Who: Henriette & Sable
When: Daytime
Why: Day-trip!
Where: Old-town New Orleans

Henn and Sable had decided to keep in touch, just so that they didn't have to rely on chance meetings through their boyfriends to see each other.

Their first outing was going to be a walk through the old parts of the city, with Henn playing tour guide. Just at that moment she was waiting for Sable to arrive, tying her shoes and making sure she had everything she needed in her shoulderbag, Kitten sitting on the back of the couch and watching the street below, feelers waving.

Taking a day off from the shop and leaving Someone Else to watch the place for a while, Sable arrives in due time at Henn's place, looking every inch the gypsy she was raised as, wearing outdated clothing and a messenger bag that probably contains a small universe.

"Helloooo!"

Henn was wearing what was comfortable, dark jeans and a band t-shirt with the sleeves cut off at the seams, "Good, you found the place, know it's kind of in a weird location."

Kitten, for his part, wriggled with something close to glee, sliding down from the back of the couch and flickering his way across the floor to wind between Sable's ankles before climbing up to his usual perch on Henn's bag, "Figured I'd give you the option, we can take the short way through the rebuilding sector and around the long way through the old town and the swamp, or we can do the reverse, whichever."

Sable gives Kitten scritches when he comes to greet her.

"Well, I haven't been to New Orleans since I was about the size of your little guardian, so..." She pauses. "How about the swamp route? My partner's always going on about his swamp. I'm curious why anyone would want to live in one."

She shrugged, "Depends, how much does he like snakes and gators and bugs and stuff? Constant noise, overabundance of life?"

That was the only reason she could think for living there, aside from needing someplace out of the way and nearly unknown to set up a base of operations.

She nodded, smiling and tugging her keys out of her bag, "Well let's go then, should be getting to old town just in time for lunch that way."

"There are no gators in his world. You need to hear it from him what it's like, really. It's... incredible. I'd think he was making it up, but I know better." She shrugs it off and grins. "Lead the way then, ma'am!"

She smiled at that, tugging the door closed and locking it behind them before heading for the stairs, "This was one of the first places that got built after the storm, we'll kind of bypass the worst of the wreckage on the way into the swamp."

It wasn't a long walk, really, before the city gave way to the wilds all around, the sidewalk giving way to a plank walkway, and after that a dirt path, somewhere between the planks and the dirt the sounds of the city faded away almost completely, the trees too thick for them to penetrate.

Sable trots along after her, admiring the scenery with open curiousity and snapping photos every so often.

"It's pretty," she says. "Did you grow up here?"

She nodded, "Sort of. I was born here, this world, or I will be, and I was raised part of the time at the Guildhall and part of the time by Jack and Bill in London, I could show you where it is, but my mom's probably there and she's not supposed to know about me, might break her brain."

"Oooh. Okay. Better not, then." She keeps walking along beside Henn. "So. How's things with my cousin?"

Henn wasn't the sort to blush, at least not under normal circumstances. This wasn't normal circumstances however, and she grinned, "Fantastic." That was all she had to say at the moment, since she did sometimes have a good TMI filter. Sometimes.

Sable does not.

"Yeah? So is he good in bed or what?"

That grin? The very nearly feral one? It was probably answer in and of itself, but she said: "Yes he is, and he's a quick study." This was apparently Very Important.

She raises a brow, but seems amused.

"I oughta tease him about that later. He seems like a good kid. I wish I knew him better than just being able to remember him as a baby. Because it was like... TWO WEEKS AGO." She hops onto a log on the side of the path and balances along it effortlessly.

She laughed, shaking her head, "And I'm coming from the opposite side of things, I'm used to being younger than he is. Not by much, and probably not even enough that it matters, but it still catches me once in a while."

At the log-walking she arched a brow, "How are you about heights?"

(Reply to this)

"To be honest, I think I should be younger than he is. A lot younger, if my calculations are right, which... lord only knows, with all the timejumping we all do, my dad too. But at the age I should be compared to him... I was dancing on the catwalk still." She grins. "Heights? I always wish I had higher ones."

Henn beamed at that, "C'mere, we'll take the highroad for part of the way, of course, this is supposed to be some big family secret, but it... kind of isn't anymore."

It only took a bit of poking around to find the right tree, swinging herself up into the lower branches, "C'mon up."

Sable follows like a pro.

"Tree roads? For real?"

She nodded, "Yeah, dates back to like, the old old guild, even before my mom's time, probably before my grandad's." Most of it was wide branches, some of it was planks and ropes, and none of it was visible from the ground.

Henn took a moment to get her bearings before climbing higher and starting out along a branch, one foot in front of the other, using a higher branch as a handhold, "Just step where I step, sometimes there's boobytraps."

She does, and does with all the caution and precision of a girl who was raised being used to get into small and precarious places 30 or 50 feet in the air since before she knew her multiplication tables.

"The guild... what guild is that?"

(Reply to this)

"uh... crap." She shook her head, "I'm swearing you to secrecy right now, since I'm not even supposed to know about it, really, since I'm only one of them by birth, never got marked, but the capital-T Thieves Guild."

She had moved onto a row of planks by then, mossy and weathered, but still solid enough, bridging the gap between two trees.

"Secrets are no problem," Sable assures her. "Trust me, it's a roadie's prerogative, too. The tabloid market would pay a fortune for everything in my head, and my mother could probably buy Poland with all she knows."

Sable tiptoes lightly over the planks, making barely any sound as she does.

"So I suppose you're not in the same occupation as your parents?"

She laughed aloud at that, shaking her head and taking a turn at the end of the planks, moving along branches once more, "Not hardly. I'm going through law school, have plans to be the world's most kick-ass defense attorney ever."

"A lawyer?"

For all her usual easy diplomatic manner, she can't mask her surprise at that. People Like That have always been very foreign to Sable.

Luckily Henn was used to that sort of response, and just nodded, "Yes. For the defense." Just in case that made any difference, sometimes it did.

"Honestly it started out as kind of the only way I could rebel, but then I found out that I kind of liked it, and I'm pretty good at it, mostly thanks to my parents' lines of work."

She shrugged, starting out sideways along a braided rope, sliding carefully and using branches above as handholds, "And now they're proud of me for it, at least, in my time they are."

She laughed at that, shimmying down a level once they got to the end of the rope, the next steps some combination of branches and half-boards, almost like stepping stones down one of the larger trees, "Yeah, but that's why we hire movers and bring things in the normal way, this is for quick escapes and evasions."

She laughed, tugging a branch out of the way and pointing down, "And swampy." It was almost a lake below them at that point, covered with a thin layer of leaves, but definitely more than just soggy ground, "And it adds to the whole air of mystery, being able to drop down out of nowhere and vanish back into it just as easily. Smoke and mirrors, really."

"That... does sound like something that would appeal to Judah. And just be kind of fun in general." She peers over the edge and drops a penny into the water below to see what happens.

(Reply to this)

[info]not_that_henri

She watched the penny hit the surface and then sink, the ripples causing the layer of leaves to rustle, "He's the partner you mentioned before? The one who lived in a swamp?"

She figured as much, but it was always good to have full information.

"Cool." She said, grinning and moving another branch to get her bearings once more, she knew how to read the markers of course, but sometimes they got moved around, "Alright, nearly to the end of the highroad and back to the lowroad."

It was another wide branch and another narrow plank before she was sliding down to the ground again, "Bring him by sometime, be happy to give him the tour too."
