He sat with that for a moment, rolling it around in his mind. It didn't come as a huge shock, especially after everything she'd already said...but still. "Drifted? I thought you too were...well, very close. Close to the point where I thought you might get married. That seems like a long way to drift." It wasn't meant as a criticism. He was mostly baffled, really.
"I'm really okay," he said, staring into the water glass at his rippling reflection before looking up with a wan smile. "Really." It wasn't a hundred percent true. He was still coming down off of Halloween even though it had been weeks, still suppressing the urge to run around at all hours of the night and exterminate every evil thing. It was a way to pass the time, yes, but not a particularly healthy one.
