkeys that make it really easy." She was still looking around for his backpack, the one he'd mentioned.

He nodded at that, fingers running over the top of the desk just to make sure there wasn't anything else there he'd need, snapping up the headset he'd used to make his voice post earlier, dropping it into the top of the backpack she'd found, fingers running over it, "...this is the right one, was there anything in it before?"

"No, I'm sorry." She sounded a little crestfallen, a little sad, and she looked around, finding another change of shoes in the closet. There weren't any stuffed animals or video games, which kind of made her sad.

He shook his head, taking stock of what she'd already packed as he slid the laptop in more carefully, securing it with the rest of the contents and zipping the bag up, "It's okay, got everything in it that I need now, I think." He kept his voice low, though he didn't suspect anyone else was still awake at this hour, "You said you live in New York?"

Navi's voice was as low as his. "Yup. I teach kidndergarten there. I only have a two-bedroom, but you can have the place I was using for a study. It's mostly empty except for books anyway, so we can get you a nice bed. And I have a boyfriend, but he'll like you and he's not creepy or anything."

He nodded, "It's just..." His brow furrowed, trying to figure out how to explain, finally settling on: "You know how bats 'see' things" Fingerquotes and everything, "With bouncing the echoes off stuff?"

Navi nodded. "Sonar, yup. Can you do that? That's awesome!" She decided to test it, and grinning, stuck her tongue out at him.

He nodded, "Yeah, sorta like that, sorta just like echolocation, kind of the same thing either way." He shook his head, "Can't do it if there's too much noise though, can't tell where the noise is and where the echo is."

"I'm not too far into the city proper, I'm actually closer to Brooklyn. I hope that helps." She bit her lip. "I'm sorry."

He shook his head, a small, hopeful, smile catching at the corners of his mouth, "It's okay." A shrug, "I'll figure something out."

"I'll help." She squeezed his hand and hopped out of the window, grabbing his backpack after her. She strapped it to her chest and held it with an arm before reaching out to take his hand.

His brow furrowed slightly, "I can carry the bag." He said, shrugging, "You don't have to." He wasn't used to people being nice to him, really. Sure, there was the Flock, but everybody pulled their own weight there, even Angel.

"I don't mind, but if you want to." She unslung it and handed it to him, grinning. "So, we're going to fly to the portkey and then we'll be right outside my apartment. It'll feel weird and you might get a little disoriented, but our wings won't get too tired.

He nodded, slinging it across his chest and tightening the straps to keep it secure, "Okay." He'd be ready to bolt if he was walking himself right into a trap, but just at the moment he still wasn't entirely sure it wasn't a dream, so he was going to go with it, "Lead the way, I'll be able to follow you."

Navi fluttered upward, still flying a bit slower than she normally would if only so he could keep up. The portkey wasn't that far away, and she spotted the trash can in a few minutes. "Down here," she called out, flying downward.

He could follow her by sound easily enough, deciding that that was easier than having to rely on Fang above and Gazzy below to make sure he didn't drift off course. He circled once, one wing flickering as he banked, landing lightly beside her, wings folding down easily again, "Okay."

"Okay, take my hand, then we'll be right outside my apartment. We'll just walk from there, though, just in case the sound hurts your head." She squeezed his hand before touching the trashcan and within seconds they were outside her little apartment building. "You okay?"

He was almost instantly on edge, wings tucking down tight, partially to keep them out of sight and partially to make a smaller target, as much as a six-foot-tall fourteen year old kid could, even at this time of night there was still enough city background noise that it threw him off, hand tightening in hers for a moment, letting the city smells wash over him, alert for anything that could spell danger.

Navi guided him inside, toward the stairs. "Okay, I'm on the third floor." She waited for him to get an idea of how big the stairs were before picking up her speed at all. "I hope you like it," she smiled.

He was thankful for that, and still tense until they were inside and things quieted a little. He felt out the shape of the first two steps before following her easily up the rest of them, "Thank you."

"You're welcome. Let me grab the door." She opened the door and guided him inside before shutting it after him. Her apartment was large and airy, and she smiled. "Kitchen's to your left, living room's to your right. About fifteen paces behind that is the hallway that leads to the bedrooms and the bathroom. Bathroom's the first door on the left, your room will be the first door on the right, and mine's the last one. Let me go get your bed set up, it's one of those sofa beds until we get you a real one tomorrow." She disappeared with a jingle of bells, a clear indicator she was pleased.

He couldn't help but smile at that, leaving the backpack right by the door for the time being, making a slow circuit of both kitchen and main room, just making sure he knew where all the furniture was, the exits, just in case it came down to a fight, or if he had to leave in a hurry, "You don't move the furniture around for fun or anything, do you?" He called after her.

"I'm five foot three and weigh a hundred and ten pounds! I'm lucky if I can move the toaster!" She grinned and went to set up his bed, grunting and making noises that sounded like she was a tennis pro. It proved her point.

He couldn't help but smile at that as well, shaking his head, "Sounds like it. You sure you don't want some help?"

"I'm good! Just got it!" She smiled and went to find some sheets, making the bed as fast and as well as she could. She left them untucked, just in case before going to get him. "Okay, here's your room, and like I said we'll get you a bed tomorrow."

He nodded, fingers trailing along the wall as he moved, finding the edge of the bed easily enough and settling lightly, "Thank you for this." A shrug, "For everything. Just hope I don't eat you out of house and home tomorrow." He said, that wry twist back at the corner of his mouth.

Navi smiled. "I'm a fairy in a human's body, which means I have the metabolism of a hummingbird. Speaking of, are you hungry? I could get a couple of pizzas." She sat by him on the bed and hugged him lightly.

He actually laughed at that, one quick snap of sound, "I think we'll be okay then. I eat... a lot. Really a lot. Flying burns energy like you wouldn't believe." A pause then, "Uh, except you probably would."

"Yup! That, and you're growing still. I'm going to get those pizzas." A loud growl of her stomach marked her standing up. "Hey, you wanna meet Turbo? He's a ferret, but he's really affectionate. He likes to give kisses."

He nodded at that, smiling again, "Sure." His brow creased slightly then, "You don't think he'll freak out because I smell like a bird, do you?"

Navi shook her head. "Nope! I don't think so. You're huge, so even if he thought you were a bird, you're a huge bird that could eat his head." She smiled and pecked him on the cheek, leading him toward the ferret cage. She unlatched it, pulling out a sleepy ferret and pressing it to his chest.

"Just hope I don't smell like a raptor and freak him out." He blinked at being handed a fuzzy wiggly thing, not at all sure what to do at first, just holding the ferret in the crook of his arm, petting him with the other hand, mostly just figuring out how big he was, careful not to pet too hard, not wanting to scare the little guy.

Navi grinned when Turbo snuffled and wiggled closer, licking Iggy with weird ferret curiosity. "He was born in captivity, so I don't know if he knows to be scared. That, and I'm here." She knelt down beside them. still fussing with Iggy's hair.

He couldn't help but smile at that, shifting his grasp of the critter to let Turbo climb as he would, still petting to make sure he wasn't going to slip, "That makes sense, I guess."

She smiled. "Think you can hang onto the wiggly worm while I get pizzas? What do you like on yours?"

"I think I've got him, yeah." He said, still smiling, head ducking forward as the ferret crawled across the back of his neck, "And uh, everything? I'm really not a picky eater. More protein is always a good thing though, so, pepperoni, sausage, Canadian bacon, chicken, whatever."

"One meat lover's with all veggies for you and one meat lover's for me!" She disappeared in the other room, though she knew he could probably hear her ordering the pizza. She got a large for each of them, plus soda

Once that was done, she came back into the other room to sit down next to him, chuckling. "Turbo really likes you."

He grinned up at her, actually managing to focus somewhere close to the middle of her forehead at that point, one wing cocked forward over his shoulder so that the ferret stretched up across his chest and shoulder could inspect it, snuffling and pawing, "It's weird, we had a rabbit once, but it wasn't really a pet. More of a rescue."

"I don't think rabbits are nearly as cuddly, either - " Navi stopped talking and held her breath to keep from laughing when Turbo started to groom Iggy's wings and got a mouthful of feather.

This made Iggy laugh as well, shaking his head and detaching Turbo carefully, "Easy there buddy, those aren't really that tasty, and they come out pretty easy sometimes." Because sure, the ferret could understand him.

Navi took Turbo back and giggled. "He's making a 'pleh' face, the kind you make when you eat gross food? Good to know your feathers are ucky." She giggled and shoved Turbo down her shirt, like she usually did when she wanted her hands free. Checking his wing, she smiled. "Everything's there! I wouldn't have wanted him to gnaw on a feather that's still attached at the quick. That hurts."

He smiled at that, head tilting forward again, wing stretching just a little, it was reflex really, just making sure she had room to work, "Yeah, that would've sucked." A slight shrug, "Don't figure they taste that great either, really."

Navi lightly straightened his feathers, helping groom him carefully with her fingers, as much as she could. She was gentle and careful. "I once helped an owl with this, but I was about oh, fifty or sixty times smaller."

He nodded, "Yeah, you said that. That's actually really cool." He figured she'd make a pretty awesome teacher. Better than the ones he'd had, anyway.

His brow creased slightly at that, but he nodded, "Um, sure?" Aside from the once, he was still used to Max just hacking away at it with the kitchen scissors, the same as they all did.

There was a small smile at the foot-bump, bumping back, he was used to the rest of the Flock poking him or bumping him now and again just to remind him that they were there.

"Trust me, you don't want me cutting it. You'd end up with mangled ears and worse hair. Nope, we'll leave it to the professionals." She smiled and couldn't help giggling a little when he bumped her back. "Do you want to get books and stuff tomorrow, too? There was another smile at the first, shrugging, "I'm used to that, well, not the ears really, but the uneven haircuts. And books would be good, maybe some games or something for the computer."

He tensed almost immediately at the mention of a school, not quite backing away, but ready to make a break for it if he got the wrong response, "No, no schools."

"Yeah, we can get you whatever games and stuff you want. I don't know much about them, besides the fact I stink at Guitar Hero." She shrugged and blinked when he tensed up.

Who would have made someone so scared of school? "Iggy, I just meant a public junior high, but you don't have to go. I can teach you things so that way someday if you want to go to college or something, you can. Really. I - I don't know why you're scared of schools, but it's okay. I'm never going to make you do something you don't want to do. Except maybe take out the trash. Maybe." She tried to sound playful.

"I can take out the trash." He said, shrugging, "I mean, as long as the dumpster or whatever stays in the same place, I can count steps or something." Or knowing him rig something so that he could drop it from the roof right into the dumpster, "And I can clean up after myself." Just because he could didn't mean he would, "And I'm a pretty good cook." He said, shrugging, "Used to cook all the time."

His brow furrowed then, "And what's guitar hero?" Because clearly this was a more important question than why he was scared of school.

"There's a garbage chute in the hall, actually." She smiled and took her hair down, now that she wasn't flying. "and really? Could you teach me? I'm sort of trying to teach myself how, but cookbooks assume that you know things. Cooking back in Hyrule isn't at all like how it is here."

She pursed her lips, almost feeling bad for mentioning it. "Oh, it's a video game that my students like. Colors show up on a screen and you press them in time with buttons on a controller shaped like a guitar. It helps supplement the times people play air guitar, I guess."

"Huh, that's weird." A shrug then, "And garbage chute in the hall makes things really easy."

The smile returned, if a little more timid than before, "I can try. I mean, I'm the only one who's cooking expertise doesn't revolve around 'stuff burned on sticks', so it's not like I'm great at it or anything, but I'm... pretty good I guess?"
