Kimber had made a stop on the way to pick up popcorn. She was still wearing her big pair of sunglasses that were a half-hearted attempt at anonymity. On her arm was a bag holding the popcorn and the dvds she'd brought over. Buried further down were some sketches and her costume.

She knocked on the door to Doug's house and waited. She was nervous. It took a lot of guts to tell somebody her secret; she still hadn't told her boyfriend. She wouldn't have told Doug if she didn't need him to help her.

Doug slid to a halt at the door, disheveled and smiling.

"Hey! Hi!"

He opened it as he spoke, grinning wryly.

"Come in. Please!"

He bounced and stepped aside.

"Welcome to my humble abode."

The hall from the door was faced with several doors, all open and leading to a living room with a big screen TV and a couch, a messy bedroom, a very clean bedroom, a kitchen, a large closet, and more. The hall itself had subdued lighting and clean carpets in reds and browns.

"Hey," Kimber said, smiling. It was the first time she'd seen her friend in quite a long time. She'd been worried about him when he'd gone missing. "Thanks," she said, stepping in. He seemed really.. different. Maybe he was just more comfortable at home. That was understandable.

She followed him inside and toward the living room. "Wow. Nice system," she said, looking at his uber high tech entertainment center. He had a bunch of boxes, and she wasn't even sure which was the DVD player. "Maybe you'd better put this in," she said, handing him the Diamond and the Illusions DVD set. She figured if they got to talking, they could just leave it on in the background.

He smiled and punched the buttons to open the DVD player. He had spent a few hours figuring out just what he had done to them when he was in weird headspace land, and now he knew, but the technology still seemed odd to him.

He grinned as he punched it up.

"How are you? How have you been? It's been crazy. Uhm... could I get you something to drink?"

He was a little nervous.

	She smiled. "I'm okay. Yeah, things have been crazy all over, I think." Okay, the nervous babble she was a little more used to. He still seemed smoother, though, at least to her. "Sure, I'll have some Diet Coke or something. Hey, I'll go in there with you to pop the popcorn." She got up to follow him. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

He nodded.

"Come on. It's this way."

He led the way into the kitchen, feeling jittery as he did so. Shiny appliances were everywhere.

"Ah, the popper is over there."

A shiny new popcorn popper stood next to a food and shake mixer, and under a microwave.

He slid over to one of two refrigerators standing in the kitchen and pulled the door open to show lots of soda in the bottom, along with bread and a few other things... but mostly soda.

"So, ah, what have you been up to?"

He grabbed them both liter bottles and opened them far enough to pop the seals, then handed hers over.

She followed along. "I'm not going to blow anything up, am I?" she asked, a little nervous about trying to operate anything in Doug's house. She figured every little thing had to have been modified to do run itself, or something. She opened the popcorn and started the popper going.

"Not a whole lot," she answered. "My tour got postponed, so I've just been taking a little break." She frowned a bit. "Carrie asked me to lay low while the Joker is out, so I've been staying in, most nights." It was frustrating, especially when she watched other people like Ollie go out. She felt like she wasn't doing enough. "I really doubt the Joker's paying much attention to crimefighters in London anyway, but Carrie asked, so." Kimber shrugged. Carrie had been going through a rough time, and Kimber didn't want to upset her further.

"Maybe I can have you work on some of my appliances at home," she said, looking around the kitchen while the popcorn cooked. Then she saw the thousand buttons on the microwave that looked like it would take a nuclear physicist to operate. "Or maybe not," she said, grinning.

She nodded, looking a little wistful. "Yeah, Carrie's great." She sighed softly. "Things have been weird lately, though. I mean, I'm sure it's just.." Kimber was sure it was just because of all of the family stuff going on with Carrie. Bruce and everything. She had to keep telling herself it wasn't personal. She just needed to give Carrie time.

	"Sure, if you like? I can make them zooom faster." He grinned as he sipped. "That is just an experiment. It's not as complicated as it seems." He arched an eyebrow. "Oh? Ohhhh. Kimber nodded, smiling some. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm sure you're right. It's just rough. I feel kinda guilty being happy when she's going through this, y'know?" She leaned against the counter.

When she'd first found out about what happened, Kimber had been upset, on Carrie's behalf, she guessed. She'd canceled dates with Ollie because it didn't seem right to have fun while her best friend was so distraught. But after a couple weeks, with Carrie not calling and Kimber being so out of the loop, she started getting back to her normal life. What else could she do? She wanted to support Carrie, but Carrie wasn't letting her.

	He smiled, listening, eyes on her, seeing her, and seeing what she did, hearing her, and how she spoke. He could not help but see patterns now, in everything and everyone, all the time. He smiled, a touch of sadness in it and nodded. He did not want to see patterns in people he knew. Ever. "I understand. But you have to live, and be happy." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Yeah. I mean, I can't ignore Ollie forever." As soon as it was out of her mouth, she felt another surge of guilt. She hadn't even been thinking about it before, but she was pretty sure Doug had a crush on her and she'd told him she wasn't ready to start dating seriously, and then she went and started dating Ollie. What would Doug think? He already had kinda low self-esteem.

"I, um. Doug.."
