Sookie Stackhouse is a freakin' fairy ([info]dangerwhore) wrote in [info]utr_logs,

Who: Sookie Stackhouse and Oz the Popular
What: Coffee! Conversations. C... ookies? And other 'c' things.
When/Where: This afternoon? Time isn't fixed/ the coffeeshop Oz directed her to
Warnings: Unlikely, unless werewolf/vampire/psychic talk needs a warning.

Reading the address again, Sookie groaned inwardly at the fact that he seemed to be in one of the busier parts of the city. As much as she'd been working with Sadako to control her telepathy, it was still a fleeting thing, and she had to concentrate on not running into anyone, and finding her way, on top of making it to the coffeehouse.

Thankfully, it wasn't too far from the portkey, and she slipped inside a few minutes after she'd told Oz to expect her, looking through the crowd for him.

((ooc: While I was at one time a huge Jossverse fan, it's been a while, and I forget if his version of werewolf would be prone to psychics. She can read thoughts, so it's up to you whether she can hear his, or if his affliction prevents it.))

((I really don't know! We'll say yes, but they're probably a bit weird. Like, Oz thoughts, normal stuff, and then weird primal stuff running underneath that he's not aware of consciously.))

If Oz had known she was a reader he probably would have picked a more isolated place. But he was thankfully a pretty punctual person when it came to meeting up with people (if not for more responsible engagements) and he was already there whn she arrived. He saw her come in and waved her over to the table, nudging out her chair for her with his foot.

"Hey. You're Sookie?"

((Alrighty! Thank you.))

"I'm Sookie, which makes you Oz. Howdy," Smiling, she moved closer and offered him a hand, before sliding into the seat, looking around; it was easier for her to avoid the thoughts of those close to her if she didn't make eye contact.

"Nice place." She probably seemed distracted, but that was for the best, for everyone.

He shook it before dropping his hand to the table, snagging his coffee. "What do you want to drink?" he asked. "Yeah, it's alright. My first priority was finding a place with decent coffee, so."

((down will work here too, sorry XD))

"Uh... just a coffee's fine. Black." She still wasn't used to all the frilly coffees they had in the shops, not even having a Starbucks within ten miles of her town. She gave a strange look to a man sitting off to the side, looking him over before back to Oz. "An' I was kidding about you payin', by the way," She was already reaching for her wallet, pulling out a couple bills.

He waved a hand. "Don't worry about it," he said. "I have money to spare for the first time...ever. I want to spend some."

He ordered her a black coffee, noticing the look she cast to the side. "What?" he asked, glancing over at the man. He seemed normal enough.

She looked back to Oz, having to think about what he was asking; the glances were ingrained, when she heard something strange. "Oh, just- nothing," She shook her head, busying herself with stashing her wallet. It wasn't that she was trying to be deceptive about her ability, she just... still struggled, having that conversation outright.

He took the answer at face value. If she said it was nothing, it was nothing. He was probably over thinking it. "So you're my kind of person," he said after a moment. "Not too concerned about the conversation part of meeting people for coffee. I like that." It was always sort of difficult to tell when he was joking because his humor was just so dry, but the slight smile made it a bit more evident.

"You say more in three sentences than m'boss does t'me in hours of work. This here is taxing socialization, comparitavely." She shrugged, her own smile only coming along with the next sentence. "'Sides, The obvious questions aren't as much fun, 'less you gotta drink t'spit out your nose when y'hear 'em,"

He smiled. "I want to hear the obvious questions," he said, and took a sip of coffee, holding it in his mouth and waiting patiently for her to go on.

An eyebrow arched, and she took a drink of her own coffee, to consider how to respond to that (there were never any real obvious questions. One thing she'd learned, since getting here). "'Dunno what'd you'd consider obvious, for th'end of a 'So a psychic and a werewolf walk into a coffeehouse' joke. But I'm open t'suggestions," It was a bit of a redirect, not to mention probably the first time she'd referred to herself as a 'psychic' to him. She'd just recently started embracing the term at all, but it made for a better delivery, on the joke, and worse case scenario, she'd play it off as just that. A joke.

He swallowed the coffee, opting not to spit it out. "You're a psychic?" He paused. "Is that why you looked at that guy the way you did? He was imagining you naked or something."

She was glad that didn't deserve a spittake. It was hard for her to find a way to deliver that little factoid without either blurting it out like she had, or reacting to something someone thought before realizing it was all in their heads. One of the nice things about Bon Temps, everyone talked about everything, so they all knew. No awkward revelations.

"Yeah. 'Can hear thoughts, see pictures if th'memory's strong enough, things like that." She took another sip of her coffee, and a deep breath afterward, to try and clear her head again.

"'Pparently one thing I can't do, s'figure out how t'make that sound less awkward. An' it wasn't me he was imaginin' naked," The last was a complete bluff, her attempt at a joke to get things back on track.

"I won't ask you to tell me what I'm thinking," he added. "That's hokey. Cliche. I try not to go for the obvious." He was genuinely not at all ruffled to hear this news. Then again, he wasn't exactly easy to ruffle. Better than finding out she was a demon or something worse. Mind reading seemed light and fluffy by comparison.

Oz raised an eyebrow. "I knew wearing my nice shirt today was a bad idea," he lamented, sipping his coffee.

"Well, if it's any consolation, you do look nice. But definately not what that guy was thinkin'." She gave him a joking little wink, shifting on her chair to tuck a leg under herself on the chair to get comfortable. The more she relaxed, the easier it was to keep the noise at bay.

"So, at the risk'a bein' obvious- heard you talked t'Bill 'bout your questions. Find out what you wanna know?" All she'd done was help him get the book out of The Back- the large closet stacked to the top with his books in an order she was certain he didn't even understand.

"And here I thought I was drawing the wrong sort of attention," he said.

He nodded slowly. "Yeah. I mean, I think so. He gave me some pills and a charm he said might help. I won't really know until the moon."

She laughed a little at the comment, before giving a nod at the comment on Bill. "Good. F'he says it'll help, it should help. S'sorta in the business'a helpin' strays, s'seems. Bill's the one put me up, when I got here. Guess I gotta talent f'finding nice men that ain't quite what they seem." She hid the little smile that tried to bloom at that in a drink of coffee.

At the 'strays' comment he smiled a bit. "Oh yeah?" he asked. "I guess it probably helps that you can read their minds to make sure their intentions are honorable. Who are the other ones?"
