Remy had found it strange when he, a thief, became a lawyer upon arrival, snide comments about both professions aside. The man he replaced had had a robust reputation, which made the transition smooth and with few financial hiccups, and what Remy didn't have in experience and this side of the law, he made up for in reading people and playing to a crowd. His position here was secured and his planner full of cases and court dates.
Which meant his office was also full of cases. Elegant mahogany and brass shelves and comfortable chairs had been swamped (and as a Cajun, he could say that) with files, journals, court notes, briefings, contracts, books and folders. One good sneeze or earthquake and the precarious ordering would be chaos. At least the floors were empty, the cleaners had threatened him over that. He stole from people, cracked their sorting patterns to find the goods. He never had enough stuff to need to learn a system!
Remy was sitting at his small mountain range, sorting through interview notes for the last two cases and idly trying to find his espresso cup. It might be in his drawer, for all he knew. |
