"How could you say I don't love you anymore?" he asked, stopping right in his tracks. There was a look of pure shock in his eyes. His mouth opened to say something else, then closed back as he swallowed thickly. "I do want to touch you. I--I want us to have a family more than anything." By now, he was fiddling with the hem of his t-shirt and he just felt sick to his stomach when she turned away from him to pack her stuff. Shit. He had one shot to get this right, and he hurried downstairs to the shop where he'd been keeping the ring he'd bought over a week ago.
It took him five minutes tops to get it and come back upstairs; he wasn't about to give her time to get down to the front door before he came back. And he was panting a little from the quick pace he'd had to do this. Damn he missed Extremis. He wasn't used to this crap. "Here..." he panted and walked back into the room. "Last week....out shopping and found this..for you." Now that was ridiculous. He took a moment to catch his breath before he held out his hand. He hadn't even wasted time bringing the box. In his hand was a platinum ring with tiny rubies and diamonds embedded in the band all the way around.
