Who: Calliope Sedant and Johanna Barker.
What: Alternative foodstuffs.
Where: Calliope's apartment.
When: This evening.
Warnings: Blood. PG-13.

Calliope had paced nervously after he chat with Sweeney. Once Johanna had agreed to a talk upon her arrival home, it hadn't soothed the vampire's jangled nerves at all. She was about to ask the young girl - who was still growing accustomed to freedom, and after such a leap in time - if she was all right being a blood doll.

She was feeling something she hadn't felt in a century. Guilt.

She didn't take long to return after posting her last message, another twenty minutes, maybe as long as a half hour with traffic being what it was.

In any case, the elevator still made her giddy, and she was carrying the box with supplies she'd purchased under one arm, just setting it to one side of her bedroom doorway as soon as she was inside, "I'm home."

"How was your day, Johanna?" Calliope's eyes smile where her mouth doesn't, and she stands just outside of the young girl's bedroom. She has her hands behind her back, and she watched the young girl's movements. She was graceful even if she was unaware of it, and a pleasure to watch.

"Quite nice, thank you. I slept rather late, and then remembered I needed new thread and a few new brushes." The mural over the windows was coming along nicely, an apple tree apparently, in all seasons, she'd needed the brushes for detail work, "And then stopped by the cafe to read once I'd done that, and that's where I got distracted."

That made Calliope smile. "That sounds like a wonderful day. What sorts of books do you read?" If she'd read the sorts of things that Calliope had read in her time, it would save a lot of explanation.

She smiled again, going to get a pair of books out of the box, "It was the girl that I noticed first." She said, "And then I found it was the second of a set and had to get the first as well, they're... well... they're quite different than what I was allowed to read at home."

"I can only imagine." Calliope's eyebrows raised, and she moved to sit next to Johanna on the bed. "Vampires. Do you like stories about them? I remember reading Dracula. It changed my life."

Well. Not as much as some things, but she had loved it.

She beamed, "I didn't really understand a lot of the language at first, I mean, I could read the words, and I knew what they meant, but they didn't seem to fit right, but things started to make more sense as I kept reading." Likely whoever she'd been was filling in the gaps in the progression of slang and colloquialisms as she read.

"But they're quite..." A pause, trying to think of the right word, "Exciting, I suppose, and rather sensational."

Most of what Johanna was saying fell on deaf ears. Calliope sighed and felt her hands start to wring slightly. "If I told you they were real - that they exist here - what would you say?"

Her brow furrowed at that, falling silent, fingers just trailing along the edges of the spines, "I... well I don't really know, is that even possible?"

"Yes. It is. I didn't think it was either, until I met one." Long, pale fingers have knotted in her skirts, and Calliope almost didn't realize they were hers. It was odd. She stood up to make herself regain her courage, and turned to face the young blonde. "That was ... oh, I don't even remember anymore, but it was when Georgia was still a colony."

Her brow furrowed once more, blinking, "So you... that's..." Things were swiftly falling into place, things that might have seemed like oddities, but that she'd just taken in stride, Calliope's being nocturnal was right at the top of that list.

"I see." She finally concluded, quietly.

Calliope held up her hands, palm-side toward Johanna, in a gesture of peace. "I'd never feed on you. Ever. Not unless you asked." She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose, realizing that Johanna probably wouldn't understand why anyone would ask for that. "It's possible to drain just a bit from someone. I've been told it feels quite... well, good. I took you in because you remind me of myself. Still getting used to having wings."

And that was where things stopped adding up again, but sheer curiosity took over, as it often did, "It's something you need isn't it? But you didn't want to scare me off." Which likely would have happened before, and really could still happen, but she was more intrigued than anything else, finally nodding decisively, "I'd like to help."

"It's - yes. It's food, and air, and water all in one. I don't need to breathe, and I don't need to eat food like you, or drink like you, but - yes. I need it." She sighed and sat back down next to Johanna on the bed. "And you're right. I wanted to help you, but knew you'd run away if I told you then. And I know there's much scarier monsters than me." Which wasn't entirely true - Calliope had likely killed enough people to fit a middling sized country. But she liked Johanna and wouldn't harm her.

She reached out to take Johanna's hand. "Are you sure? I won't - you wouldn't become what I am. Not from this. But I want to make sure you're certain. I'd be biting you on the wrist or neck. Your choice."

Her head tilted again as she listened, she'd learned mannerisms from her birds if nothing else.

She nodded as Calliope settled again, "I'm sure. You've shown me a great kindness and I'll do whatever I can to repay that." Her brow creased slightly once more at the options, "Is there any real difference?"

"I'd prefer your wrist. Your neck is a bit too - well, it's a bit more erotic, and you're a proper lady." If vampires could have blushed, Calliope might have. Pale fingers moved up higher on Johanna's arm, finding the pulse there and sighing.

There was another quiet little, "Oh I see." Almost mousy, really, settling just a little more solidly, trying to stay relaxed, reminding herself that there was nothing to be nervous about.

This didn't work quite as well as one would hope, but it was easy enough to tell that she was trying to relax.

Calliope squeezed Johanna's hand before raising the girl's wrist higher. She reminded herself that she was not feeding to kill, and was glad when she didn't feel sleepy.

Her lips brushed over the skin, teeth gently pushing into the skin. She moved quickly as to not hurt the girl, eyes fluttering closed as she swallowed.

There was a quiet, surprised, little sound, not quite a gasp, but not really anything else either, and she relaxed considerably as soon as she realized that aside from the initial, and already faded, sting, there was no pain.

She knew she should be feeling drowsy at the very least, but she was too curious for that as well

Making sure to keep track of Johanna's heartbeat, Calliope made herself drink in a more ladylike way than she normally would have. Johanna was her guest, and that was important to her.

After a few moments, she felt Johanna's heart begin to slow, and that was her cue to stop. She pulled her fangs out of the skin, licking the wound gently to heal the skin. Sitting back, she licked her lips and smiled. "Thank you." Her skin had more color, and she didn't look nearly so pale.

She covered a yawn then, shaking her head, "I apologize, seems the week's been longer than I first expected." It was a lot to take in, sure, but she was doing quite well for herself, settling into the new time and the new place as easily as a fish to water. If somewhat different water, warmer perhaps, or colder.

"It's fine. Being fed upon makes a body tired. If you'd like to sleep, that's fine, just promise me you'll let me order you some food once you wake." She stroked Johanna's back and smiled.

Another stifled yawn, and a smile, nodding, "I would appreciate that, thank you." She finally concluded that while it might not have been as glamorous as it was in the books, it certainly wasn't bad, and had been, in fact, quite pleasant.

She probably hadn't even noticed that she'd canted sideways against Calliope at the moment, apparently perfectly comfortable using the other woman as a pillow for her nap.

Calliope took a moment to stroke Johanna's hair, kissing her on the forehead. Once the fleeting moment of tenderness had passed, she picked the girl up and placed her properly on the bed. After finding a blanket, she covered her up and sighed. It hadn't been terrible; Calliope's own hunger had been sated, and Johanna didn't seem traumatized. But it still felt odd.
