who. Jamie Madrox and Mia Jesbar
what. Halloween times. Monster fighting and talking and things
when. During plot, let's say it's getting dusky
where. X-Factor, in NYC

There were Jamie duplicates everywhere and to the outside observer, it might have appeared as though everything was in chaos. There were Jamies patrolling outside the front of X-Factor, Jamies in the back, Jamies on the rooftop and at the windows. They were a small, slightly unorganized army all carrying blunt objects that could double as stakes. Jamie prime didn't trust his dupes with guns so none of them were packing heat. He was never sure when a crazy dupe would pop out and try to shoot anything in sight.

There were two dupes in charge: Jamie Van Helsing, the monster hunter dupe and Jamie, the horror movie buff dupe. They worked together, consulting one another on the best method of stopping certain species of zombie or vampire. So far, they'd been quite efficient in keeping X-Factor monster free, so Jamie-prime let them wander back and forth shouting orders at everyone.

This was how Jamie found himself carrying cloves of garlic down the hallway. "Alright," he shouted back at a dupe down the hall, "I'm coming. Shut up already!" It was when he was speed walking toward his goal that he nearly knocked into Mia. "Whoa. Sorry!" he said, twirling to avoid slamming into her.

It was too bad things were crazy again (she should've known crazy time would happen sooner rather than later), otherwise, she would've had time to be amused at and admire all the different dupes Jamie had created.

However, there were so many dupes, and she was focused on monitoring the perimeter with the Force, that she'd pretty much given up for now on absolutely identifying Jamie prime. Oh, there were a few that were easy to pick out of the crowd that were the most like him -- rather, they jumped out at her in the Force -- and this was one of them.

Which meant after she also got out of the way, she smiled at him. Because even with zombies and monsters and vampires running around, she couldn't help but smile around Jamie. Even when there were lots of him running around. Someone else might get tired of it, but she didn't. "Need any help with those?"

"Yes. Please." He handed some of the cloves over without waiting for her to say anything else. In the distance one of his dupes was shouting for him to hurry. "Coming!" Jamie sighed. Out of the side of his mouth, he said to Mia, "I get no respect here." Shaking his head, he motioned for Mia to follow and headed toward the voice.

Outside, it sounded like hell was breaking loose. People were screaming and monsters were growling or howling or breaking things. Jamie ignored it.

Mia took the cloves without question and followed him. She should really be serious at a time like this, really. And she was. But Jamie made her smile a lot. He was just too adorable. So were his dupes. And as long as she stayed focused on the mission and kept the hell breaking loose outside from coming inside, it didn't mean she couldn't enjoy the monster hunting and vampire staking with her boyfriend.

Any sane person might remark that she needed new hobbies.

"Oh, I stopped those mummies from coming in the basement again. I've told them 50 times their coffins or whatever aren't here, but they won't listen!" She rolled her eyes.

"Thanks," Jamie said, frowning lightly. He'd have to make some more dupes to keep an eye on the basement. "There weren't too many, were there?" The good thing about having a Jedi girlfriend was knowing she was capable of taking care of herself.

The pair passed a line of dupes that were standing in front of one of the wider windows on the second floor. One of them was tap dancing spectacularly, another was cracking jokes. All of them held tight to their weapons, which was more than a little bit of a relief to Jamie.

Eventually, they made their way to Van Helsing dupe, who snatched the garlic from them and hung cloves all around a window. "Finally!" He said, glaring at Jamie and Mia, "If a vampire had come while you two were chatting it up, we would have been in a very tight spot, indeed!" If one listened closely, they might have been able to detect a slight German accent in his voice.

"No, and they're too stupid to really be a threat. They're just smelly and confused. And really stubborn. You chop off one body part and it keeps moving around all on its own."

Mia tried to not smile at the Van Helsing dupe. Really. Not amused. "I would've saved you. Don't worry. I can sense if anything's coming." At that moment, her head turned worriedly in the other direction, then her face cleared and she turned back to the Jamies.

Van Helsing, the dupe, was not pleased by the concept of Mia saving him. He made a face and continued to arrange garlic. Jamie prime noticed the cloud that passed over Mia's face but relaxed when the tense look passed.

"So we're going to go into the basement and make sure nothing rises out of the floorboards," Jamie said. "If that's okay with Mia." He glanced at Mia questioningly while Van Helsing just shrugged them off. He wanted them out of his way.

Mia nodded. "Yeah, let's go. I've never been very good at playing the damsel in distress," she said to Jamie, though it was sort of to 'Van Helsing' over there too.

Before Van Helsing and Mia could get into a fight, Jamie prime was walking out of the room. He nodded at Mia, trying to get her to follow. "Sorry about him," he said quietly once they were out of the room.

Jamie passed one of his dupes and took the weapon the dupe was carrying. "Let's do this," he said with a little smirk. Things were tense, yes, but from the safety of X-Factor he wasn't terribly afraid.

Mia just smiled. "I don't mind," she said honestly. "I like him. But I kinda like teasing you and your dupes too."

She double checked her own weapons as they walked down to the basement. "I swear, if those mummies are back again..."

They went down some stairs and then down some more stairs and then they were standing in the basement. X-Factor's basement was spacious and just a bit drafty. Jamie hadn't been down here since he'd first purchased the building.

"Looks clear. For the moment." Jamie held his club at the ready, though. It was usually when things were quietest that hell broke loose.

"Uh." He thought it over for a half second. "Sure. A gun might be a good idea." The lights flickered and Jamie raised a brow. Yeah. Probably a good idea to have a few more weapons on hand.

Jamie took the gun and stuffed it under his belt. He looked something like a cowboy and was a little sad he didn't have a hat to match. "Yeah," Jamie said. The lights continued to flicker as... fog rose off the ground. "Oh Christ." There was a soft sound, like shuffling. And... was that moaning?

"Hey," Jamie said. To his credit, he didn't sound too scared. "Get closer. We should do this back to back so no one ... nothing ... can jump us from behind." The lights went out completely then and Jamie swallowed. He'd been through worse and steeled himself. "Also, your lightsaber would be good right now."

Mia was already backing up into position to cover his back when the lights went out. She pulled her lightsaber from her belt and turned it on, letting a comforting blue glow surround them.

"If you wanted to get close to me, you didn't need to bring me down to the basement with monsters to do it," she joked, lightly flirting. Then, "You are Jamie Prime, right?"

The shuffling and moaning got louder and shapes began solidifying. Mia turned serious, bracing herself. "If you want another gun, I've got a couple more."

"Yeah I'm the orig-" Jamie was smirking. And then things started to get really unnerving. He lightly pressed his back against Mia's. "Your saber doesn't get any brighter?" It would have been a lot easier if they'd been able to see. Jamie swung and there was the sound of something blunt hitting meat. "Oh!" He remembered Mia wasn't exactly familiar with horror rules. "If these are zombies, go for the head. Take off the head or damage the brain for zombies otherwise they'll-" there was another thump of Jamie beating something down "-just keep coming."

Mia bumped up the brightness a little bit, so he could at least see immediately around him, but... "It's not meant to light up a whole room, you know." There was the familiar sound of a lightsaber hum, then another sound as it slashed through something. "It's meant for stuff like that."

"Oh, really?" She sounded rather happy he'd said that. There was another series of hums from her saber, sounds of impact, then three thumps on the floor one right after another. "Thanks for that."

"I know," Jamie said. He swung his club in a wide semi-circle, only just getting glimpses of undead faces. "Oh," Jamie said, laughing in a quietly hysterical way, "That one has no nose." He'd faced all sorts of frightening situations but this was just creepy.

"Welcome," he swallowed. "Don't let them bite you, either. Or scratch you. That would be Very Bad. If there are too many, we run out of here." He cracked a skull with such ease, it suggested he might have been on a professional baseball team once.

"The Vong were like that. No noses," she said as there was another hum, slash, then a thump as a head hit the floor and a bigger thump as the body followed.

There were several species it was dangerous to get too close to, sometimes with or without weapons. She'd been in a few fights like that before, but nothing quite like this. And not as a Jedi. She was open to the Force to know where to strike next, so she could feel that Jamie was keeping his cool despite the creepy atmosphere. She appreciated and liked that about him. And despite the talking, she was focused on the fight.

"No contact. Got it." Then without warning, she immediately turned to the side and stretched out her hand. Two zombies coming up on their side were flung back to the far wall of the basement with the Force.

Jamie glanced over his shoulder. "God, that's a cool move." And useful. It was useful, too, but Jamie was more focused on coolness. He was hitting things more rapidly for fear of getting overwhelmed by zombies. There were three solid thumps as he slammed three zombies onto the floor. One head went rolling and he made a face.

"I'm ready for this to be over. You want to go somewhere when this is over?" Mia wasn't focusing on talking, but Jamie couldn't help himself. He liked to chatter.

"Duck exactly when I say to, okay?" Mia said as she slashed off or through the heads of several more zombies and kicked another one out of the way.

"Oh yeah. Definitely. Where you thinking? Mexico again or somewhere new?" she asked casually. Oh, Mia didn't mind talking while fighting, especially if it helped Jamie stay calm or something.

A few moments later, she shouted, "Duck now!"

"Got it." Jamie had the fleeting image of Mia accidentally cutting off his head with a lightsaber. It wasn't a nice picture. He'd be sure to duck whenever she commanded.

"Somewhere warm would be go-" he dropped down quickly, instinct taking over where his brain wanted to question. He realized there was one zombie that was crawling on the ground. He smashed it while Mia did her thing above him.

As Jamie ducked down, Mia did a graceful somersault over his head. It was something that she'd been able to do before becoming Force sensitive, and the Force only enabled her to take her gymnastic skills further and make them more graceful and complicated.

Even as she flipped over him, her lightsaber was already out in mid-air, singing, humming, slashing, and cutting off the heads of the zombies in a well executed move that could've only been planned ahead of time with the Force. Her lightsaber came too close to crossing the space right where Jamie had been standing moments before, which is why she'd had him duck. She landed right in the thick of a group of zombies that had been headed for them, taking them out in record time with well-practiced lightsaber moves that looked more like a dizzying dance than anything you might use for combat.

When she was done, Jamie stood. He gave her a Look that was highlighted by the shadows that danced across his face as she moved her lightsaber. "You could probably do this whole thing by yourself, huh?" There was a self depreciating tone in his voice.

In response, Mia reached for the handgun at her hip and shot over Jamie's shoulder, in the dark, into the head of a zombie that had been starting to approach him from behind.

Though she was barely breathing hard and hadn't seemed to break a sweat yet, she answered his question with a shrug and moved forward to take him by the hand. "Doubt it. It's much more fun with you anyway. Come on, I cleared the path to the stairs. We can head them off there so they can't surround us again."

Jamie glanced in the direction she'd shot her gun off in. Then he glanced back at her, a grin on his face. "Now you're just showing off." He made sure to knock any new zombies that slowly shuffled toward them back. As they ran, Jamie pulled out the gun Mai's handed him, turned and shot at something that'd been lurching toward her. He hit it square in the forehead. "I can show off, too. Nyah." He said playfully. And then he let out a little shout as something grabbed his foot. He kicked it away, but it had startled him. "Not a word," he said.

Mia just grinned playfully. "Oh, admit it, you think it's hot," she said as they positioned themselves at the bottom of the staircase. It was filled in under the stairs, so they couldn't be attacked from the back anymore.

"I didn't say anything. So, we were talking somewhere warm?"

She held up her lightsaber for light, and wishing for her blaster, pulled out her gun and picked off a couple more zombies.

Jamie had switched over to the gun, as well. There weren't enough zombies nearby for the club to be of any use. "Yes. Somewhere warm. What do you think of California?" Jamie shot at two zombies, hitting them down with surprising accuracy.

The lights continued to flicker on and off. Jamie could almost swear the moans were getting softer.

Shooting at the lingering zombies, Jamie really hoped this would be over soon. "Dragons aren't the usual horror movie monsters. It's more likely to be..." he stopped suddenly, "You know. Never mind. I don't need to jinx us."

As much as she loved her lightsaber, she still loved shooting. She picked them off while keeping a mental count in her head. "How many have you gotten so far?"

Mia? Competitive? Even with her own boyfriend? Perish the thought!

"Haven't really been coun-" Jamie was adding numbers in his head. "Twelve." He'd been shooting all the way to the stairs and then from the safety of the stairs. Jamie wasn't quite as competitive as Mia, though. Of course, he probably could just smack himself until his competitive dupe came out.

"Yeah. Hopefully this..." The lights flickered on longer and longer. The lightsaber wasn't even necessary to keep things illuminated. "I think it's ending." The last few moans and growls could be heard but no new zombies were popping up.

"Showoff," Jamie said, grinning.

"I don't think it's them... it's just what happens during zombie movies. Lights don't work. People get eaten." He shot the final straggler and then kept his eyes to the ground to make sure nothing else came out. "We should watch The Evil Dead sometime. Or Night of the Living Dead. Good movies. Classics."
