Who: Ahsoka and Jamie(s?)
What: Moving in
Warnings: Here's hoping Heff!Dupe doesn't show.

Ahsoka didn't really have anything to unpack. She had her purse and that was it. She looked around the empty room. It was small with just a bed and desk, but she was used to the utilitarian rooms back at the temple. At least she didn't have to share this one with anybody. She'd caught a glimpse of a couple of the other rooms. Even Anakin's was pretty well decorated and full of stuff. She didn't know what she would use to individualize a room. It wasn't like she could find any Togruta art here.

She pursed her lips together, looking at the space. The Jedi didn't really have a concept of feng shui, but aesthetics in a space made a difference. Very deliberately, Ahsoka placed the pack of chewing gum from her purse onto the edge of the desk. You worked with what you had.

Jamie knocked on the door lightly. He'd waved Ahsoka in when she'd first arrived at X-Factor, but he hadn't really taken the time to talk to her. He figured it was time to say something. And after a dull day of paperwork, he was more than a little interested in doing something fun.

Ahsoka had taken Mia's room. Jamie tried to ignore this fact as he knocked. The room was filled with memories for him, but he had to move past that. "Hey, kid," he said lightly. "You there?"

She didn't respond at first, unused to the privacy. She wasn't accustomed to people waiting to be invited. "Yeah, come in," she said, turning to the door. She smiled in greeting.

"Hi," she said, waving. She shrugged a little sheepishly. "Like what I've done with the place?"

Jamie looked around the room, slightly confused. Then he caught the pack of gum. He appraised it with an expert's eye. "Nice," he nodded. Crossing his arms over his chest, Jamie made sure to not focus on certain spots of the room. "How are you settling in?"

She hadn't been at X-Factor long. She'd gotten the tour, and she'd grabbed a bite to eat. She was still figuring out the whole world, let alone the specifics of being at a detective agency. She found out that everyone she'd known was dead...except for the one that was a woman. "Oh, you know." She shrugged. "I have gum. Want a piece?"

"No thanks," Jamie said. He had to remember that she was probably feeling overwhelmed. The last young girl he'd taken in had been Layla, who'd always been capable of handling herself in weird and new settings. Layla wasn't the average teenage girl.

"So did Anakin show you around?"

"Yeah, a little bit," Ahsoka said, perching on the edge of the bed. "The basic stuff." She smiled a little when she thought about Anakin.. But she could be smiling at anything. Like...gum! Okay, she didn't have much to smile about, and Jamie hadn't made any jokes yet.

"He told me a little about the place. Like not to let you bump into walls." She raised an eyebrow, looking at Jamie. "Which is kind of a weird thing to say."

"Good." Jamie said with a nod. Had one of his dupes popped out, maybe one of them would have noticed how Ahsoka smiled at the mention of Anakin. Jamie wasn't that perceptive. Especially not when slightly distracted by the room.

"Heh. Yeah. You'll find out about that. If I ever... am weird around you, ignore me. I'm a mutant," he explained. "And you might not know what that means," he thought aloud. "I have powers. The kind that I was born with."

"Oh, that makes more sense." Anakin had mentioned a little about mutants, but hadn't explained the wall connection. That still didn't exactly make sense. "A little bit more, anyway."

"So, this place seems really cool. X-Factor, I mean." Her eyes were bright. She was already picturing settling in and working on cases with Anakin. "You probably could use more Jedi, right?" She looked up at him with big, Disney-shaped eyes. The picture of innocence, really. She batted her eyelashes a few times, as if to say 'PICK ME CHOOSE ME LO--' No, not that last one.

Jamie wasn't swayed. In fact, the eyes made him a little uneasy, if because they reminded him a little too much of Layla. "How old are you again?" Jamie asked, brow raised. If he'd smacked into a wall right then, a dupe might have popped out telling him to just let the girl on the team. It was inevitable. Things like this never panned out in Jamie's favor. He was stuck with another kid-stray and he might as well just get used to it.

"I'm old enough to be a padawan!" she said, crossing her arms stubbornly. There was defiance in her voice now and the puppy-dog look had been replaced with ferocity. "Master Yoda said it was okay for me to fight in a war." How bad could this place be? They were still using projectile weaponry.

Yup. Inevitable. You're so stuck with this kid, said a voice in the back of Jamie's head. Shut up, responded Jamie. "You didn't answer my question," Jamie said, rather evenly.

"Well.. If you want to count human years.. Get all caught up in how many times your planet orbits your sun.. Fourteen." Of course, Togruta age was measured in a very similar way. She was fourteen regardless of whose homeplanet she was on. But Jamie didn't have to know that. She didn't lie or anything.

"Right." He looked a bit satisfied. He'd been expecting that. "And how old are you in... um... no offense, what are you? And how old are you in ... that?" Jamie was going to win an award for eloquence later on.

She pursed her lips together. Jamie was a more difficult opponent than she had been planning for. "Togruta," she said, answering the question about her race, first. She didn't seem offended in the least. Growing up in the temple, the children learned about their native cultures, but they weren't cultivated in xenophobia or nationalistic (planetistic?) zealotry. The attitude she'd given him earlier had clearly been for show.

"On Shili, I'm," and she answered him in Togruti. She knew that wouldn't fly, though. "Which roughly translates to 'fourteen.'"

"To-gruta." Jamie pronounced it, making sure he got it right. For a half second, he felt that same sense of weirdness that he always felt when faced with the fact that aliens were real. It passed quickly enough.

When she continued to speak, he smirked victoriously. "I see. You're slick. I'm slicker, kid."

Ahsoka stuck her tongue out at Jamie. "Just because Sky Guy said mind tricking the boss isn't allowed." And she hadn't really practiced any mind tricks yet.

See how she said 'boss' there? Like it was a done deal? "So?" she asked, tilting her head and looking at him. "Am I hired?" It was so weird thinking about Jedi being hired into actual jobs, instead of just working with people and taking on individual missions.

"Mmmmm," Jamie drew out the sound. "No. You're not an employee. It's illegal to hire kids." He might have been enjoying this little back and forth. "But if you want, you can tag around with Anakin." Jamie imagined Anakin wouldn't be happy about this. Oh well.

She opened her mouth to argue, sure that she could find a way to get around child labor laws. She could use the Force to keep the law enforcement people away. She didn't have a complete disregard for the law, she just felt that the primary focus in any situation should be justice and peace. Things had to be made right, and she was capable of doing that. Inaction on her part would be morally wrong, and that overrode any human laws.

"But--" she started to interject. By the time he had finished, though, she was quite satisfied. "Okay," she said, smiling.

"Good. So it's settled." And, hopefully, Jamie wouldn't have to deal with things for a while - a while being a few hours until Anakin heard the news. "If Anakin gives you any trouble, you come to me," Jamie said, smirking. If not Anakin, Rahne would probably have a few words for him.

He shook his head and pushed the thoughts away.

Ahsoka grinned brightly, resisting the temptation to run over and hug him. She was supposed to be all calm and Jedi-like, which generally didn't include hugging men she'd just met. "Good! Thank you." All of that calm emotional control didn't stop her from grinning from ear to ear.

"Hey," she said, her tone softer and her smile fading. "Are you sure it's okay for me to have this room? I could take a different one if you want." She'd noticed his discomfort. "I mean, I'll have to move all my stuff, but I don't mind."

"You're welcome." Jamie didn't want to admit it, but Ahsoka might have been what X-Factor needed. Her energy was a little contagious.

"Oh, no. It's okay. I need..." he trailed off. "Are you using your Jedi mind things?" A pause. "It's fine, really." Knowing that she'd probably ask questions, he decided to clarify a little. "This room belonged to someone before. I miss her. But it's fine."

She shrugged, smiling. "I'm a Jedi. I know stuff." She hadn't been using her powers specifically. It was more a passive perception sort of thing.. One which Anakin seemed to lack, but that was okay. Less embarrassing for her.

"No tricks, though, I swear. You just seemed... like you miss somebody." Ahsoka was learning a lot about missing people, these days. Being told that her friends and Masters were killed.. She recognized the emotion in Jamie.

Jamie looked vaguely horrified when Ahsoka claimed to know stuff. "Please don't repeat that line. Ever." A pause. "Knowing things is great. Knowing stuff is bad. Don't ask questions, just do it." Too bad Layla wasn't here. She'd enjoy watching this.

"I do," he admitted quietly. "But it's fine for you to stay here. Make yourself at home. Get some stuff to fill it with. Not that the gum doesn't make it homey."

Ahsoka raised an eyebrow. "Ookay.." She didn't understand, but she wouldn't ask. She might ask Anakin about it later.

"Okay," she said, smiling. "I'll figure something out." She'd never decorated a room before. She was excited. She could already tell she was going to have a lot more freedom that she was used to having.

In the meantime, she needed to come up with a cool nickname for Jamie. Hm.
