Karen smiled, nodding she gave both their hands a squueze. "The show is at 1, so we have time to eat and nap maybe, change our clothes before it." They were about a row away from the car now, but she paused when she heard something like a roar. The top floor of the garage was still a couple up, it was unusual to hear something so clearly from the top of the building.
And then the ground shook and she looked up, dust sprinkled into the air as the ceiling started to crack and collapsed not far off, the building was coming down. They were on the ground floor, so she wasn't worried about falling, but she knew whatever was coming down would come down on them. She looked frantically around, remaining calm for them. "Jesus," she spotted and SUV and hurried the girls over, kneeling down. "Quick, crawl under the car, don't ask questions, just go." She laid to slide under herself but felt her heart leap into her throat when she saw her expanding gut would keep her from doing so.
"Oh fuck," She made sure they both got under it safely before laying on her side so her abdomen faced them and was somewhat shielded from the mass of falling debris. The shaking continued and was harder for five or maybe ten minutes. Then everything was silent but the air was full of dust, hard to breathe, Karen coughed, managing to get two Kleenex from her bag she handed them to them. "Hold that over your face when you breathe, are you girls ok?"
