Who: Malakai Chmelyk, Rurik Markov
What: Reuniting, feeding of the hungry, figuring out what the Hell is going on.
When/Where: Before sunrise last night, the hotel in Paris Rurik got dropped off in.
Warnings: So a vampire and a witch walk down to a bar. Which is to say, there's no telling.

Thankfully, after the slight scare of waking up in the wrong country, Malakai managed to get himself squared away, enough cash in his pocket (as always) to suit his purposes. He caught a first-class red-eye to Paris, doing a bit of searching to find the hotel in question. Of course, Kai's version of 'searching' was mostly barhopping, so it did take him until almost sunrise, to make it to the hotel. He tried to ask for his friend's room, although the desk manager seemed to be misunderstanding him.

"No, no. Rurik Markov," He slowed his speech, although it was still thickly accented, and the man insisted once again, there was no one there by that name. Muttering to himself in Russian, he stalked away, heading up the stairs to hunt the man down himself. It shouldn't be too hard- his power was unique, he could feel it in the building. It was just a question of focus, to limit it to a room.

Once he was at the door, he gave it a few harsh knocks.

Rurik had been half expecting Kai earlier in the night, though he ought to have known better. He ought to have hit the bars, looking for the vampire on his own, he would have found him far faster that way. As it happened, he'd fallen asleep on the sofa, which was comfortable enough, but left him with a crick in his neck.

He rolled his head side to side as he opened the door, unintentionally exposing his throat to his old friend. Careless, really, he realised, and raised a hand to his shoulder.

"Do come in, Kai," he said with a little smile.

The sight of the exposed skin made Kai have to swallow slightly, but even as hungry as he was, he contained himself simply moving when a space appeared into the room Rurik had awoken in.

"What alias did you use, at the desk? None of the ones I knew were right," He said it in Russian, too tired and hungry to focus on something else. It was their common tongue, Rurik shouldn't mind.

"I didn't check in. At least, I don't recall checking in." Rurik frowned. "Perhaps I'm not checked in at all then?" he mused, and scratched his head. If he'd taken the time to consider it, he would have been proud of Kai, for not pouncing him the moment he'd opened the door.

"Perhaps," The agreement was distracted, Kai trying to focus on the extravagant room, rather than on the thrum of Rurik's pulse, the familiar smell of his very power wafting through the air.

He'd been forced onto synthetic, as the humans became fewer and farther between, and so the scent of real, live blood was doubly enticing. But he wouldn't assault his friend, not needing to make any more enemies; especially considering he wasn't sure which one had trapped him as such, in the first place.

"Enough, old friend." Rurik stretched his neck. "Your self control is admirable, but we both know why you're here." He smiled a little smile.

He had no pretenses, where Kai was concerned. He hadn't seen the vampire for a number of years, and yet his body and his blood remembered. He could feel the blood rushing a bit faster in his veins, as if racing toward the surface of a wound, only there was no wound, only the anticipation of small pin pricks, made from Malakai's fangs.

His finger drifted over the long healed wounds, scars that he bore on his neck from repeated feedings. His blood carried with it a certain power that allowed him to feed his friend, and recover far more quickly than the average human.

"And I do think I might need your protection, at least until we figure out what the bloody hell is going on."

His eyes were locked on Rurik's fingers, as they touched the thin flesh of his neck, and before the witch had time to register it, Malakai was in his space, mouth resting on his pulse. He was still then, wanting to collect himself before he bit- it had been months since he'd tasted genuine blood, and he knew it would be an exercise in patience, for him not to drain the man dry.

Still, Rurik was right- the self-control was valiant, but soon outvoted by his primal urge, as his fang appeared and he bit down to start to feed.

Rurik gasped at the moment Kai's bite broke his skin. The blood thundered in his veins, deafening him, as it surged toward the suckling of the vampire's mouth. Rurik's strength allowed him to remain conscious, though his posture began to droop after a few moments, and he struggled to keep his eyes open. He felt no fear, his trust in Kai absolute despite the many years since they had seen one another and danced in the vampire's embrace. They were countrymen, as well as friends, rebelling together against the social norms of their respective species, and in truth, Kai was the only creature Rurik trusted.

The blood was utterly intoxicating, Malakai's eyes drifting shut to let him bask in the taste, smell, feel of it, overwhelming his senses. It had been so long, too long, yet he was just aware enough to pull back as Rurik's pulse slowed almost to the point of no return. He knew the witch would live, but he would probably be too weak to stand on his own, so Kai led them to the bed, setting the man down gently with hands on his shoulders to stabilize him.

"Easy, old friend. Are you alright?"

Rurik's eyes rolled back in his head. His tongue skated across his lips, and after a moment, he was able to bring his eyes to look at Malakai. He smiled a soft, sated smile. "I'll be all right, after a bit of a rest,' he murmured, voice lacking any strength.

"Alright. Alright," He hesitantly pulled his hands away, making sure Rurik could balance himself before heading to the windows, pulling the black-out shades across. He could feel the sun beginning to rise, and didn't want to put himself in danger. It was a common sign he intended to stay, at least until the other man was feeling better.

"Don't steal anything," Rurik managed to say in the moments before he drifted into sleep. He needed to rest, in order to rebuild his strength. His blood would replenish itself in just a few hour's time, if he rested fully.

The words got a chuckle, Malakai dropping down onto the lavish couch in the front part of the room, turning the TV on to amuse himself while Rurik slept. The sun was up, and while he could move through the earth to get somewhere if he had to, he didn't feel like wasting the energy, when he could help himself to the mini-bar. (Drinking, he reasoned, wasn't stealing. Not specifically.)

Rurik slept peacefully for several hours, waking well into the afternoon. He yawned and stretched as consciousness filtered in. The curtains were drawn, giving him a false sense of night, and it took him a moment to remember Malakai had come to visit.

He raised a hand to his neck, fingers drifting to the fresh bite. The wounds had healed over as his blood worked to restore his strength, though the raised bumps remained, a testament to years of repeated feedings. The act was nearly as beneficial to Rurik as to Kai, in a way, as it was the only intimacy Rurik allowed himself to experience.

"Still here, then, Kai?" Rurik asked, sitting up and leaning back against his pillows.

"All the towels still in the bath?" he asked, simply because he couldn't help himself. He didn't mind Kai dipping into the mini bar, the maid service restocked it daily, assuming he was actually registered with the hotel.

Malakai looked at him, deadpan. "Where, exactly, would I have taken them at one in the afternoon?" It was also a comment on how long Rurik had been asleep, but he wouldn't phrase it as such.

"Knowing you..." Rurik tilted his head, a little smile touching his lips. "Would you mind terribly calling down to room service? I could eat a horse, I'm so hungry, but a sandwich will do. Croissant, I suppose. If you'd order, while I freshen up."

A nod, as he reached for the phone. It took some aggrivatingly slow speech, but he managed to get someone who spoke English on the phone, having a spread sent up for Rurik.

His request of a bottle of Sanguine was met with silence, and he finally gave up, hanging up the phone.

Hearing the water run in the bathroom, he was almost tempted to go visit the other man- had it been any other 'friend' of his, he would. But given Rurik's... unique personal past (and personal talents) he decided to wait him out, under the pretext of being attentive for the room service.

Rurik emerged fresh from the bath before the food arrived. He wore only the robe, tied around his waist. He glanced at Kai and smiled. Seeing the other was like coming home, in a way.

"We ought to make sure not so much time passes before we see each other again."

"I do not see that becoming a problem, friend. I was looking for a change of pace, as it was. The Fall has left things rather bleak, back home." Russia, specifically the circles Rurik and Kai traveled in. Nothing else had been, or would ever be home for Malakai.

"I had been on my way to... shake things up, for the American Council, when I awoke on a plane at Heathrow. Dare I say, I should start being careful what I wish for." As if that would ever happen- Malakai was notorious for rash decisions, and high aspirations. A mark of his status as vampire, as well as a shred of his former human self.

Malakai dropped back down onto the couch, sipping at a glass of wine he'd had delivered with the man's lunch. Still, he made a little face; he was almost too used to the drink being infused, taking it straight was nearly too bitter.

With Rurik's words, he glanced up, a touch of concern on his face. "I... no, there isn't much left. The Council banded with the dogs to try and contain the hysteria, when the government started to fall. Now, there's enough deceit to make your head spin, and it was... well. Too much responsibility, if you understand," He was one of the Elders of his House, which made it his job to keep the peace. For one of his Race, it was difficult enough to find food, for their interpersonal skills, let alone be diplomats.

"I do," Rurik assured the other with a nod. He plucked the plate of food off the delivery tray and sat down with it, eating with deliberate slowness. He was one who savored his food, enjoying every bite. He remembered too well how it felt to wonder where his next meal would come from, in bleak times.

"Add to it all the mystery of what we are doing here, how we came to be in London and Paris, respectively. I have to tell you, Kai, I don't like it."

"And yet, there isn't much we can do about it, is there? Honestly, old friend... I don't believe there's much around that could harm either of us." Even less that could stand a chance against the two of them, together, but that was too sentimental for him. "I'm choosing to look at it as a new adventure. Once we find out what the Proud trash are doing with their synthetic, I don't think I'll have much problem at all."

"Still," Rurik started, then waved his hand. There wasn't much point in obsessing over it. He had no clue how he'd ended up in Paris, or who had arranged it. It simply was, and he had been put up in a very posh hotel room.

"Indeed, I suppose you're right, old friend."

He smiled, an almost feral thing, and held his wine up as if to toast. "That's the spirit. Besides, there is very little either of our worlds foolish enough to take on ones such as ourselves. Whatever it is, I have little doubt we can handle it." He took another drink, leaning a little closer to Rurik. It had been a while since he had allowed himself to be close to someone, just for the sake of being close. There were few people Kai let himself just settle around, but Rurik was one of the few.

There was also the fact there had been no apparent attempt to keep them separated. It was all very curious.

He snapped his teeth as the fingers drew close to his face, but made no move to actually bite- it was almost plaful. Almost affectionate. Malakai knew becoming overly close to the man would be met with resistence, but he was high off of the blood, and the wine, and this strange new place they found themselves in. He was just trying to unwind, after it all.

Kai was perhaps the only creature, man or otherwise, Rurik would allow to get so close to him. His past left him with a sour taste for affection, and a distrust of another's touch. Kai had always been the exception to the rule, in part because Kai understood and respected Rurik's personal boundaries.

The embrace of feeding was Rurik's intimacy, the call of his blood far stronger than his resistance to physical contact. Kai had never taken advantage of his vulnerability, for which Rurik was grateful, and because of that, Rurik was able to accept the playfulness of Kai's play-bite.

He rocked his head from side to side, stretching his neck, making his throat prominent for a moment. His hand drifted in to caress his collar, as he watched Kai for a reaction.

Seeing the offer for what it was, Malakai leaned in, brushing his nose against the pulse point, quickly replaced by his lips. Still, the most they did was suck slightly, no teeth; it was closer to a kiss, than a bite. For some reason, having Rurik trust him so fully was all the temperance Malakai needed, to keep him compassionate, keep him human with the other. This was intimacy, a test of trust between them, rather than a snack.

His eyes fluttered shut, and he groaned as the slight motion stretched the skin taut, made his pulse pick up just that much. He sat back, although it was obvious the decision was hard on him, if the way his lips pursed was any indication.

"I can look after myself, Malakai," Rurik gave the vampire a sideways glance. The Look was more a response to the idea of hunting, than anything else. Rurik knew exactly what Malakai was, and what it meant to be a vampire. he needed blood, which Rurik himself offered, freely, with no hunting involved.

It would do Malakai good, to exert himself to travel through the earth; an excuse to lose some of the energy, without fucking or maiming the next thing he saw. It would still be close, but a bit easier.

"I'm sorry, old friend. I will return, when I can." He wasn't sure hwo long the mood would last, but the statement was double-ended. He would come back, to Rurik, when he was safe to be around. But not before.
