Malakai Chmelyk // 'Volos' ([info]volos) wrote in [info]utr_logs,

Entry tags:malakai chmelyk

Who: Malakai Chmelyk and Jack Sparrow
What: Meetings, old war stories, and other things
When/Where: Tonight ('before nightfall'), the outskirts of London at Jack and Bill's place.
Warnings: Two slightly crazed vampires start telling tales- likely PG-13 or so.

It did take Malakai the time he warned it might, to find the place, but he got there finally, sauntering up to the door and shifting the bag in his arms, so he could give a knock. He had to wait for a formal invitation to let himself in, one of the quirks of his kind. So, he stood, and waited.

It didn't take Jack long to answer, he was good at not waiting even when he was, and just at the moment was comfortable, barefoot on the hardwood floor, wearing jeans and one of Bill's t-shirts, this one with the slogan: "Occasionally I'm Callous and Strange" in a blocky Gothic print, "Ah!" He brightened upon seeing who it was (after all, it may have been one of Free's friends), "C'mon inside, make yourself at home, kitchen's to the right, parlor's to the left, Freedom's in the kitchen and comfy chairs are in the parlor."

Malakai smiled and gave a little bow in greeting, stepping inside with a look around. "Very nice place you have here, Captain. I brought the tithing for your dear Freedom, I'll drop those by her, and head to the parlor with the drinks. Might I get us glasses, while I'm in the kitchen?" He held up one of the bottles of vodka in offering.

There was another smile then, nodding, "Aye, might as well, Free knows where they are." He stopped to think about his for a moment, then shrugged, "I can come along if you like, she's rather excitable, especially when she's been indoors all day."

Another moment of thinking, smile going crooked, "Rather like a puppy, and just as prone to jumping on people."

"If you wish. Believe me, I've known my share of excitable dears." He headed off in the direction of the kitchen, stopping a little ways away from the young girl, offering her a little smile.

"And you must be the Free Jack and Bill both speak so highly of. I am Malakai, and very pleased to meet you," His tone was cordial, his accent very Russian. In truth, he was still much more used to speaking his mother tongue than the common English, and it left him with the air of someone much more formal than he really was.

The teenager with the laptop open on the counter beamed, her initial reaction, before she'd heard him properly was: "Jack GUESS WHAaa..." This trailed off, clearly, when she actually caught up with what he was saying, and more importantly, how he was saying it, "Oh. Hi. NotJack."

She grinned then, hoisting herself up to sit on the counter, legs swinging, "Nice to meet you, I keep hearing that people have his face, I just never met any of them before, and yeah, I'm Freedom, used to be a ship."

He smiled at her, giving her a bit of a strange look for the outburst, before nodding at the introduction. "Very interesting, dear. I'm afraid you're the first person I've met who was not a person, previously, so we're even," He reached into the bag, pulling out the bag of candy corn, and offering it out in lieu of his hand.

"I also remember hearing you enjoy these? Never understood that, myself, and I found the witch bought me a bag, for some sort of wry holiday joke. Might as well go to good use," A slight lie, but it was believable enough.

"Well that makes us even in my book!" She said brightly.

And at the candy corn there was a sound very much like: "HEEEE!" She didn't pounce, not really, but she was quite suddenly a lot closer, practically hugging the bag, just rubbing her chin on it like a cat with a favorite toy.

She gave Malakai a quick hug then too before ruffling his hair (something she was quite fond of doing to Jack, if only for the clicky beads) "I like you, you can come visit more often."

It was a strange reaction, but not one he was altogether unfamiliar with, and he grinned as he returned the hug as much as he could, giving her the bag without protest. "Well, thank you, darling. I was quite hoping you would approve. Now, tell me, if I were to be a glass in your kitchen, where would I be hiding? I've a rather nice vodka I tend to make friends over, and yet only the one bottle to go around. From what I hear, civilized persons actually drink the stuff from glasses,"

She blinked at that, looking blank for a moment, "And who told you that civilized people lived here?"

There was another grin a moment later, laughing and tossing the bag of candy corn to the counter beside the laptop and opening a cabinet, "I tease because they're pirates. Glasses, mugs, jam jars from when Anne brought over some stuff."

"Well, I try nto to assume otherwise, until given a reason, or properly inebriated," He smiled right along with her, shrugging a should as she spoke. "Whatever is easiest. If what you say is true, I'm guessing they won't be much use, anyhow. But I do try to at least hold up pretense, until I've gotten to know someone."

As she fished out the glasses, he cocked his head to the side- he was rather bad at judging ages, but didn't want to offend her by not offering, if she was mature enough. "Do you drink, dear? It is rather good, I'm certain we could spare a shot or two, if you'd like,"

There was another grin at that, "Not technically old enough, but Bill says that if I want some it's no problem as long as I'm at home." Realizing this wasn't actually an answer she added, "I'm good though, Jack probably needs it more than I do anyway, he found out that his... s-i-r-e is here."

Because yes, spelling things would make it so that Jack didn't know what she was talking about, sure.

There was another smile from Free, "I'll keep it in mind." She waved them both off then, "Go, talk, whatever, if Bill stops in here first I'll let him know where you are."

There was a small, mostly wry smile from Jack at that, "Believe she's trying to be rid of us." A shrug, "No matter, we've got th'comfortable chairs anyway, aye?" He accepted the bottle before leading the way down the hall to the parlor, there was a fire in the fireplace already and as promised, comfortable chairs, "S'not as if I consider th'woman my sire anyway. Left me for dead she did."

Malakai followed Jack off down the hall, moving to sit in one of the open chairs with a little sigh. "I figure the idea is a little unsettling. I can't imagine I would fare well if the old bastard showed up on me, here," There was very little love to lose between Kai and his sire- not that he was bitter over the entire ordeal, really. Just that the man hadn't done anything for him, more than find his first meal, and show up on occasion to cause trouble.

Calliope hadn't even done that much for Jack, Teague had, and even Teague still scared him, though he'd never admit it.

He shrugged, "After the initial shock I believe I've gotten over it." Another one of those wry, utterly Jack-like smiles as he poured them both a drink, curling up in a chair himself, "Bill's got you involved in his study?"

He was well-versed in the sort of subject change (the one where your options seemed to be 'follow, or violence will ensue'), and took the glass with a small smile, offering up a silent toast before taking a drink, then answering. He did have priorities, after all.

"He had discussed the make-up of the synthetic blood of my world, if that's the study you're referring to? I've tried to replicate it myself, to no avail. Granted, it's been the Sanguine equivalent of moonshine, anyhow, so I'm hoping now that I've found my distillery intact, I should make headway. If it's something else, no, I'm afraid I'm at a loss. I've been in a bit of a bad way, since realizing the Sanguine corporation didn't have the forethought to go multiversal." The last was said with a wry sort of smile, as he twirled the glass, watching the liquid slosh around slightly.

He nodded, "That's the one, that and his tracking of lines and things." He shrugged, "Been doing that for ages he has."

There was another smile at that last statement, "Well y'know better now and you'll remember to put that sort of clause into action when you get back, aye?" Jack, it should be said, had no idea how to run anything bigger than a pirate crew, and only a very minor knowledge of how corporations worked.

"He seemed interested in the way our particular brands of prejudices worked themselves out, but I never did sit down to explain it fully to him." Another drink, Malakai (like any good Russan native) used to going through vodka like water.

At the mention of him making some sort of action, he laughed. "Oh, really, the Supurbia crowd listen to me? No, no. It wasn't my corporation, by any stretch. I was just a vodka-maker in life, see, and as the synthetic was rather expensive, I had been working on a way to make a poor man's version for some time. I've managed to break down the chemical compounds used, but haven't quite gotten a workable ratio, of chemical to blood. The closest thing I have to business sense, is a stint as a gun-runner in the Cold war, but even that didn't evolve into much."

He nodded, taking another small sip of his own, Jack was no stranger to alcohol, and it had been said that he was drinking rum with his mother's milk. It was one of the few things that he could imbibe that didn't make him sick.

In fact, alcohol was quite helpful in taking the worst edge off the Hunger, as he'd discovered ages back, "Ah-HA, well it at least seems that you've fallen into good company here then."

Malakai rolled a shoulder, taking an unnecessary breath to let out in a longer, tired sigh. "Yes, well, it's a labor of necessity, considering all but one of my-" He made a face, trying to reach for an equivocal word in English, "partners? Also chose not to follow me here. And while I cherish the witch, it taxes him so, to give all that I need. It's the Sanguine, or resign myself back to a life I don't care to live, anymore,"

There was another small smile then, brow arching, "How's your taste for rum?"

Because Jack was a good host, and it wasn't as if they didn't have enough of their bottled stuff to go around, especially given as how it was much easier to keep in a climate controlled house than it had been on a ship at sea.

There was that smile again, the one that was wholly Jack, almost a living thing, really, almost with a personality of its own. He nodded once, unfolding from his seat, "I'll be right back."

And so he was, having taken only a quick trip down the hall to retrieve a bottle and a fresh pair of glasses, "Was Bill's idea in the first place, back in the beginning, s'easier to keep now, doesn't have to be kept near the stove just to keep it from turning." He said, as he cracked the bottle open, pouring them each a measure.

He shrugged once, settling back in his seat again, "I wouldn't begin to guess one way or th'other. But s'been bad enough that I've come to t'find th'whole crew missing even down t'individual parts." He shook himself then, taking a sip of the rum himself, "Not for a long time though. Very long time."

Before he'd sired Bill, even.

There was another shrug, making himself comfortable, "And when y'don't have to go without, why should you?" That was just one more thing to add to the list of reasons why he liked this place.

"After the great 'Coming out'," The wry tone in his voice suggested this was something he definately didn't agree with, "Diplomacy was rather thrust upon me. There were Laws preventing those of us past a certain age, a certain generation, from drinking from any human, willing or no, thanks to what it might do to 'our image'." In which 'Law' was significant of a Code, put forth by the Vampires themselves, and 'our image' was (to Malakai) a load a shit. "Before coming here, it'd been two decades since I'd had human blood."

Speaking of which, he gave the glass a cursory sniff before taking a drink, humming some as it warmed his throat. "Not bad. Definately not bad," Not the synthetic he was used to, but that was only a point for it, in his mind.

And another one of those wholly Jack smiles, nodding, "Far too long t'go without if y'ask me. Though I suppose y'had to at th'time." A shrug, "know what that's like well 'nough."

Though most of his doing without had been self imposed, since there wasn't any sort of governing body where he was from, or when for that matter, and here he and Bill were the enforcers, more or less.

"S'probably part've th'reason we've never gone and made ourselves known back home. Truth gets y'staked or set on fire or somethin', everybody wants t'be a hero."

Malakai took another drink, sighing. "The sad part of it was, we were seen as the lesser of the evils, compared to the dogs," Shapeshifters, as it were. "Most've them killed for sport- the realists at least saw we were hunting for food. Most never bothered to even kill, really, but decades of media apparently don't lie,"

He waved the hand not holding his glass, in a 'get on with it' motion. "Come now, I'm certain this isn't what you've invited me here to talk on. Don't let me bore you, now."
