"I've lived off of food from the army, a week on that and you're just glad to get something edible."
She closed her eyes a moment, before looking up at him. "I knew you were going to ask that actually, but I'm afraid there's no short answer."
She took a deep breath. "In my world, the planet Earth is also called Earth Realm, full of life and power that none of us could full imagine. It's also one of many other realms, one of which is called Outworld-a dead, forsaken place where the only law is survival at any cost. This realm was ruled by an Emperor called Shao Kahn, cruel, merciless, and powerful in every sense of the word. Thousands of years ago, from my time even, he wanted to conquer and enslave the Earth for himself, since doing so would give him the key to endless power and conquests."
She took a sip of water. "To prevent this, the elder gods made him a deal. He would pit his best warriors against Earth's best fighters in a martial arts tournament by the name of mortal kombat, if Outworld won ten tournaments in a row, he would be able to crossover into Earth unchallenged. Each tournament was to be held on an island of nuetral territory, once every generation."
She eyed him. "I was chosen to compete in the tenth tournament, though I didn't know at the time. I and some of my men where on the chase for a criminal by the name of Kano, who escaped to the boat headed to the island. My team snook on the boat, intending to just arrest him and leave, but didn't happen. We were captured by the tournament master, the sorcerer Shang Tsung. He told me that either I was to compete, or he'd have my men killed-I knew he was lying but I couldn't risk it. So I agreed. Oh, by that time, Outworld had already won nine tournaments in a row. So not only was I fighting for my life and the lives of my men, but my entire planet."
