Entry tags:ilya monroe, kris furillo, malakai chmelyk, rurik markov, willow rosenberg

Who: Kris, Ilya, Kai and anyone else who wishes to show up.
Where: The house
When: Thanksgiving
What: Trying for normal
Rating: TBD

In the years since she was released from Camp LeGrange Kris had learned not to expect anything close to normal, especially given the latest events in her life. Desperately seeking some form of normalcy Kris had invited the two least normal people to dinner. Malakai may be kind, and she knew nothing of Rurik, Kris knew that the two were far from normal. Though Kris knew these facts she still tried, she still had a plan to try and make a happy holiday not only for Ilya, but for herself as well.

Kris knew better than to try and cook too much, but she figured she could manage the basics, with the help of things she found online on how to do it. Having cooked a turkey, successfully mind you, and made the appropriate sides. With all that had been happening Kris was more than pleased with herself at the fact that she had managed this. Of course, no matter how well she managed to make this meal people actually had to show up to eat the meal.

Ilya was there, by her side, staying out of her way, for the day. He'd watched her cook, offering taste tests and mild suggestions from time to time, but otherwise keeping one eye on the television, to keep himself from wandering in and messing up her concentration. He wasn't comfortable in the kitchen, had never been comfortable cooking. He enjoyed cooking out on the grill, and everything else came from a box or a can, premade, and heated in the microwave.

He was proud of her, of the effort she'd made, the food she had prepared. it was going to be a good dinner, whether it was the two of them, or more. He hoped for more. His father and Rurik, at the least, but if it did turn out to be just Ilya and Kris, he'd make sure it was still a Thanksgiving she wouldn't soon forget.

Malakai obviously didn't see the big deal over the holiday at hand- he hadn't spent much time in America, previous to his arrival in this world, and while he was vaguely aware fo the concept, this was the first he was hearing of it. Still, Kris had wanted them to come for dinner, and he wasn't going to insult her or his son by refusing.

Having managed to get Rurik to agree to accompany him, Kai had left the house early, hunting down a liquor store still open to pick up a couple bottles of wine (unsure of what to drink with poultry, and whatever else was being served). That accomplished, with the equally-clueless shopkeeper trying to offer some idea, Kai and Rurik made their way to Kris' door. Shuffling the bags, he knocked, not wanting to just let himself in the other's house.

"Kris? Darling, it's Malakai and Rurik."

Kris heard the door and once made sure she had everything in order she rushed over to let the two in. Opening the door, a bright smile in pace and extremely pleased that she and Ilya wouldn't be eating food for a week she greeted the two. "Hey" She said with a bounce as she moved to let them in.

"I'm glad you two came." She said. "I think I made too much food." She joked.

"That just means you'll have plenty left over for the coming days," Rurik offered with a smile. "It's good to see you again, Kris." He leaned in to give her a friendly greeting hug. He nodded to Ilya. "And you, Ilya."

"Yourself," Ilya nodded in reply. He moved to embrace his father, and greet Kai properly. "I'm glad you could make it. It means a lot to Kris and I."

"What, and miss a free meal?" His eyes betrayed the joke a second before he laughed, hugging his son before offering the same to her. "Come now, before we let all the heat out." He led the gaggle inside, wiping his feet (something he probably hadn't done since dying) and setting the bag of wine aside, so he could shed her coat.

Kris smirked and gave Rurik a hug back then hugged Malakai as she moved past him. "You three get comfortable, I need to check on a few things then dinner is served." She said as she bounded off to the kitchen.

"Are you certain there's nothing we could do to help?" Rurik asked. Ilya touched his arm to get his attention, and shook his head. Rurik nodded, and followed Ilya into the sitting room.

Malakai seemed to either have the sense not to ruin Kris' idea of playing hostess, or a desire to avoid the work himself, as he followed the woman in the kitchen just long enough to deliver the wine to her, before returning to the sitting area with the men. He dropped down onto the couch on the end opposite Rurik, having no shame about making himself comfortable.

Kris hadn't heard anyway, she was already to the kitchen and finishing off the things she needed to do. Mostly it was checking on the turkey and putting rolls in the oven, but there was the part where she wanted to hide while they troed the food just in case it was terrible.

Rurik was quite terrible at small talk, and Ilya wasn't much better. But it was Ilya who spoke, to ask the other men how their day had been, if they were enjoying the holiday.

"It is the first for either of us," Rurik replied. Ilya had been born and raised in the United States, likely celebrating or at least recognising the holiday throughout his life. "And so far not a bad one." He spared a small smile for Ilya, and a slightly more invested one for Kai.

While the three were talking Kris finished with everything, finally able to take the turkey out of the oven she slid an oven mitt on and reached in only to realize the oven mitt was far to thin for that hot of a pan and let out a screech as she pulled her hand back followed by a curse. "Dammit!" Was all that could be heard as the oven door slammed closed once more. Kris couldn't help but think that she should have let one of them help her with this part.

Having the quickest reflexes of the two- and a great desire not to see any harm happen to his son's lover- Kai was in the doorway of the kitchen only a second after the oven door slammed, head tilting as he watched her, concerned. "Darling, what happened?"

Kris looked to Malakai and frowned. "Crappy oven mit and really hot pan." Said with mild annoyance. "I'm fine.."Said as she clutched a towel with ice in it.

He took a step closer, despite the smell of singed skin, light but noticible to him, in the air. "Are you sure you're alright? What would you have me get for you?"

Ilya had moved in behind Kai, concern etching his brow.

Rurik hung back, keeping a watchful eye on things, but trusting Kai and Kris, and Ilya if needed, to handle things.

"I'm okay, really." Kris said as she smiled at him. "I just need to get the turkey out of the oven, everything else is done." She added as she looked up and noticed Ilya and Rurik. "I'm fine, really."

A reassuring smile, as he nodded to her. "Alright, dear, Might I help you with that?" He was already have way to the oven, unless she really hand an issue with it. He wasn't all that concerned with burning himself, knowing it would heal just as fast as it came.

"Like you'd take no for an answer?" She asked with a smirk. "Yeah you can, its probably better you did anyway."

Kris turned just in time to see Ilya watching carefully. "I'm okay, really."

"Come here, hon," Ilya said softly. "Kai and Rurik can handle the turkey." He'd feel better if she were out of the kitchen. Not that she couldn't handle it, but he just wanted to get her out and away for a moment.

Kris smiled at him, a pained one, but a smile no less as she walked over letting him lead her away. "I apparently need new oven mitts." She added as she showed him her burned hand.

Burns were something Ilya knew all too well. He held her hand in his, careful not to irritate the mark, as he kissed the back of her hand. "Stay here. I'll get the salve you have doe your stomach, to put on it." He might even ask Rurik if he had the power to give a touch of healing to the wound.

Kris nodded. "I'll be fine, its just my hand Ilya." She said. "I'm just annoyed." It was mostly true, the other thing was she didn't want him to worry to much as she had worked hard to make the day a good one for him.

Malakai handled the turkey onto the stovetop with just a soft curse from the burn. Pausing, and giving a little thought to it, he was able to heal himself easily, tossing the mits off and grabbing the knife, to start slicing; it was bigger than the fowl he was used to, but he would be able to manage.

"Don't think the irony is lost on me," He muttered to Rurik in Russian with a little grin, expertly carving the meat from the bone, setting it onto the serving tray.

"Nor myself, Malakai," Rurik replied. He watched as Kai worked the turkey, interested in the process. Thanksgiving was not something he bothered to celebrate, though he supposed any excuse to come together for good food was a good one. After a moment, he moved to see if there was anything else to be prepared, vegetables or what not, to be put out in serving bowls.

Ilya retrieved the salve Kris had for her stomach, and gently applied it to her fingers. He didn't speak while he did it, concentrating on what he was doing. He had no healing magic, he wasn't even sure how exactly he was able to heal himself. His hands had healed from the casino fire, leaving faint scars at both wrists and nothing more.

Malakai moved the serving tray onto the table, setting it among the other dishes that were already placed. He looked everything over, shaking his head. "I wonder if she is expecting more people?" By Malakai's standards, they probably could have fed a small town, from the amount of food they had.

Kris watched as Ilya treated her hand, completely in love with the man and amazed how much he cared for her. "Ilya" She whispered. "I'm sorry that this wasn't perfect." She felt bad that he had to keep taking care of her.

Ilya shook his head. He held her injured hand in one of his, the other moving up to her cheek. "Nonsense, Kris. My father is here, you're here. It couldn't be more perfect." He pressed his forehead to hers.

She smiled a bit at that as she looked up into his eyes. "I love you" Said as Kris moved just so that she could press her lips to his.

"I wanted this to be a good day for you, you deserve it."

Willow had no clue why she was there, it wasn't like she really celebrated the holiday between being a witch and jewish, not that she was a practicing jew, but still she felt she would be out of place.

When she finally decided to go she opted to take a desert, at least she would be useful if she did show up. Arriving at the door, apparently missing all the fun, the red head raised her hand to knock on the door only to hesitate, wondering if she should just run now before anyone knew she was there.

Unfortunately for her, the door opened before she had the chance to bolt, Malakai glancing from her outstretched hand to her face.

"I am sorry. Should I wait for you to knock?" He smiled softly, stepping back a little, only to speak softer, "Or if you would like, I can tell them you were a lost someone, and you can run," As that seemed to be what she was poised to do.

She stopped and smiled at the man. "No fair." Willow pouted a bit. "And no, I won't run..just not sure why I was invited is all." she said.

"How are you?" Asked as Willow stepped into the house and looked around.
