Sable gave Soren clearer directions to where she'd be before signing off. He'd find her there, not near any houses, leaning against a tree dressed in the very fur for which she was named as snow falls slowly through the tall pines.

	He already was antsy, and this didn't help. He worried his lip nervously, sighing. He had a good idea what she wanted to talk about - and rightly so - but he didn't want to come out and say anything before she did. So he walked as well, sighing and shivering. (Reply to this)

She leads him over clear ground -- apparently she's been this way before, or fakes it well. It's impossible to see whether there were footprints, the snow has stuck and frosted over everything. But eventually they come to a little clearing near a half-frozen brook there there is a pile of stones built, and a couple of logs set up to sit on, three of them large enough for two people or three but situated to make use of the wind and not sit in the smoke.

Sable silently nods her little wizard towards the stones and goes to pull a little kettle and some tea boxes and a flask from a hollow tree.

Soren nodded and started an elaborate series of spells that actually required his focus - a Thunder spell to knock a tree down, smaller ones to chop it, Wind spells to put the premature flame out and to guide the logs to the ring of stones, and then water spells to douse any flames in the forest. Then another spell to lite the intended logs. After a moment, he sprawled out in front of the fire, worried and pretty sure he was about to get dumped.

	Sable fills the kettle with clear water from the brook, fresher than anything they'd probably had to drink in England, and tasting of pine. She sets the kettle over the fire and sits next to him on a log, her arms wrapped around him while the water and bits of ice that and boil and the snow falls around them. (Reply to this)

	Her holding him was what eventually made him crack. "We should have told you, and I'm sorry, but we just filed the papers and they lapse in four months. So if you're pissed, we just won't, and I'll - I don't know what I'll do but I'm sorry." He turned his head into the crook of her neck, upset that he was such a wuss. (Reply to this)

She tugs him closer, huddled together in the fire's heat and light, against the cold.

"I was thinking," she says quietly, "let's not wait five years. I don't want to get married tomorrow, but... I can't wait that long. I love you, Soren. I live you in ways I can't find words for. I can see our children in your eyes every time I look at you, and hear them laughing every time you speak. I want to love with you and Cassie and Henn and all of us be one family forever. Not tomorrow. But soon. I want to start planning our wedding. I want to pick a date and find a dress and call Lulu my mom and let you call Miniver dad instead of uncle. What do you say?"

Sable holds him tight, ignoring the cold, kind of rocking him a little side to side.

"Why would I dump you?" she chuckles, giving him a harder-than-necessary bite to the ear... very like mamawolf gently correcting her underlings or mate. "You don't walk away from who you love just because they upset you. That happens. It'll happen again, I don't doubt, many times, since it is a habit you and Cassie have when you're allowed to be alone and use your brains together instead of your.... other things." She laughs and kisses him again. "I love you, Soren. I love you more than I have ever loved anyone, and differently than I know I ever will or can. Pick a date, then. When? I was thinking maybe March. I don't want to overshadow Cassie or be too close to Christmas..."

And like a surprised wolfpup, he yiped loudly at the bite to his ear. "I didn't - I was trying to be good to both of you. Filing the papers, there's a waiting period anyway, and I figured I'd discuss it with you after that. I'm sorry you had to hear about it from Henn, and I'm sorry it hurt you. And I like Valentine's. Nothing's good in February - everyone hates it - so it'd be nice to have our anniversary as the bright spot in a really shitty month. Can we tell your dad?"

He rolled on top of her to look in her eyes, smiling slightly. "In all honesty - I don't know what I did to deserve you. You're wise. Smarts are something that some people come by, but wisdom is given, I think, and you're just so important that - " He shrugged and stopped talking.

	She kisses him again, slower this time, before gently nudging him off her and tugging him back onto the log bench. "I have smoked tea. Yes, we can tell my father, and yours. I don't like Valentine's day, though. It's so.... overdone. February's fine, but maybe earlier? Or later? .......Is today a leap year?" (Reply to this)

"Is that that Japanese holiday that's like Valentine's Day?" She didn't know anything about it but that. "You know what... I like February. It'll be hard planning a wedding over the holiday season, but we could have it somewhere beautiful and hope there was snow... We should ask Cassie and Henn and everyone, of course, before we settle on it for certain, but... What about the 28th? Then every 4th year, we'll all four of us have our anniversary together... or does that sound silly?"
