Edward had picked out some of these thoughts from Renesmee when she had entered their home, but once she touched him, it was a whole different experience. Seeing the world through another's eyes -- seeing himself through another's eyes, a version of himself that was quite different from the way he was now -- it was extraordinary. He understood instantly why she wanted to meet in person.
Jacob Black... those images were confusing, but he would ask her later about it. The Volturi... they never had been a problem before, not since Carlisle had left them. Another piece of the puzzle he would have to solve.
Edward was pulled back by his brother's voice, and turned to him, smiling. "Everything she says is true. It's... it's quite incredible. I'm not sure how a human and a vampire can produce a child, but somehow, from her world, it happened."
He did not have the feelings of happiness that the Edward of her memories had, simply because he did not know of or love the girl's mother. But he could no longer deny that Renesmee was a Cullen.
A small smile, one that you would have to look closely to see, crossed his features. "I can't say that I will be the father that you had, or even that the father that you'd hope for -- but I can try my best, if you will allow that, Renesmee."
