"Dick," Carrie sounded exhausted. "Shh." She buried her face in Dick's shoulder, careful not to brush against his bandage. "I know," she spoke quietly into his costume.
"I know he'll come back. I know he won't even think to apologize. I know he'll expect us to listen to every word he says like it's law." Her voice broke and she paused to collect herself. "I know that there's a part of me that will forgive him, that already does because he's Bruce and that's what I do." There was a bitter edge to her unsteady words.
"I know," she sniffled. "Just like I know I'm done." Her forgiveness could only go so far. She loved Bruce, but she wasn't sure she could go back to the way things used to be. It was almost funny how suddenly things could change.
