Who: Monster and Faith
What: Badassery! And sparring.
When: Tonight
Where: Dead-end street in New York

Monster had given Faith the address of a dead-end street in Brooklyn not too far from where he and James had been living. The street was always deserted and in a nasty part of town, so it was unlikely that there would be any witnesses to deal with or cops called if things got particularly rough, and that was the way he liked things.

He was pacing up and down the street, waiting for her to show up. He fingered the switchblade in his pocket, wondering if he'd even need to use it. He'd probably mostly be relying on straight-up hand to hand, and then resort to using the darkness if the fight seemed to be tipping in his favor. But there was no need to pull out his ace right away.

He pulled out a cigarette and lit up, smoking while he waited. He was wearing tight black jeans and a fitted t-shirt, and no one in the world could tell him he didn't look damn good and not be lying. His pale cheeks were flushed, but that was the only indication of his anticipation. He paced slowly from one side of the street to the other, crossing under streetlights, trailing smoke as he went. When he passed into the darkness, the only thing you could see were his eyes and the tip of his cigarette, both glowing red.

Faith could almost hear Emily calling her an idiot in her head. She remembered Solvei's warning loud and clear. It wasn't smart to advertise that you were looking for a fight around here with goddesses and gods running amock. Faith wondered briefly if she was tempting fate but just decided to take it one step at a time, cautiously.

Caution wasn't really a part of her vocabulary, but still curiousity got the better of her and she found herself staking out the address she'd been given. She didn't want to just rush into it, without thinking. That was usually her downfall and this time she decided to be smart and check it out first.

What she found as she looked down from the roof of the buildings was someone who just looked like a guy. She checked to see if he'd brought friends or weapons, but she couldn't see anything.

Finally she made her way down to the street and approached from behind, walking behind buildings.

"Hi." She said, watching him turn around to look at her. Red eyes. Definitely not human. Her hand instantly went to the stake she had stowed away in her waistband. "What the fuck are you?" She asked with a sneer.

"The man of your dreams, sugar. Or can't you tell?"

He took a final drag from his cigarette, letting the smoke drift gently from his mouth before tossing the butt into the gutter with a flick of his wrist. He surveyed her up and down. Well, she was hot. She definitely had that going for her. Her hotness was lessened, however, by the sharp thing he could see on her belt. His night vision was quite good, and he looked a little closer. Wait, was that a stake? Seriously? "Hands off the pointy thing. I'm not exactly Dracula."

Faith snorted when he referred to himself as the man of her dreams. That's what they all said, but really there was no man of Faith's dreams. They were all the same in her book. Love 'em and leave 'em.

"You'd be surprised how many things this'll kill." She said dryly, keeping her eyes locked on him.

"I guess I would," he said, head cocked to one side. His voice was low and hoarse, his tone casual for the moment. He pulled out his knife and flicked it open, studying the edge. "Knives kill most everything too," he noted. "Guess we'll have to see whose pointy bit gets into who first. I'll tell you right now, though, if we can avoid all this and just talk it out, I'd happily take you to a hotel someplace and stake you until dawn and beyond."

Vampire hunter innuendo. Nice.

She chuckled a little bit when he suggested going to the hotel room instead. It was like something a certain bastard would have said to her at one point, and she suddenly missed him a little bit, in spite of herself.

"That's a teeny knife." She finally said. "Not exactly inspiring confidence in your other.... weapons." She snickered again at her own joke.

Stepping out of the shadows a little bit she looked a little bit closer at him. He was attractive, in a goth sort of way, not her usual type but she didn't judge. Not that it mattered. Because he wasn't human anyway, and fucking demons is another slayers forte.

"The shorter the knife, the more personal the injury," he shot back sweetly. "And I wouldn't judge a book by its cover. I can guarantee the best fuck you've ever had if you make it out of this alive. But, you know. It's kind of unlikely."

"Right. The motion of the ocean, blah blah blah. I've heard it all before." Faith went on before she stopped when he said it was unlikely she would survive the fight. How often had she heard that before? How bad could this goth boy really be? She wasn't sure.

"You gonna answer my question?" She stopped right in front of him, her tone less playful and more angry now. "What the fuck are you anyway?"

He tossed the knife from one hand to the other. "Search me, sugar. Nobody seems to be able to give me a good solid answer on that one. Not a Dracula, that's for sure. I used to just be a boy. The kid still is, but that's beside the point."

He folded the knife up again and placed it in his pocket. It only took a second's focus to get the darkness to flare up around him, and he ran a hand through his hair as he did so, like nothing had happened. The stuff flickered at the edges of his figure, black and shimmering like heat waves on asphalt. "I guess I'm just something else."

Without another word she popped him hard in the mouth with her fist and watched as he staggered back slightly with a smirk on her face.

"Really? Cause you bleed just like everything else I've ever killed." She gave him her best smarmy look.

Nice. Girl could sure throw a punch. The punch split his lip, and blood trailed down his chin. He caught his balance and licked it away with relish. Then he lashed out with the darkness. A long tendril snaked out, hopefully to impale her. "Yeah? Let's see how you bleed."

"Whoah!" Faith breathed out, as she narrowly dodged a strange sinewy almost nothing. Somehow she knew it was a part of him, this demon who's name she didn't even know. It may walk like a man and talk like a man, but it didn't mean it was one.

"Neat trick but you're gonna have to do better than that if you wanna..." She cut herself off, having to dodge him again. "Jesus!" She exclaimed, before ducking through another one and kicking him hard in the stomach, sending him into the wall.

Suddenly she decided she was gonna stab him with his own knife tonight.

She was way faster than she should have been, and it totally pissed him off. Nobody should be able to move that fast, get out of the way in time to kick him with all the strength of a heavyweight.

However, he was, at the same time, almost respectful. Girl could fuckin' move.

He hit the wall hard, but tucked his head so that it didn't connect. The last thing he needed was to hit anything hard enough that the kid got out--he'd be doomed for sure. Nope, the moral of the day was to stay on his feet and move faster than freak girl. No easy feat, even with his distinct advantages.

He pushed off the wall and lashed out again. This time, a tendril shot out along the ground, seeking her out like a creeper vine. Alright. Aiming high hadn't worked. Time to aim low and see if she could still dance out of the way.
