The Joker ([info]dogchasingcars) wrote in [info]utr_logs,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:candy quackenbush, donald w. blackburn, sweeney todd, the joker

Who: The Joker and whoever wants to talk to him, God help you.
Where: Prison! Jail, actually.
When: Just post the epic Kicking Ass and Taking Names thread. He got his ass kicked, but not his name taken.
What: An Open Post! Shocker. Want to kick his ass and call him naughty names and beg him to spare your family? Go for it. Want to talk to him one on one just for kicks? Go right ahead. This for the people who wanted to talk to him in person, but haven't been able to yet.
Warnings: So far? Swearing.

Jail time. He'd known it would come to this. Just like back in Gotham they were too scared to move him into the prison with the rest of the inmates, choosing to keep him downtown until they could get him to trial. Hadn't they learned yet?

Right, he forgot. Fresh police force, didn't quite get the joke yet. That was just fine. He seemed perfectly happy to sit in his cell, listening to the clattering of fellow inmates throwing themselves against the bars and calling for him to just get close enough for them to tear off his ears. A couple threatened to fuck him silly, and a couple begged to join his club.

He didn't appear to be affected by any of this. No, he was watching the police officers pacing at a safe distance, watching him like a tiger at the zoo. Pretty from far away, but don't put your fingers inside Hee. It was flattering, really.

And he was thinking. So there were at least two of them backing up Bats, with more waiting in the wings. Now he had people to start from.

That had been the whole point, of course. Blowing up a mostly empty building and calling out every superhero type he could think of? He'd practically sewn a target to the back of his coat. Now he knew what they looked like, what they sounded like, and that they cared about each other. He knew how they fought and how they thought.

It was only a matter of time.

And when, a few days into his incarceration, he saw the police officers studying a paper and glancing over at him like they didn't want him to see what was on the front page, he got mighty curious. He asked very politely to see the paper.

They slid the front page through the bars. He pinned it against them with his hands and read the headline.

Then he started to giggle. And the giggle went to a laugh. He fell to the ground and began writhing, the police officers staring on in horror. The paper had fallen over his face when he'd collapsed in his laughing fit, and when he sat up it fell into his lap. "DON'T YOU GET IT?" He asked. "DON'T YOU SEE? OF COURSE, OF COURSE, OF COURSE!"

He fell back again still laughing.

Bruce Wayne. Of course.

Candy Quackenbush had had enough of hiding. She hated it. She and Boa had gotten restless, gotten angry, and she wanted to confront the man that had hurt her new friend in person. If he had a crush on her as she suspected (as much as it made her stomach bottom out), she hoped she might be able to barter one or two people's safety.

She'd worn what she'd been stuck in since he called her out, but had washed her clothed. The police looked at her and asked her to repeat herself three or four times. It was probably the first time a petite sixteen-year-old girl in jeans and a black tanktop carrying a bag of food. After she continued in her request, they shook their heads and inspected the food to make sure she wasn't sneaking anything in. Briefly, she wondered if they were going to test it for poison or anything, but when they didn't, she realized that they probably didn't care.

Candy was lead to a visitation room with cameras in every corner and guards just outside the door. Before the Joker arrived, she murmured a spell that coated her body in feathersteel: a lightweight, invisible, skintight coating that functioned like steel armor. She didn't want to be careless, and who knew what he was capable of.

He was escorted inside by two rather heavyset police officers--it seemed that the NYPD wasn't taking any chances. Escorted? More like thrown--he was tossed inside and the door was shut tightly behind him, with only an inquisitive look at the girl who actually wanted to visit The Joker before the door was shut.

He rubbed at his wrists, which were, in his defense, red raw. "Ow!" he said, with the tone of a teenage valley girl who'd been handed the wrong outfit. "Jeez, you could attempt to be more gentle--"

Then he spotted Candy. His tone, posture, and expression completely shifted. His eyes lit up, and he grinned. "Hi," he said cheerfully.

It was funny, seeing the reality of the man who everyone was so terrified of, who even the police refused to turn their back on. He was shorter than he was made out to be, for one, though some of it could be attributed to his hunched posture. He was standing straighter now that Candy was in the room, but he still couldn't be taller than 5'8", tops. Skinny and lanky on top of that, his makeup was flaking off after several days in jail. He looked even dirtier than usual, like the cops didn't even trust him to give him the chance to shower.

"I didn't expect any visitors," he confessed, his tongue flicking out over his lips. "Is that...food? For me?"

He was still a lot taller than Candy, who topped out at 5'3" when she held herself straight. She sized him up without moving, clearly - and oddly - unafraid. He reminded her of Carrion, and she knew she had nothing to fear from anyone who reminded her of the Lord of Midnight. Or so she told herself. Perhaps her lack of fear came from ignorance, or maybe some odd lack of care about herself. Because she wasn't there for herself, she was there for everyone she cared about.

"It's just a sandwich and a soda," Candy murmured, moving to the table that was in the middle of the room. "I didn't know what you'd like, so I just got you a couple. And I hope Coke's okay." She pushed them over to him before moving over to him. Feminine charms. She swallowed hard, thinking of what Remy had said, and moved to gently wipe off some of the errant makeup from Joker's cheek with a careful thumb. "They should let you shower, Jack."

He slid into the chair at the table and took a sandwich from the bag, unwrapping it. "Mm. Egg salad." He shot her a look. "My favorite. You must be psychic." He took a bite to make his point.

When she wiped some of the makeup off he didn't move away from her touch, but didn't quite move into it either. He was a little touchy about his makeup, even if she was a sweetheart. "Showers are for the well-behaved and nonthreatening," he protested, half-smiling. "I'm far too scary to be given showers."

She smiled a little as he ate, moving her hand back to her jeans. She didn't rub the makeup off onto the denim like she wanted; she was fairly sure he'd take that as an insult. She'd wait until she was outside. Instead, she sat down on the table, folding her legs underneath herself Indian-style.

"You're not that scary, you know. And honestly, you'd be less scary wet and naked." She blinked as she realized what she'd said could possibly be misconstrued as innuendo, but tried not to betray the epiphany.

He grinned, showing off yellowed teeth. "No doubt about that," he said, taking a thoughtful bite of sandwich. "So...you like wet and naked, then?" he asked, pulling the coke from the bag and popping the top. He was putting the food away with gusto, but it was deserved--he hadn't eaten in days. It wasn't that they hadn't been feeding them, it was that he'd refused to eat their food. He'd been too busy thinking and staring at them spookily. He loved the faces they made when he didn't blink for an hour.

"Not with you." Candy pushed herself off of the table and moved a bit away, leaning against the wall. "I've already told you. I can worry about your safety as a human being and not be madly in love with you." She folded her arms and watched him. "If you want a shower, I'll try to talk to the guards."

He finished the sandwich, licking his fingers. "Don't think they'd take too kindly to that," he said, smiling. "I might try and...escape. While naked. I'm not sure where the logic is in that, but hey, that's their problem. Besides, I just can't take a bath without my rubber ducky, and I left him back at the warehouse."

"They could always leave the cuffs on you." Candy couldn't help smirking faintly at the idea of them just spraying him down with his clothes on. "So. You were planning on this the whole time, weren't you?" She closed her eyes for a moment and sighed. It bothered her, being so comfortable with evil.

Jonathan had told him to stay away. He's crazy. He's unpredictable. HE'LL BURN YOUR LIFE AND EVERY PERSON IN IT LIKE A CANE FIELD IN A HIGH WIND.

Psh. Sure he would. Plus, he was pretty sure that he'd heard that last one somewhere, and not from his boyfriend.

Donald was currently sitting with his hands folded in the lobby, keeping his eyes fixed on the filthy linoleum floor below him. Ew. Someone had spit their gum out right onto the ground.

After about five minutes, he was escorted through a metal detector, frisked, and led to the visitation room. And there he sat, staring at the ceiling, ignoring the cameras around him. He had to admit--this was a pretty scary. Even though he was pretty sure he was relatively safe. Pretty sure.

((LMFAO. NICE.))

The Joker was led in and handled with little gentility or sympathy. The guards slammed the door shut behind him, but kept a close eye on his movements through the door. Paranoid bastards.

He wandered over to the table, collapsing into the metal chair across from Donald. "Hiiiii," he crooned, smiling. "So nice of you to visit. Haven't seen alot of people drop by."

Donald mustered a tiny smile despite flicker of sadness in his eyes upon hearing that.

"...seriously?" He asked. "Well...here I am, if that makes you feel any better. And--OH."

The OH came from nowhere, and he reached over the table to hand him the one object he was permitted to bring in--a sort of sad-looking, slightly wilted yellow daisy.

"I brought this cuz I know how much it sucks in these places and I figured it'd be nice to have something to cheer you up." He explained, tucking his pale hair behind his ears sort of distractedly.

((LOL I DIDN'T THINK YOU WERE AROUND. I'm heading over to Rachel's, but I'll get on as soon as I get home.))

He took the flower and twirled it in his fingers, looking up with a wide smile. "It's PERFECT," he said, and tucked it behind his ear.

"You have a lot of experience with places like these?" he asked, carefully arranging the petals of the flower as he spoke. "I'm not a big fan of them either."

{{NOOOOOOOOO}}

Donald relaxed just a little as the Joker accepted his gift, but then shook his head.

"No. Not with jail. I was in a hospital for a while, but I was allowed to run around and stuff like that. This just kinda sucks." He said, swinging his head around to examine his ugly surroundings.

"No running around for me," he said, glancing pointedly at the door, raising both eyebrows. "Might be dangerous, you know." He licked his lips, shrugging. "Nothing I can do about it. However...I was hoping you could go talk to a friend of mine. Maybe bring me something else to brighten up my day."

Busy schedule notwithstanding, the barber was given the chance to visit, and so he took it.

Sweeney swept into the room, having been smart enough to leave his ladies at home, and sat quietly in the seat while he waited for the Joker to arrive. He had, however, brought with him a fine gift -- He was no sympathizer to the Joker, but he'd printed out all the Joker-centric threads from the Forum so that the other man could read through them at his leisure. Or make something of the papers to keep himself occupied. He took a seat with the neat folio of papers on his lap and waited for the jolly man to come in.

Once he did, Sweeney stood and offered his hand. He was a thin man, himself, but taller -- at least 6'0" -- and well dressed, though not in his usual Victorian attire, but a proper suit, his hair pulled back into a tight, short tail at the nape of his neck, though the white streak was still very prominent. "After a measure of time, one gets the impression that you're some sort of demigod, sir." He mentioned by way of a 'hello', his words spoken in a put-on proper English. If one were nosy enough, and could tell these things, the edges weren't quite refined, and it only overlayed what was once a Cockney accent.

"I did bring a bottle of brandy along with me, but they said they'd hold it until your release. Either that poor thing's going to sit and age until it's mellow as a toothless old hound, or you'll have to rescue it from your personal effects once you're out."

He grinned and shook his hand. His fingers, out of the gloves he usually wore, were dirty and smudged still with remnants of makeup. "I'm not?" he asked, reacting with shock. "Well, you're the first person to say anything. Why am I always the last to know?"

He put his hands in his pockets, cocking his head to the side. "Brandy, huh? Haven't had that in a while. Well, when I do get..." here he coughed conspicuously, "'Released' I'll make sure to pick it up."

He spotted the folder on the table, his interest immediately piqued. "And what is that?"

He took a seat once more, and took out the stack of papers, all paperclipped together to separate threads.

"Locked to the Joker and Joker Sympathizers." He raised a brow and cleared his throat, reading back the thread. "This girl here says you're unstable, a menace, an utter waste of resources, while this boy is saying you're being underestimated and that you should be left to the pros. Oh, and here's where they start talking in locked posts, but my apprentice's fiance has given me clearance somehow into seeing every locked post. All very interesting things underneath that. Useful boy, young Mr. Stillman." He tossed the papers towards the man in the fading makeup.

"Reading material. Enjoy."

He tilted his head with a small, secretive smile. "In fact, the whole world's abuzz with your arrival. Makes others of us jealous, makes the demons anxious. Simply put, Joker, you've got the world's attention. What are you going to do with it?"

He tapped a paper which caught his eye, "This young fellow here's been tailing me. A lot of them are stationed in London and New York, and a lot more are moving to less chaotic parts of the world. Should we come to... an accord of sorts, you and I may be in for a very swell time."

"Make trouble," he said simply.

He leaned back in his chair. "Mm. So the truth comes out," he croaked, grinning. As always, he was just as pleased to get down to brass tacks as he was to wind serpentine through small talk. "I don't see why we can't each leave each other alone. This city's my...primary concern. I'm thinking about branching out, you know. Maybe Chicago. I like the people there. But no, I've got no interest in jumping across the pond and muscling in on your bloody business."

He shook his head, "The truth, sir, has always been out," Sweeney leaned back and raised a brow. "and I'll leave this city in your capable hands. However, I would like to let you know that I've given some thought to the LeBeaus and that whole brood. Artan would be such a waste of talent, and if it weren't for him, you wouldn't have that information in front of you now. He's good with computers and tattoos, but not much else, I'm afraid. And there's no doubt a force worthy of godly proportions holing up the rest of his friends, which leaves one last little thorn in your side. One you'd likely enjoy very much."

He didn't look into The Joker's eyes -- in fact, he didn't look into anyone's, it was some sort of habit, a nervous reaction he had for everything and everyone -- but he did look up at him, smiling warmly. "How much do you know about demons? And by that, I don't mean demons like you or I have been said to be, but demons of the quite literal sort?"
