He wasn't even sure how long he'd been staying with Kezia, avoiding Kai. He'd thought, at first, it was better that way. Kai was upset, with good reason. Rurik didn't care to get into a confrontation with his lover, who also happened to be his sire. Rurik was by far the stronger, being a vampire infused with witch's blood. He would never forgive himself if he hurt Kai, and he knew it was possible, given the heightened emotions they both felt around Kezia. But the months that had passed had given Rurik time to think, and his thoughts reminded him daily if not hourly, how alone he felt without Kai in his life. He felt an obligation to protect Kezia, in in a sense he loved her, but he was not then nor ever, in love with her. The loyalty of his true love was laid with Kai and only Kai.
After a brief conversation on the boards, Rurik made his way home, to Kai. He arrived at the door, and though he held a key, he raised a fist to knock. He would give Kai the satisfaction of opening the door. |
